Epidemiology of Fingertip Injuries at South Central Hospital Petróleos Mexicanos “Pemex” with a Review of the Literature

Background: The hand is an essential component for performing our daily tasks;as a result, injuries to the fingertip are frequently seen. Accurate evaluation and treatment of fingertip injuries are essential to avoiding long-term disability, job loss and psychological issues. no matter the injury classification system, maintaining finger length, regaining sensation, and improving appearance are the three main objectives of treatment. The objective of this research was to outline the epidemiology of fingertip injuries treated between 2021 and 2022 at a highly specialized referral hospital in Mexico City. Methodology: This investigation is cross-sectional, retrospective, and observational. From January 2021 to December 2022, 60 patients with a diagnosis of fingertip injury from the South Central Hospital “Pemex” were included. The descriptive statistical analysis was performed using SPSS29. Results: 60 patients were included, 27 (45%) were women and 33 (55%) were men. Allen’s classification was able to classify only 19 patients, of which 18 (94.7%) had a type 1 classification and one (5.26%) had a type 2 classification. 10% of patients experienced complications, which included 2 patients with surgical site infections (3.3%), 3 patients with persistent pain (5%), and 1 patient (1.6%) with graft rejection. Conclusions: There are currently insufficient epidemiological data on hand and wrist injuries and its effects on labor in Mexico. Fingertip injuries require particular care in order to prevent complications and long-term damage. The creation of national registries could help with the creation of reference manuals for the care of hand and wrist injuries in our nation.

Green ionic metal-organic frameworks as nanocatalysts for CO_(2)fixation

Co,ni,and Zn iso-reticular coordination polymers of 2,5-dihydroxyterphthalic acid(H_(2)dot)can be rapidly obtained under room temperature and aqueous conditions using either sodium or ammonium hydroxide as the bases to deprotonate the *** use of metal bromides and tetrabutylammonium hydroxide(TBAOH)as the base allows the green synthesis of ionic metal-organic frameworks(MOFs),characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transform infrared(FTIR),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),thermo gravimetric analysis(TGA),H-nuclear magnetic resonance(nMR),elemental analysis,and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),and employed in the pressure,solvent,and additive-free CO_(2)fixation to epoxides by its cycloaddition to epichlorohydrin,exhibiting a cooperative behavior between the MOF and the ionic liquid formed within the framework,achieving TOns of the confined tetrabutylammonium bromide(TBABr)up to 700.

Colorecal cancer(CRC)is one of the main causes of cancer-related mortality in the deweloped world despite recent developments in detection and treatment Several epidemiologial studis indicate that metformin,a widdy prescribed antidiabetic drug,exerts a protective effect on different cancers incuding ***,a recent double blind placebo controlled,randomized trial showed that metformin significantly decreased colorectal adenoma *** exploring the medhanism of action of metformin in cells derived from different types of ancers reported many efects including rapiratory chain complex 1 inhibition,Akt phosphorylation inhibition,ATP depltion,PKA activation and Wnt signaling ***,many of these results were obtained employing metformin at concentrations several fold higher than those achieved in target tissuas in diabetic patients receiving therapeutic recommended doses of *** contrast,recent studies obtained with metformin at concentrations compatible with those detected in human intestins revealed that metformin dicit responses that targetβ-catenin,PI3KAkt,E-adherin,pl20-catenin and focal adhesion kinase which are key molecules and signaling pathways associated to colorectal cancar *** brief review revisit several know aspects as well as nowd ones on the effects of metformin on cancer cells.

Because of the presence of modified warp factors in metric tensors,we use deformed AdS5 spaces to apply the AdS/CFT correspondence to calculate the spectra for even and odd glueballs,scalar and vector mesons,and baryons with different *** the glueball cases,we derive their Regge trajectories and compare them with those related to the pomeron and the *** the scalar and vector mesons,as well as baryons,the determined masses are compatible with the *** particular,for these hadrons we found Regge trajectories compatible with another holographic approach as well as with the hadronic spectroscopy,which present an universal Regge slope of approximately 1.1 GeV^2.

Clinical relevance of stem cells in lung cancer

Lung cancer is the major cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide,it has one of the lowest 5-year survival rate,mainly because it is diagnosed in the late stage of the *** cancer is classified into two groups,small cell lung cancer(SCLC)and non-SCLC(nSCLC).In turn,nSCLC is categorized into three distinct cell subtypes:Adenocarcinoma,squamous cell carcinoma,and large cell *** is the most common lung cancer,accounting for 85%of all lung *** for lung cancer is linked to the cell type and stage of the disease,involving chemotherapy,radiation therapy,and *** improvements in therapeutic treatments,lung cancer patients show high rates of recurrence,metastasis,and resistance to *** stem cells(SCs)are undifferentiated cells capable of self-renewal and proliferation,are resistant to chemotherapy and radiotherapy and,due to their properties,could be involved in the development and progression of lung *** presence of SCs in the lung tissue could be the reason why lung cancer is difficult to *** identification of lung cancer stem cells biomarkers is of interest for precision medicine using new therapeutic agents directed against these cell *** this review,we present the current knowledge on lung SCs and discuss their functional role in the initiation and progression of lung cancer,as well as their role in tumor resistance to chemotherapy.

