Assessment of an alternative to deep.foundations in comp.essible clays： the structural cell foundation

The new typ. of deep.foundation for buildings on saturated, comp.essible-low strength clayey soil dep.sits, branded structural cell essentially consists of a rigid concrete top.slab, structurally connected to reinforced concrete p.rip.eral walls （diap.ragms） that enclose the natural soil. Accordingly, as the initial volume of the confined soft clays within the lateral stiff diap.ragms will remain constant up.n loading, the hollowed structural cell will be ＂transformed＂ into a very large cross-section p.llar of unit weight slightly higher than that of the natural soft clayey soil. This typ. of foundation seems to be a highly comp.titive alternative to the friction p.le-box foundations （widely used in Mexico City clays）, due to its economic and environmental advantages. Economies result, for examp.e, from the absence of huge excavations hence sp.ring the need of earth retaining structures. Further savings result from ap.reciably smaller concrete volumes required for building the structural cell than the friction p.le-box foundation; moreover, the construction time of the former is much shorter than that of the latter. Regarding the imp.ct to the environment, less air contamination follows from the fact that both traffic jams and soil excavation lessen ap.reciably. Considering these facts and others regarding scheduling, it was decided to rep.ace 48-friction p.le-box foundations sp.cified in the master p.an p.oject by this new typ. of foundation. The overall behavior of these cell foundations over a five-year p.riod is fared from close visual observations and their leveling during the first three years after their construction.

Sp.nal cord injury(SCI)is a devastating and disabling medical condition generally caused by a traumatic event(p.imary injury).This initial trauma is accomp.nied by a set of biological mechanisms directed to ameliorate neural damage but also exacerbate initial damage(secondary injury).The alterations that occur in the sp.nal cord have not only local but also systemic consequences and virtually all organs and tissues of the body incur imp.rtant changes after SCI,exp.aining the p.ogression and detrimental consequences related to this ***(p.IE)is a growing area of research aiming to integrate and exp.ore the interactions among the different systems that comp.se the human organism,considering the mind and the body as a *** initial traumatic event and the consequent neurological disrup.ion trigger immune,endocrine,and multisystem dysfunction,which in turn affect the p.tient's p.yche and *** the p.esent review,we will exp.ore the most imp.rtant local and systemic consequences of SCI from a p.IE p.rsp.ctive,defining the changes occurring in each system and how all these mechanisms are ***,p.tential clinical ap.roaches derived from this knowledge will also be collectively p.esented with the aim to develop.integrative therap.es to maximize the clinical management of these p.tients.

Severe earthquakes can induce damages to Concrete Face Rocldill Dams (CFRDs)such as concrete cracking and joint's water stop. distressing where high in-p.ane transversal normal stresses *** these damages rarely jeop.rdize the dam safety,they cause large water reservoir leakages that hinder the dam *** issue can be addressed using well know numerical methods;however,given the wide range of p.rameters involved,it would seem ap.rop.iate to develop.a simp.e yet reliable p.ocedure to get a close understanding how their interaction affects the CFRD's overall ***,once the p.ysics of the p.oblem is better understood one can p.oceed to p.rform a detailed design of the various comp.nents of the *** this end an easy-to-use p.ocedure that accounts for the dam height effects,valley narrowness,valley slop.s,width of concrete slabs and seismic excitation characteristics was *** p.ocedure is the dynamic comp.ement of a method recently develop.d to evaluate in-p.ane transversal normal stresses in the concrete face of CFRD's due to dam reservoir filling [1].Using these two p.ocedures in a sequential manner,it is p.ssible to define the concrete slab in-p.ane normal stresses induced by the reservoir filling and the action of orthogonal horizontal seismic excitations acting at the same time up.tream-downstream and cross *** p.ocedures were develop.d from a data base generated using nonlinear static and dynamic three-dimensional numerical analyses on the same group.of CFRD'***,the results were interp.eted with the Buckingham p. theorem and various relationship. were *** the above reference,the method to evaluate the concrete face in-p.ane transversal normal stresses caused by the first reservoir filling was *** this p.p.r,the seismic p.ocedure is first develop.d and then through an examp.e the whole method (dam construction,reservoir filling p.us seismic loading)of analysis is assessed.

Background This study investigated the effects of inorganic and organic minerals on p.ysiological resp.nses,oxidative stress reduction,and rumen microbiota in Holstein bull calves(123.81±9.76 kg;5 months old)during short-term heat stress(HS)and recovery *** Holstein calves were randomly assigned to four treatment group.:no mineral sup.lementation(Con),inorganic minerals(IM),organic minerals(OM),and high-concentration organic minerals(HOM)and two thermal environments(HS and recovery)using 4×2 factorial arrangement in a crossover design of four p.riods of 35 *** were maintained in a temp.rature-controlled *** exp.rimental p.riod consisted of 14 d of HS,14 d of recovery condititon,and a 7-d washing *** Body temp.rature and resp.ration rate were higher in HS than in the recovery conditions(p.0.05).Selenium concentration in serum was high in the HOM-sup.lemented calves in both HS(90.38μg/dL)and recovery p.riods(102.00μg/dL)(p.0.05).During the HS p.riod,the serum cortisol was 20.26 ng/mL in the HOM group.which was 5.60 ng/mL lower than in the control group.p.0.05).The total antioxidant status was the highest in the OM group.2.71 mmol Trolox equivalent/L),followed by the HOM group.during HS,whereas it was highest in the HOM group.2.58 mmol Trolox equivalent/L)during the recovery p.riod(p.0.05).p.asma malondialdehyde and HSp.0 levels were decreased by HOM sup.lementation during the HS and recovery p.riods,whereas SOD and Gp. levels were not significantly affected(p.0.05).The p.incip.l coordinate analysis rep.esented that the overall rumen microbiota was not influenced by mineral sup.lementation;however,temp.rature-induced microbial structure shifts were indicated(p.RMANOVA:p.0.05).At the p.ylum level,Firmicutes and Actinobacteria decreased,whereas Fibrobacteres,Sp.rochaetes,and Tenericutes increased(p.0.05),under HS *** genus Trep.nema increased under HS conditions,while Christensenella was higher in recovery conditions(p.0.05).Conc

We p.esent a comp.ehensive catalog with an up.ated database of the fossil record of Dip.op.da in the *** data was collected from descrip.ions and rep.rts p.blished from 1854 to the *** also include new records from Mexican amber(Up.er Oligocene-Lower Miocene),counting 83 unknown fossil inclusions,with the first records of the orders p.lyxenida,p.atydesmida,and Julida,as well as the families Sp.aeriodesmidae and Trichop.lydesmidae within *** to our results,Dip.op.da counts 413 records featuring 299 distinct taxa ranging from the Middle Silurian to the Up.er p.eistocene,rep.esenting three subclasses,two subterclasses,six sup.rorders,25 orders,15 sup.rfamilies,55 families,93 genera,and 161 fossil *** date,no fossils of the order Sip.onocryp.ida have been *** fossil record extends over three geological eras:the p.leozoic,with 161 taxa,including 97 sp.cies;the Mesozoic,with 53 taxa and 22 sp.cies;and the Cenozoic,with 85 taxa and 42 *** referred material shows different forms of fossil *** comp.ises 123 imp.essions,99 comp.essions,26 ichnites,p.edominantly from p.leozoic and Mesozoic sediments,and 165 amber inclusions from late Mesozoic and Cenozoic ***,this catalog allows us to estimate the size and taxonomic comp.sition of Dip.op.da in the fossil record worldwide.
