Mesenteric Adenitis as a Differential Appendicitis Diagnosis: Case Report

Mesenteric adenitis consists of an important differential diagnosis of potentially serious diseases such as acute appendicitis, since they manifest themselves with a similar clinical picture. Case report: A 17-year-old male patient presented with periumbilical abdominal pain for 2 days, of abrupt onset and moderate intensity, who gave away with a common analgesic, which progressed to the right iliac fossa (RIF) and increased of intensity. He also reported liquid diarrhea, with several episodes a day, without mucus and/or blood, 38°C fever, anorexia and vomiting. He was hospitalized for investigating a possible diagnostic of Acute Appendicitis. In the exams, it was considered mesenteric adenitis, and antibiotic therapy was prescribed. the patient had complete improvement at the end of treatment. Conclusions: Given its importance as a differential diagnosis of numerous pathologies, as well as controversial before the therapeutic and diagnostic conduct, it is essential to report these cases in order to elucidate the specificities of this disease.

Objective: to demonstrate that acupuncture has an instant effect in equilibrating the imbalanced electrical conductivity of Yuan-Source acupoints after intervention on the Luo-Connecting acupoint(one-side) of the same ***: the experiment was designed as a randomized blinded control trial, with 56 volunteers. Reactive Electrical Permeable Points(REPP-mostly Yuan points) were measured in terms of electrical conductivity. Patients with a split-meridian(difference between left and right measurement) were randomly included in the control or experimental group. After five minutes of needle insertion in a Luo acupoint, the needle was removed and REPP were re-measured twice within a five minutes ***: From the 56 volunteers, 32 had a valid Split-Meridian Difference(SMD > 20 μA) and were included in the study. the results indicate that after the third measurement(15 minutes-M3), 100% of the experimental group had SMD th a SMD = 0 μA. In contrast, for the control group, 92% remained with a SMD >20 μA, at M3, when compared with the initial measurement(M1). Results obtained between the experimental and control group are significantly different(pthe present exploratory work indicates that there is evidence of instant body response to acupuncture that can be detected by changes in the electro-conductivity of specific acupoints.

Many experimental studies have contributed to the development of the theory of trophic chains in lacustrine habitats. they have revealed the important role played by fish, a subject that has been mostly ignored by limnological studies for the past few decades. Most of these studies were developed in Europe and in the United States. the general applicability of this theory has not yet been tested in subtropical and tropical habitats. In spite of controversies, the bottom-up: top-down trophic cascade hypotheses are the most adopted conceptual models. In this context, we examined if these hypotheses may be corroborated by data from the subtropical Itaipu Reservoir. A negative effect was verified between water transparency and total suspended solids. the detritivorous fish exerted a controlling effect on chlorophyll-a concentrations. Bottom-up effects were detected in four trophic levels, and top-down was detected in just one trophic level. the limnological variates influenced the chlorophyll-a concentration, which indicated that the lntKN plus the effect of the quarter and the reservoir zone (and their interaction) were important.

Many studies have reported on the different types of placenta in different species, but accessory or paraplacental structures are mentioned only in species that have such a nutrient-exchanging mechanism. Hystricomorph rodents possess a subplacenta, swine and equines have the placental areola, equines have the chorionic girdle, and carnivores have hemophagous organs that are equivalent to the placental hematoma in ruminants. these accessory structures are specialized tissues for specific nutrient exchanges in different species, and they are adaptive modifications exhibited by domestic and wild species to remedy the nutritional deficiencies that are related to permeability of the main placenta to important nutrients for the growth and development of the fetus during the gestation.

We report a case of groove pancreatitis in which clinical and endoscopic findings improved with conservative treatment. Most authors suggest more aggressive management, such as Whipple＇s surgery because of its similar findings to pancreatic carcinoma. Groove pancreatitis is a rare condition that requires more studies to establish diagnostic criteria to better classify the disease＇s stage and direct appropriated therapy for the patient, improving morbidity and survival of this disease.

Background: Oral cancer presents a heterogeneous geographic incidence. Annually, more than 275,000 new cases are diagnosed worldwide. In spite of the easy accessibility of oral cavity during physical examination, most malignancies are not diagnosed until late stages of disease. Methods: Oral health promotion was our main objective, risk factors were identified and oral cavity self-examination was promoted. the population considered (n = 1117) was divided in two main age groups—a youngest (individuals under 25 years old) mostly targeted for oral cancer awareness and oral cavity self examination promotion, and an older group having accumulated potential risk exposure. Results: the results obtained revealed smoking habits and fruits-vegetables consumption deficit as the highest risks factors found. Considering a Risk Factor Exposure Index analysis, individuals with secondary level of instruction and living in sub-urban areas assumed the highest risk exposure. Alcohol consumption had also contributed as a significant risk exposure. Conclusions: Some of these risk factors work as biological reward of quality of life deficit. A wide comprehension of the problem requires a multidisciplinary approach necessarily involving Health and Social Sciences in order to target the core of oral cancer health promotion. An effective epidemiological strategy must thus support three major aspects: population knowledge, sensitization and visual screening.

Purpose:Non-prosthetic peri-implant fractures are challenging *** factors must be care-fully evaluated for an adequate therapeutic strategy,such as the state of bone healing,the type of implant,the time and performed personnel of previous surgery,and the stability of *** aim of this study is to propose a rationale for the ***:the peri-implant femoral fractures(PIFFs)system,a therapeutic algorithm was developed for the management of all patients presenting a subtype A PIFF,based on the type of the original implant(***-medulllary),implant length and fracture *** adequacy and reliability of the proposed algorithm and the fracture healing process were assessed at the last clinical follow-up using the Parker mobility score and radiological assessment,*** addition,all complications were *** variables were expressed as mean and standard deviation,or median and range according to their *** variables were expressed as frequency and ***:this is a retrospective case series of 33 PIFFs,and the mean post-operative Parker mobility score was(5.60±2.54)*** patients(15.1%)achieved complete mobility without aids(9 points)and 1(3.0%)patient was not able to *** other patients(6.1%)were non-ambulatory prior to *** mean follow-up was(21.51±9.12)months(range 6-48 months).there were 7(21.2%)complications equally distributed between patients managed either with nailing or *** were no cases of nonunion or mechanical failure of the original ***:the proposed treatment algorithm shows adequate,reliable and straightforward to assist the orthopaedic trauma surgeon on the difficult decision-making process regarding the management of PIFF occurring in previously healed *** addition,it may become a useful tool to optimize the use of the classification,thus potentially improving the outcomes and minimizing complications.
