refractory high-entropy alloys(HEAs)possess many useful properties such as high strength and high-temperature *** far,most studies on refractory HEAs have been limited to a few well-known compositions and on their coarse-grain bulk *** we fabricate nanocrystalline(TiZrHf)_(x)(NbTa)_(1−x)HEA thin films with a large range of compositions(x=0.07–0.90)by the direct current(DC)magnetron co-sputtering technique and measure their mechanical properties using the nanoindentation *** the as-deposited HEA thin films show a solid-solution body-centered cubic(bcc)*** the compositional ratio(x)increases,the elastic modulus decreases from 153 to 123 GPa,following the trend of the rule of *** x increases,the hardness first decreases from 6.5 GPa(x=0.07)to the lowest value(4.6 GPa,x=0.48)and then increases to the highest value(7.1 GPa,x=0.90),showing a concave *** change in hardness might be attributed to the combinational influence caused by the atomic size and modulus effects,as well as the texture *** authors also propose a few open questions for future studies on this and related HEA systems.

In this work, lateral deformation of human eosinophil cell during the lateral indentation by an optically trapped microbead of diameter 4.5 µm is studied. The images were captured using a CCD camera and the Boltzmann statistics method was used for force calibration. Using the Hertz model, we calculated and compared the elastic moduli resulting from the lateral force, showing that the differences are important and the force should be considered. Besides the lateral component, the setup also allows us to examine the lateral cell-bead interaction. The mean values of the properties obtained, in particular the elastic stiffness and the shear stiffness, were Eh = (37.76 ± 2.85) µN/m and Gh = (12.57 ± 0.32) µN/m. These results show that the lateral indentation can therefore be used as a routine method for cell study, because it enabled us to manipulate the cell without contact with the laser.

Thermal models of buildings are helpful to forecast their energy use and to enhance the control of their mechanical ***,these models are building-specific and require a tedious,error-prone and time-consuming development effort relying on skilled building energy *** to white-box and gray-box models,data-driven(black-box)models require less development time and a minimal amount of information about the building *** this paper,autoregressive neural network models are compared to gray-box and black-box linear models to simulate indoor *** models are trained,validated and compared to actual experimental data obtained for an existing commercial building in Montreal(QC,Canada)equipped with roof top units for air *** show that neural networks mimic more accurately the thermal behavior of the building when limited information is available,compared to gray-box and black-box linear *** gray-box model does not perform adequately due to its under-parameterized nature,while the linear models cannot capture non-linear phenomena such as radiative heat transfer and ***,the neural network models outperform the alternative models in the presented application,reaching a coefficient of determination r2 up to 0.824 and a root mean square error down to 1.11℃,including the error propagation over time for a 1-week period with a 5-minute *** considering a 50-hour time horizon,the best neural networks reach a much lower root mean square error of around 0.6℃,which is suitable for applications such as model predictive control.

The phytohormone auxin is essential for plant development and contributes to nearly every aspect of the plant life cycle. The spatio-temporal distribution of auxin depends on a complex interplay between auxin metabolism and cell-to-cell auxin transport. Auxin metabolism and transport are both crucial for plant development; however, it largely remains to be seen how these processes are integrated to ensure defined cellular auxin levels or even gradients within tissues or organs. In this review, we provide a glance at very diverse topics of auxin biology, such as biosynthesis, conjugation, oxidation, and transport of auxin. This broad, but certainly superficial, overview highlights the mutual importance of auxin metabolism and transport. Moreover, it allows pinpointing how auxin metabolism and transport get integrated to jointly regulate cellular auxin homeostasis. Even though these processes have been so far only separately studied, we assume that the phytohormonal crosstalk integrates and coordinates auxin metabolism and transport. Besides the integrative power of the global hormone signaling, we additionally introduce the hypothetical concept considering auxin transport components as gatekeepers for auxin responses.

Slow Pyrolysis of Sugarcane Bagasse for the Production of Char and the Potential of Its By-Product for Wood Protection

Sugarcane bagasse was pyrolyzed using a laboratory fixed bed reactor to produce char and its by-product(pyrolysis liquid).The pyrolysis experiments were carried out using different temperatures(400℃ and 500℃),heating rate(1℃/min and 10℃/min),and holding time(30 min and 60 min).Char was characterized according to its thermal properties,while the pyrolysis liquid was tested for its anti-fungal and anti-termite *** temperature and heating rate had a significant influence on the char properties and the yield of char and pyrolysis liquid,where a high-quality char and high yield of pyrolysis liquid can be obtained at a temperature of 500℃ and a heating rate of 10℃/*** yield of char and pyrolysis liquid was 28.97%and 55.46%,*** principal compounds of pyrolysis liquid were water,acetic acid,glycolaldehyde,1-hydroxy-2-propanone,methanol,formic acid,levoglucosan,furfural,followed by some phenol compounds and guaiacol *** liquid at a concentration of 0.20%and 0.25%(v/v)caused a 100%inhibition of Coniophora puteana and Trametes versicolor,respectively,when performing inhibition growth tests in Petri *** paper treated with 10%of pyrolysis liquid caused 100%of termite mortality,while only 5.65%–7.03%of the treated filter papers consumed by termites at such *** liquid is potentially effective to be used in the formulation of wood protection against fungi and termites.