Epidermal stem cells and skin tissue engineering in hair follicle regeneration

The reconstitution of a fully organized and functional hair follicle from dissociated cells propagated under defined tissue culture conditions is a challenge stillpending in tissue engineering. The loss of hair follicles caused by injuries or pathologies such as alopecia not only affects the patients' psychological well-being, but also endangers certain inherent functions of the skin. It is then of great interest to find different strategies aiming to regenerate or neogenerate the hair follicle under conditions proper of an adult individual. Based upon current knowledge on the epithelial and dermal cells and their interactions during the embryonic hair generation and adult hair cycling, many researchers have tried to obtain mature hair follicles using different strategies and approaches depending on the causes of hair loss. This review summarizes current advances in the different experimental strategies to regenerate or neogenerate hair follicles, with emphasis on those involving neogenesis of hair follicles in adult individuals using isolated cells and tissue engineering. Most of these experiments were performed using rodent cells, particularly from embryonic or newborn origin. However, no successful strategy to generate human hair follicles from adult cells has yet been reported. This review identifies several issues that should be considered to achieve this objective. Perhaps the most important challenge is to provide threedimensional culture conditions mimicking the structure of living tissue. Improving culture conditions that allow the expansion of specific cells while protecting their inductive properties, as well as methods for selecting populations of epithelial stem cells, should give us the necessary tools to overcome the difficulties that constrain human hair follicle neogenesis. Soil organic carbon storage in forest restoration models and environmental conditions

The scale of forest and landscape restoration is expected to increase during the Un Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and its contribution to the provision of critical ecosystem services to *** models of forest restoration may improve ecosystem services,including soil organic carbon(SOC)storage.A review was carried out to access:(1)the variability of SOC storage between worldwide forest restoration models and,(2)the effects of climate,soil class,soil texture,and vegetation type on SOC *** reviewed 119 primary studies with information on SOC and soil texture for different forest restoration *** restoration models were grouped into four categories:natural regeneration,monocultures,agroforestry,and mixed *** data was extracted from these four restoration models,other land uses(cropland,bare land,grassland,and natural forest),climate regimes,and soil *** SOC storage in the forest restoration models and other land uses at a global scale ranged between 0.1 to 514 Mg ha^(-1).The overall mean value for SOC storage was higher for natural regeneration(112 Mg ha^(-1)),followed by agroforestry(74 Mg ha^(-1)),mixed forest(73 Mg ha^(-1)),and monocultures(68 Mg ha^(-1)).However,the average SOC storage was similar among the four restoration models in the moist warm climate *** SOC storage mean value in the moist cool zone was 23%higher than the dry cool zone(81 and 62 Mg ha^(-1),respectively),and 50%higher for the moist warm zone when compared to the dry warm climatic zone(74 and 38 Mg ha^(-1),respectively).The SOC storage of the restoration models was positively related to soil depth(0.59;pntent(0.29;pnd stand age(0.17;pn values of SOC storage were 26,66,and 139 Mg ha^(-1) at zero-10,zero-30,and zero-100 cm depths,*** addition,sandy soils showed smaller mean values of SOC storage than medium to clay soils,especially in deeper soil ***,SOC storage was positively re

In this work,the impact of the doping process on the photoluminescence emission of CaWO_(4) as a function of the concentration of Eu^(3+) cation(0.01 mol%,0.02 mol%,0.04 mol%,0.06 mol%,0.08 mol%,and 0.10 mol%) is discussed in ***_(1-x)WO~4:xEu^(3+) samples were successfully synthesized by a simple coprecipitation method followed by microwave *** blue shift in the absorption edge confirms the quantum confinement effect and the band gap energy covers the range from 3.91 to 4.18 eV,as the amount of Eu^(3+) cations *** experimental results are sustained by first-principles calculations,at the density functional theory level,to decipher the geometry and electronic properties,thereby enabling a more accurate and direct comparison between theory and experiment for the Ca_(1-x)WO_(4):xEu^(3+) structure.

Contrasting climate drivers of seasonal growth in western vs. eastern Mexican mountain conifer forests

Hydroclimate affects the radial growth responses of trees, but the drivers of their spatial and population variability are not sufficiently understood. We addressed this issue by sampling several conifer populations located at the same latitude, but at different longitude and elevation in western(W) and eastern(E) Mexican regions. We used dendroecology to disentangle how earlywood width(EW), latewood width(LW) and adjusted LW(LWadj),i.e. the residuals after removing EW influences on LW, responded to climate variables(temperature and precipitation), climate indices(Southern Oscillation Index, SOI, nino 3.4, Pacific Decadal Oscillation, PDO) and a drought index(Standardised Precipitation-Evapotranspiration Index, SPEI). The W species(Pinus herrerae martinez, Pinus durangensis martinez, Abies durangensis martínez and Cupressus lusitanica Mill.) showed lower growth rates than the E species(Pinus hartwegii Lindl., Picea mexicana martinez, Pseudotsuga menziesii(Mirb.) Franco and Abies vejari martinez). Growth in W benefits mostly from high precipitation in the prior winter and current spring and it is limited by high temperatures in spring, whereas growth in the E showed similar but weaker ***, positive(negative) correlations were found in radial growth with the nino 3.4(SOI) and the PDO from the prior to current autumns, which were again stronger in absolute terms in the W than in the E regions,excepting SOI in summer. In the W, P. durangensis and C. lusitanica were the least and most responsive species to spring drought, respectively;whilst P. menziesii and A. vejari were very responsive to spring drought compared to P. hartwegii in the E. Our results suggest greater responsiveness to hydroclimate and atmospheric patterns in the W than in the E region.
