Compressional origin of the Aegean Orogeny,Greece

The Aegean Sea area is thought to be an actively extending back-arc region,north of the present day Hellenic volcanic arc and north-dipping subduction zone in the Eastern *** area shows extensive normal faulting,ductile‘extensional’shear zones and extensional S-C fabrics throughout the islands that have previously been related to regional Aegean extension associated with slab rollback on the Hellenic Subduction *** this paper,we question this interpretation,and suggest the Cenozoic geodynamic evolution of the Aegean region is associated with a Late Cretaceous-Eocene NE-dipping subduction zone that was responsible for continentcontinent collision between Eurasia and Adria-Apulia/*** of eclogite and blueschist facies rocks in the Cyclades and kyanite-sillimanite grade gneisses in the Naxos core complex have pressures that are far greater than could be accounted for purely by lithospheric extension and isostatic *** identify four stages of crustal shortening that affected the region prior to regional lithospheric extension,herein called the Aegean *** orogeny followed a classic Wilson cycle from early ophiolite obduction(ca.74 Ma)onto a previously passive continental margin,to attempted crustal subduction with Hp eclogite and blueschist facies metamorphism(ca.54-45 Ma),through crustal thickening and regional kyanite-sillimanite grade Barroviantype metamorphism(ca.22-14 Ma),to orogenic collapse(periods of‘extensional’fabrics relate to:(1)Exhumation of blueschists and eclogite facies rocks showing tight-isoclinal folds and top-NE,base-SW fabrics,recording return flow along a subduction channel in a compressional tectonic setting(ca.50-35 Ma).(2)Extensional fabrics within the core complexes formed by exhumation of kyanite-and sillimanite gneisses showing thrust-related fabrics at the base and‘extensional’fabrics along the top(ca.18.5-14 Ma).(3)Regional ductile-brittle‘extensional’fabrics and low-angle

Zircon U-pb-Hf constraints from Gongga Shan granites on young crustal melting in eastern Tibet

The Gongga Shan batholith is a complex granitoid batholith on the eastern margin of the Tibetan plateau with a long history of magmatism spanning from the Triassic to the pliocene. Late Miocene-pliocene units are the youngest exposed crustal melts within the entire Asian plate of the Tibetan ***, we present in-situ zircon Hf isotope constraints on their magmatic source, to aid the understanding of how these young melts were formed and how they were exhumed to the surface. Hf isotope signatures of Eocene to pliocene zircon rims(ε_(Hf)(t)=-4 to +4), interpreted to have grown during localised crustal melting, are indicative of melting of a Neoproterozoic source region, equivalent to the nearby exposed Kangding Complex. Therefore, we suggest that Neoproterozoic crust underlies this region of the Songpan-Ganze terrane, and sourced the intrusive granites that form the Gongga Shan batholith. Localised young melting of Neoproterozoic lower or middle crust requires localised melt-fertile lithologies. We suggest that such melts may be equivalent to seismic and magnetotelluric low-velocity and high-conductivity zones or "bright spots" imaged across much of the Tibetan plateau. The lack of widespread exposed melts this age is due either to the lack of melt-fertile rocks in the middle crust, the very low erosion level of the Tibetan plateau, or to a lack of mechanism for exhuming such melts. For Gongga Shan, where some melting is younger than nearby thermochronological ages of low temperature cooling, the exact process and timing of exhumation remains enigmatic, but their location away from the Xianshuihe fault precludes the fault acting as a conduit for the young melts. We suggest that underthrusting of dry granulites of the lower Indian crust(Archaean shield) this far northeast is a plausible mechanism to explain the uplift and exhumation of the eastern Tibetan plateau.

