Arachnoiditis Ossificans Mimicking Spinal Intradural Extramedullary Tumor: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Arachnoiditis ossificans is an intradural extramedullary lesion resulting from an unusual chronic meningeal inflammatory process and it is thought to be the sequela of end-stage adhesive arachnoiditis secondary to surgery, trauma, arachnoid hemorrhage, meningeal irritation, myelography (particularly oil-based contrast agents), and spinal anesthesia. The spinal arachnoiditis ossificans may be silent or cause a variety of symptoms depending on its location and uncommonly happen to cause spinal cord compression. Very little attention has been paid to the management and outcome of this rare condition in the neurosurgical reem. We report the case of a 45 years old man admitted with L1 - L2 arachnoiditis ossificans revealed by polyradiculopathy on incomplete cauda equina syndrome mimicking spinal canal tumors. The patient underwent surgery and we performed the laminectomy of L1 - L2, total resection of the lesion, followed by a complete remission of the hemiparesis after three months of kinesitherapy nursing.

Brain Metastasis of Uterine Leiomyosarcoma: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

The metastases of uterine leiomyosarcoma to the brain are exceptional and such cases are seldomly reported in the literature. The diagnosis is based on CT and brains MRI findings, in association with a gynecological history of cancer. Their management still stays without guidelines, and the surgical total resection is known to be the only way to influence positively the prognosis and save patient lives. We report a rare case of a 46 years old woman who underwent a hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy 5 years earlier and presented with the right hemiparesis and whose CT scan and MRI of the brain showed cerebral lesions related to brain location of uterine leiomyosarcoma. The patient underwent surgery for gross total tumor resection, followed by adjuvant radiotherapy, and was doing well after surgery. Three months later she was admitted for recurrences and died after two months of palliative care.

The nasopharyngeal swab for COVID-19 testing is generally considered safe;however, it is primarily performed by staff that may not completely understand the anatomy of the nasal cavity and nasopharynx. We report the treatment of a 48-year-old man who developed unilateral left rhinorrhea after a nasopharyngeal swab sample. It is aimed to draw attention to this complication that can be prevented with the appropriate technique during nasopharyngeal swab sampling.

In this paper we introduce the homogeneous Besov type spaces ∧p,q^γ（K） on the dual of Laguerre hypergroup K and we establish some new harmonic analysis results. We give some character- izations of these spaces using equivalent seminorms. Also we study the non-homogeneous Besov type spaces ∧p,q^γ（K）. We give some properties of these spaces and embeddings results with respect to their parameters p, q and γ.

Numerical predictions of three-dimensional flow and heat transfer are performed for a two-pass square channel with 45° staggered ribs in non-orthogonally mode-rotation using the second moment closure model. At Reynolds number of 25,000, the rotation numbers studied were 0,0.24, 0.35 and 1.00. The density ratios were 0.13, 0.23 and 0.50. The results show that at high buoyancy parameter and high rotation number with a low density ratio, the flow in the first passage is governed by the secondary flow induced by the rotation whereas the secondary flow induced by the skewed ribs was almost distorted. As a result the heat transfer rate is enhanced on both co-trailing and co-leading sides compared to low and medium rotation number. In contrast, for the second passage, the rotation slightly reduces the heat transfer rate on co-leading side at high rotation number with a low density ratio and degrades it significantly on both co-trailing and co-leading sides at high buoyancy parameter compared to the stationary, low and medium rotation numbers. The numerical results are in fair agreement with available experimental data in the bend region and the second passage, while in the first passage were overestimated at low and medium rotation numbers.

An adaptive mesh finite element model has been developed to predict the crack propagation direction as well as to calculate the stress intensity factors （SIFs）, under linear-elastic assumption for mixed mode loading application. The finite element mesh is generated using the advancing front method. In order to suit the requirements of the fracture analysis, the generation of the background mesh and the construction of singular elements have been added to the developed program. The adaptive remeshing process is carried out based on the posteriori stress error norm scheme to obtain an optimal mesh. Previous works of the authors have proposed techniques for adaptive mesh generation of 2D cracked models. Facilitated by the singular elements, the displacement extrapolation technique is employed to calculate the SIK The fracture is modeled by the splitting node approach and the trajectory follows the successive linear extensions of each crack increment. The SlFs values for two different case studies were estimated and validated by direct comparisons with other researchers work.

In this paper,we present a three dimensional numerical investigation of heat transfer in a parabolic trough collector receiver with longitudinal fins using different kinds of nanofluid,with an operational temperature of 573 K and nanoparticle concentration of 1% in *** outer surface of the absorber receives a non-uniform heat flux,which is obtained by using the Monte Carlo ray tracing *** numerical results are contrasted with empirical results available in the open literature.A significant improvement of heat transfer is derived when the Reynolds number varies in the range 2.57×104≤ Re≤ 2.57×105,the tube-side Nusselt number increases from 1.3 to 1.8 times,also the metallic nanoparticles improve heat transfer greatly than other nanoparticles,combining both mechanisms provides better heat transfer and higher thermo-hydraulic performance.

Antihydatic and immunomodulatory effects of Algerian propolis ethanolic extract:In vitro and in vivo study

Objective: To evaluate the in vitro and in vivo effect of the Algerian propolis ethanolic extract(EEP) against Echinococcus granulosus(E. granulosus) infection. Methods: In vitro scolicidal activity of EEP was investigated on the protoscolices of hydatid cyst. This in vitro study was conducted by using an in vivo assay. BALB/c mice were inoculated with E. granulosus and treated with propolis for three months. Hydatid cysts development was assessed. Nitric oxide(NO), tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF-α) production and inducible NO synthase, NF-κB, and TNF-α spleen expression were estimated by Griess method and immunofluorescence ***: Our study revealed that EEP has a high scolicidal activity against E. granulosus. Oral administration of EEP decreased TNF-α, NF-κB and inducible NO synthase expression in the spleen tissues in the CE+EEP group, in comparison with the CE group. Concomitantly, EEP treatment caused an important systemic decrease in NO and TNF-α levels. These findings are associated with the reduction of CE development. Conclusions: This is the first report demonstrating with interest the antihydatic and immunomodulatory effects of the Algerian EEP, suggesting its therapeutic potential for the hydatid disease treatment.
