Characterizing the patient experience during neoadjuvant therapy for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma:A qualitative study

BACKGROUND Neoadjuvant therapy(NT)has increasingly been utilized for patients with localized pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC).It is the recommended approach for borderline resectable(BR)and locally advanced(LA)cancers and an increasingly utilized option for potentially resectable(PR)*** its increased use,little research has focused on patient-centered metrics among patients undergoing NT,including patient experiences,preferences,and recommendations.A better understanding of all aspects of the patient experience during NT may identify opportunities to design interventions aimed at improving quality of life;it may also facilitate the completion of NT and receipt of surgery,ultimately optimizing long-term *** To understand the experience of patients initiating and receiving NT to identify opportunities to improve neoadjuvant cancer care *** Semi-structured interviews of patients with localized PDAC during NT were conducted to explore their experience initiating and receiving *** took place between August 2020 and October *** to the descriptive nature of the research,questions were open *** were conducted over the phone,audio recorded and then *** interviews were coded by two independent researchers using NVivo 12,iteratively identifying themes until thematic saturation was *** integrative approach to qualitative analysis was used,utilizing both inductive and deductive *** A total of 12 patients with localized PDAC were *** with BR(n=7),PR(n=2),and LA(n=3)cancers participated in the *** patients indicated that choosing NT was the doctor’s recommendation,while most reported not being familiar with the concept of NT(n=11)and that NT was presented as the only option(n=8).Five themes describing the patient experience emerged:physical symptoms,emotional symptoms,coping mechanisms,access to care,and life *** most commonly cited recommendation for

Liver magnetic resonance imaging(mRI)has seen a massive increase in its use over the last *** its first description in the early 1980s,contrast‐enhanced mRI is now the gold standard for the diagnosis of hepatocellular cancer in patients with liver *** like magnetic resonance(mR)elastography and combinations of multiple mR parameters in single scanning protocols are now available and these are opening new possibilities for the assessment of multiple aspects of disease in patients with liver *** this narrative review,we provide an overview of the use of mRI in patients with cirrhosis for the diagnosis of and screening for liver cancer,for the diagnosis of cirrhosis and prediction of long‐term outcomes,and for the evaluation of portal *** the multitude of techniques now available and the number of cirrhosis aspects that can be assessed by single scans make the study and application of mRI an attractive target in the search for a technique for use in this group of patients that often have to attend for multiple appointments and multiple tests,including invasive investigations.

Development of Algorithm for Person Re-Identification Using Extended Openface method

Deep learning has risen in popularity as a face recognition technology in recent ***,a deep convolutional neural network(DCNN)developed by Google,recognizes faces with 128 bytes per *** also claims to have achieved 99.96%on the reputed Labelled Faces in the Wild(LFW)***-ever,the accuracy and validation rate of Facenet drops down eventually,there is a gradual decrease in the resolution of the *** research paper aims at developing a new facial recognition system that can produce a higher accuracy rate and validation rate on low-resolution face *** proposed system Extended Openface performs facial recognition by using three different features i)facial landmark ii)head pose iii)eye *** extracts facial landmark detection using Scattered Gated Expert Network Constrained Local model(SGEN-CLm).It also detects the head pose and eye gaze using Enhanced Constrained Local Neur-alfield(ECLNF).Extended openface employs a simple Support Vector machine(SVm)for training and testing the face *** system’s performance is assessed on low-resolution datasets like LFW,Indian movie Face Database(ImFDB).The results demonstrated that Extended Openface has a better accuracy rate(12%)and validation rate(22%)than Facenet on low-resolution images.