背景中国全科医生越来越期望能够识别和预防抑郁障碍,但其接受的心理健康培训有限,社区卫生服务中心(CHCs)也缺乏针对抑郁障碍的诊断和服务规范。WHO《心理健康差距干预指南》第2版(mhGAp-IG.v2)是为非心理健康专业人员提供的决策支持工具,可用于评估、管理、随访精神障碍、神经疾病及物质使用障碍患者。鉴于mhGAp-IG.v2的通用性,其在中国的应用应根据抑郁障碍在不同文化下的差异性和中国心理健康系统特点进行调整。方法开展两轮基于网络的德尔菲(Delphi)调查。邀请来自深圳市的全科医生小组对mhGAp-IG.v2中涉及抑郁障碍的199条表述进行五分制的赞同程度打分,即“如要把该表述用在深圳市,是否赞同调整其内容和结构”。如果>80%的全科医生“有些/肯定赞同”调整某表述,则视为全科医生对调整该表述达成共识;如果>80%的全科医生“有些/肯定不赞同”调整某表述,则视为全科医生对不调整该表述达成共识。结果全科医生对79%的表述达成了需要调整的共识,平均得分为4.26分,即全科医生“有些赞同”对mh GAp-IG.v2中涉及抑郁障碍的相关表述进行调整。具体调整建议包括:抑郁评估方法应考虑更广泛的抑郁症状,并考虑病情的发展阶段;增加抑郁筛查工具的使用指南;明确全科医生的作用,以及家庭参与和跨部门服务的转诊途径;药物治疗建议应与中国用药规范保持一致;指南所有章节要强调预防自杀;情境化健康教育;强调“以人为本”的服务方法。全科医生认为,应维持mhGAp-IG.v2中对经历抑郁发作的双相障碍患者的诊断和治疗建议。结论对mhGAp-IG.v2抑郁部分的调整研究反映出对指南的评估应考虑文化和国情背景,包括中国特色的初级卫生保健系统、健康优先领域、治疗可得性,以及多样化的社会心理教育需要。调整后的mhGAp-IG.v2可以给中国全科医学教育和全科医疗服务提供参考,也可以为其他国家的非精神病学专业人员开展心理健康服务提供有益借鉴。

The Deaths of One Conceptual Metaphor in Two Languages

This title refers to what I see as the state of synonymy between the word "husbandry" in English and the word se 嗇 in Chinese. There are points of striking similarity, not only in the meaning and usage of these two words, but also in the changes in their usage over time, and I have found a comparative study of the etymology of these two words to be mutually illuminating. The similarity and potential for mutual analysis between these two case studies speaks to the universality of metaphor in thought and its expression, as well as the influence of shared experiences, such as agricultural practices, on how we talk about ideas that are more abstract. In English, the idea of a general practice of husbandry derived from the idea of the husbandman or farmer in Late Medieval English (Cl3th onwards). A more abstracted sense of husbandry, understood as an attitude that may be applied to abstract and intangible objects is witnessed in Shakespeare's sonnets in the Cl6th. This sense of husbandry, the husbandry of intangible resources, is also precisely the sense that is developed by a small and specialised group of writers in China represented by texts dating from the pre-Qin period to the Eastern Jin dynasty, following a similar progression from agricultural to ever more metaphorical senses of the practice of husbandry. The similarity of the process through which these abstracted meanings developed from concrete usage in both cases makes the pair mutually illustrative as I hope to show in this paper.

Comparative antibody study for antigen detection in urine specimens for diagnosis of blastomycosis using a competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay

Diagnosis of blastomycosis is often done using a combination of clinical signs and cytologic or histopathologic identification of the organism, Blastomyces dermatitidis, from infected tissues. However, these methods are time consuming, invasive, and still lead to misdiagnosis. A competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) can be used for detection of B. dermatitidis antigens, which are present in urine specimens of infected patients. The current study evaluates the use of various antibodies for detection of antigen in dog urine specimens, to provide a better diagnosis of blastomycosis in the future. Our results show that different antibodies against B. dermatitidis produce various sensitivities for antigen detection. The most realistic antibodies for immunodiagnostic tests would be antibodies that can be obtained in larger quantities, i.e. vaccination using a yeast lysate in a laboratory setting. We found that these antibodies produce a comparable and reliable result to that of antibodies obtained from an infected patient.
