Lithium-Metal Free Sulfur Battery Based on Waste Biomass Anode and Nano-Sized Li2S Cathode

The realization of a stable lithium-metal free（LiMF） sulfur battery based on amorphous carbon anode and lithium sulfide（Li2S） cathode is here *** particular,a biomass waste originating full-cell combining a carbonized brewer's spent grain（CBSG） biochar anode with a Li2S-graphene composite cathode（Li2S70Gr30） is *** design is particularly attractive for applying a cost-effective,high performance,environment friendly,and safe anode material,as an alternative to standard graphite and metallic lithium in emerging battery *** anodic and cathodic materials are characterized in terms of structure,morphology and composition through Xray diffraction,scanning and transmission electron microscopy,X-ray photoelectron and Raman ***,an electrochemical characterization comprising galvanostatic cycling,rate capability and cyclic voltammetry tests were carried out both in half-cell and full-cell *** systematic investigation reveals that unlike graphite,the biochar electrode displays good compatibility with the electrolyte typically employed in sulfur *** CBSG/Li2S70Gr30 full-cell demonstrates an initial charge and discharge capacities of 726 and 537 mAh g-1,respectively,at 0.05C with a coulombic efficiency of 74%.Moreover,it discloses a reversible capacity of 330 mAh g-1（0.1 C） after over 300 *** on these achievements,the CBSG/Li2S70Gr30 battery system can be considered as a promising energy storage solution for electric vehicles（EVs）,especially when taking into account its easy scalability to an industrial level.

Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in the *** is man-datory to treat patients with colorectal *** colorectal cancer be treated in laparoscopy?Scientific literature has validated the oncological quality of laparo-scopic approach for the treatment of patients with colorectal *** non-inferiority trials with good remote control have answered positively to this long-debated *** as 1994,first publications demonstrated technical feasibility and compliance with oncological imperatives and,as far as short-term outcomes are concerned,there is no difference in terms of mortality and post-operative morbidity between open and minimally invasive surgical approaches,but only longer operating times at the beginning of the ***,from 2007 onwards,long-term results were published that demonstrated the ab-sence of a significant difference regarding overall survival,disease-free survival,quality of life,local and distant recurrence rates between open and minimally in-vasive *** this editorial,we aim to summarize the clinical and technical aspects which,even today,make the use of open surgery relevant and necessary in the treatment of patients with colorectal cancer.

How to identify early complications in patients undergoing distal gastrectomy?

In this editorial we comment on the article by Zhang et al published in a recent issue of the World Journal of Gastrointestinal *** with appropriate lymph node dissection is still standard curative treatment in locally advanced gastric *** studies point out that gastric cancer surgery is a complex procedure that leads to a high risk of morbidity and *** factors can contribute to the onset of complications with consequent effects on prognosis and increased *** complications can be divided in complications related to anastomosis,to motility and to surgical site *** study presented by Zhang B et al represent an interesting analysis on the possibility to prevent postoperative *** study was performed on 131 patients with distal gastric cancer who underwent gastrectomy with D2 lymph node *** these patients,16%developed early postoperative *** univariate analysis showed that prealbumin level,hypertension,diabetes,history of abdominal surgery,R0 resection,and blood transfusion were factors influencing early postoperative complications after distal ***,the inclusion of the above significant variables in the logistic regression analysis revealed that hypertension,diabetes,a history of abdominal surgery,and blood transfusion were independent predictors of postoperative *** conclusion,preoperative and intraoperative factors can be used to establish an early postoperative nomogram *** results of the study presented by Zhang et al suggest that the prediction model can be used to guide the detection of postoperative complications and has clinical reference value.

Dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, working memory and episodic memory processes: insight through transcranial magnetic stimulation techniques

The ability to recall and recognize facts we experienced in the past is based on a complex mechanism in which several cerebral regions are implicated. Neuroimaging and lesion studies agree in identifying the frontal lobe as a crucial structure for memory processes, and in particular for working memory and episodic memory and their relationships. Furthermore, with the introduction of transcranial magnetic stimulation （TMS） a new way was proposed to investigate the relationships between brain correlates, memory functions and behavior. The aim of this review is to present the main findings that have emerged from experiments which used the TMS technique for memory analysis. They mainly focused on the role of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex in memory process. Furthermore, we present state-of-the-art evidence supporting a possible use of TMS in the clinic. Specifically we focus on the treatment of memory deficits in depression and anxiety disorders.

Traces and echoes of De Architectura by Marcus Vitruvius Pollio in the work of Xu Guangqi in 17th century China

This study aims to investigate the role played by Xu Guangqi （1562-1633）, minister of the Ming Dynasty, in the development of European scientific and technical knowledge in China between the 16th and 17th centuries by analyzing a book of Western technology that he wrote, namely, Taixi Shuifa （On Western Hydraulics）. Several Western books related to machine knowledge are searched to trace the source of the illustrations in Taixi Shuifa. We found that Archimedes＇ screw and Ctesibius＇ machine, which are included in Vitruvius＇ De Architectura volumes, also appear in the work of Xu Guangqi.

Alzheimer’s disease(AD)is a progressive neurodegenerative condition that goes f rom mild cogni t ive impai rment in prodromal disease to severely disabling deficits in advanced *** risk for AD development,as well as progression and severity,clearly differ between men and women(Pike,2017).Epidemiological studies have shown that there is a significantly increased prevalence in the development of AD in women compared to men,which is usually explained by the longer lifespan of *** increased frequency may be due to the interplay between age and sex,in which genetic factors together with hormonal and metabolic patterns play a crucial ***,cognitive impairment has been confirmed to be greater in women than in men at the same stage of AD,likely due to reduced estrogen levels in postmenopausal women(Laws et al.,2016).