死亡率建模与预测是精算科学的重要基础，而仿射死亡率模型作为一种经典的连续时间随机模型被大量地应用于评估系统性死亡率的发展，其中模型构建的一种常用方法是卡尔曼滤波算法。本文针对传统卡尔曼滤波算法在建模过程中自动忽略近期非完整队列数据的情况，借鉴机器学习和贝叶斯算法中迭代学习的理念，对传统算法进行了拓展，从而将近期非完整队列数据应用于模型拟合与预测中。通过量化分析对比证明了基于拓展算法的模型在预测方面，尤其是长期预测中，有两方面的优势：更好地捕提了系统性死亡率风险的变动，避免了对长期长寿风险的低估；在预测精度方面有了较大的提升，特别是在长期预测时优势更为明显。

Long-term cycles of the Solar System concealed in the mesozoic sedimentary basin record

mounting evidence indicates that the orbital period of the solar system’s movement through the milky Way has had a controlling effect on processes of the Earth’s system throughout the *** decipher the response of a given terrestrial basin’s rhythms to galactic dynamics,for the first time,we report long-term cycles recorded in the mesozoic Ordos Basin(Central China).The astronomical time scale(ATS)was established for each successive sedimentary sequence,and the duration of unconformity episodes was estimated based on the chronological *** this timescale,time-series analysis of the deposition rate is carried out through the mesozoic Ordos Basin,which reveals compelling periodicities of 93,33,9,3-5,and *** radial solar system motions around the galactic centre and plate tectonic cycles act cooperatively to impact the magmatic tempo of the Qinling orogenic belt and the 93-myr depositional cycle of the mesozoic Ordos *** mesozoic 33-myr cycle is a sedimentary response to the half-period of the solar system’s vertical oscillation about the galactic plane.A rational explanation is that galactic oscillation affects mantle convection,which is responsible for periodic asthenospheric upwelling and ultimately controls the vertical crust oscillation of the Ordos *** 9-myr and the higher-frequency 3-5and 2.4-myr depositional cycles can be sedimentary responses to the Earth’s orbital eccentricity,which affected the temporal variation in depositional environments in the Ordos *** from the galactic-geologic correlations,long-term cycles recorded within a sedimentary basin should also consider the tectonically driven mechanisms at these *** framework provides a new perspective for revealing the astronomical origin of Earth’s rhythms.

modified correlation for minimum fluidization velocity of low-density particles in inverse liquid-solid fluidized beds

The minimum fluidization velocity(U_(mf))is a key parameter for the scale-up of inverse liquid-solid flu-idized *** predictions using common correlations were compared against experimental minimum fluidization velocity measurements of low density(28-638 kg/m^(3)),0.80-1.13 mm Styrofoam particles in a fluidized bed with a height of 4.5 m and 0.2 m *** average absolute relative deviation for the predicted minimum fluidization velocity for particles below 300 kg/m^(3) was above 40%using the studied common correlations.A modified Wen and Yu correlation was thus proposed based on novel and past measurements with low-density and small-diameter particles,expanding the range for predicting U_(mf).The new correlation predicted U_(mf) with deviations below 15%for ST028,ST122 and *** modified correlation also improved U_(mf) predictions for comparable particles from a previous study,demonstrating its validity for a larger range of low-density particles.

Particle behavior in a turbulent pipe flow with a flat bed

Particle behavior in a turbulent flow in a circular pipe with a bed height h=0.5R is studied at Reb=40,000 and for two sizes of particles(5μm and 50μm)using large eddy simulation,one-way coupled with a Lagrangian particle tracking *** secondary flows are found within the pipe,with the curved upper wall affecting the secondary flow formation giving rise to a pair of large upper vortices above two smaller vortices close to the pipe *** behavior of the two sizes of particle is found to be quite *** 50μm particles deposit forming irregular elongated particle streaks close to the pipe floor,particularly at the center of the flow and the pipe corners due to the impact of the secondary *** deposition and resuspension rate of the 5μm particles is high near the center of the floor and at the pipe corners,while values for the 50μm particles are greatest near the *** the curved upper wall of the pipe,the deposition rate of the 5μm particles increases in moving from the wall center to the corners,and is greater than that for the larger particles due to the effects of the secondary *** maximum resuspension rate of the smaller particles occurs above the pipe corners,with the 50μm particles showing their highest resuspension rate above and at the corners of the pipe.