Penetration of the power generated using wind and solar energy to electrical grid network causing several incidents of the grid tripping, power outage, and frequency drooping. This has increased restart （star-stop） cycles of the hydroelectric turbines significantly since grid connected hydroelectric turbines are widely used to manage critical conditions of the grid. Each cycle induces significant stresses due to unsteady pressure loading on the runner blades. The presented work investigates the pressure loading to a high head （ He = 377 m, De = 1.78 m） Francis turbine during start-stop. The measurements were carried out on a scaled model turbine （HM = 12.5 m, DM = 0.349 m）. Total four operating points were considered. At each operating point, three schemes of guide vanes opening and three schemes of guide vanes closing were investigated. The results show that total head variation is up to 9% during start-stop of the turbine. On the runner blade, the maximum pressure amplitudes are about 14 kPa and 16 kPa from the instantaneous mean value of 121 kPa during rapid start-up and shutdown, respectively, which are about 1.5 times larger than that of the slow start-up and shutdown. Moreover, the maximum pressure fluctuations are given at the blade trailing edge.

Trace tools like LTTng have a very low impact on the traced software as compared with traditional debuggers. However, for long runs, in resource constrained and high throughput environments, such as embedded network switching nodes and production servers, the collective tracing impact on the target software adds up considerably. The overhead is not just in terms of execution time but also in terms of the huge amount of data to be stored, processed and analyzed offiine. This paper presents a novel way of dealing with such huge trace data generation by introducing a just-In-Time （jIT） filter based tracing system, for sieving through the flood of high frequency events, and recording only those that are relevant, when a specific condition is met. With a tiny filtering cost, the user can filter out most events and focus only on the events of interest. We show that in certain scenarios, the jIT compiled filters prove to be three times more effective than similar interpreted filters. We also show that with the increasing number of filter predicates and context variables, the benefits of jIT compilation increase with some jIT compiled filters being even three times faster than their interpreted counterparts. We further present a new architecture, using our filtering system, which can enable co-operative tracing between kernel and process tracing VMs （virtual machines） that share data efficiently. We demonstrate its use through a tracing scenario where the user can dynamically specify syscall latency through the userspace tracing VM whose effect is reflected in tracing decisions made by the kernel tracing VM. We compare the data access performance on our shared memory system and show an almost 100 times improvement over traditional data sharing for co-operative tracing.

Delphacid relationships from the genus level to the subfamily have been completely resolved （among those taxa examined） using sequence data from the 3＇ end of the 12S gene. Monophyly of the non-asiracine subfamilies was strongly supported and the asiracine Ugyops was placed in the most basal position of the tree. Support levels for monophyly of the Delphacini increased after weighting transversions more heavily than transitions and after removing the cixiid outgroup from the dataset. Among the Delphacini, Conomelus and Megamelus were more closely related to each other than either was to Chloriona. These results are in agreement with the tree based on morphological characters. However, in contrast to morphological data our results strongly supported a sister group relationship between the Stenocraninae and the Kelisiinae. Although the 12S gene fragment gave some information about the species relationships within Chloriona, neither this fragment nor the 5＇ end of the 16S gene appear to be very useful for this level. Molecular evolutionary patterns provided evidence that there has been a shift in base composition from T to A during the early evolution of the non-Asiracinae. The non-Asiracinae also had comparatively fast substitution rates and these two observations are possibly correlated. In the ‘ modem＇ delphacid Chloriona, the AT content was comparatively low in regions free of constraints but this was not the case for ‘ non-modem＇ delphacids. The trNA for valine has been translocated elsewhere, probably before the Delphacidae and Cixiidae diverged from each other.

Background:Survival from pancreatic cancer is low *** the US,the 5-year relative survival has been slightly higher for women,whites and younger patients than for their counterparts,and differences in age and stage at diagnosis[Corrections added Nov 16,2022,after first online publication:a new affiliation is added to Maja Nikšić]may contribute to this *** aimed to examine trends in survival by race,stage,age and sex for adults(15-99 years)diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the ***:This population-based study included 399,427 adults registered with pancreatic cancer in 41 US state cancer registries during 2001-2014,with followup to December 31,*** estimated age-specific and age-standardized net survival at 1 and 5 ***:Overall,12.3%of patients were blacks,and 84.2%were *** 9.5%of patients were diagnosed with localized disease,but 50.5%were diagnosed at an advanced stage;slightly more among blacks,mainly among *** substantial changes were seen over time(2001-2003,2004-2008,2009-2014).In general,1-year net survival was higher in whites than in blacks(26.1%vs.22.1%during 2001-2003,35.1%vs.31.4%during 2009-2014).This difference was particularly evident among patients with localized disease(49.6%in whites vs.44.6%in blacks during 2001-2003,60.1%vs.55.3%during 2009-2014).The survival gap between blacks and whites with localized disease was persistent at 5 years after diagnosis,and it widened over time(from 24.0%vs.21.3%during 2001-2003 to 39.7%vs.31.0%during 2009-2014).The survival gap was wider among men than among ***:Gaps in 1-and 5-year survival between blacks and whites were persistent throughout 2001-2014,especially for patients diagnosed with a localized tumor,for which surgery is currently the only treatment modality with the potential for cure.
