TGF-betas are pleiotropic growth factors with important roles in normal homeostasis and complex roles in tumorigenesis. In general TGF-betas function as tumor suppressors early in the tumorigenic process and as pro-metastatic factors later. Metastasis-promoting activities include the enhancement of invasion and migration, the promotion of angiogenesis, and the suppression of immune surveillance. Overexpression of TGF-beta in many advanced human tumors correlates with metastasis and poor prognosis, and there is considerable interest in developing TGF-beta antagonists for cancer therapy. However, the complexity of TGF-beta action, involving the context-dependent interplay of many cellular targets, means that preclinical animal models are critical for evaluating such agents.

Silica Pigments for Glossy Ink Jet Media

Silica is a versatile pigment for ink jet media. Micronized silica gel is the worldwide standard for high performance matte ink jet media. For glossy ink jet media, several different forms of silica are widely used. Submicron silica gel dispersions, with either anionic or cationic surfaces, can be employed in either absorptive basecoat layers or in the glossy ink receptive top layer. Colloidal silica, with a variety of particle sizes and surface modifications, is utilized extensively in glossy top layers. It will show how various silica pigments can be utilized in glossy ink receptive coatings, both in cast based glossy media and RC based glossy media. Several novel silica pigments will be examined by relating the physical properties of the pigments and the formula variables to the print quality of the ink jet media.

Body Composition and Performance Capabilities Based on Protein Intake in Collegiate Dancers： A Pilot Study

The aesthetic nature of dance places pressure on the athlete to have low body weight and fat and despite data showing higher protein intake improving body composition in numerous populations, a paucity of data exists on dancers. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine associations between protein intake, body composition and performance among dancers. Female dancers （n = 25; age 20.7 ± 1.8 years; mean ± SD） completed three-day diet logs, body composition （DXA）, and performance testing. Protein intake was expressed as g/kg/day and three equal tertiles were created （Low protein： LP, 〈 1.2 g/kg/day; Moderate protein： MP, 1.2-1.6 g/kg/day; High protein： HP, 〉 1.6 g/kg/day）. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA to compare group means with significance at P 〈 0.05. Protein and energy intake were greater in HP compared to LP （P = 0.001, 0.033, respectively）. The only performance difference observed was peak horizontal force （AMTI force platform） which was significantly greater in HP compared to LP （LP： 295.7 ± 111.1N, HP： 419.9 ± 76.7N; P = 0.029）. In conclusion, no significant differences were found between protein tertiles and body composition. Nevertheless, protein intake may be physiologically important to dancers when combined with evidence from other athletic .populations indicating high protein and energy intake may be beneficial to body composition.

The Wiener-Hopf(WH) method was created in 1931, by Norbert Wiener and Eberhard Hopf, to deliver exact solutions to integral equations with convolutiontype kernels on a half-line. It appears that this problem is closely related to that posed by Riemann in 1857 on the problem concerning the construction of a Fuchsian system of differential equations with given singular points and a prescribed monodromy group. This later became known as the 21 st Hilbert problem. The WH method is a powerful and long-standing tool that served as a catalyst in broadening the applicability of Fourier analysis, owing to the essential characteristics of analytic functions.
