Bacterial biofilm-associated infection was one of the most serious threats to human health. However, effective drugs for drug-resistance bacteria or biofilms remain rarely reported. Here, we propose an innovative strategy to develop a multifunctional antimicrobial agent with broad-spectrum antibacterial activity by coupling photosensitizers (PSs) with antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). This strategy capitalizes on the ability of PSs to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the membrane-targeting property of AMPs (KRWWKWIRW, a peptide screened by an artificial neural network), synergistically enhancing the antimicrobial activity. In addition, unlike conventional aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) photosensitizers, aggregation-induced emission (AIE) PSs show stronger fluorescence emission in the aggregated state to help visualize the antibacterial mechanism. In vitro antibacterial experiments demonstrated the excellent killing effects of the developed agent against both Gram-positive (G^(+)) and Gram-negative (G^(–)) bacteria. The bacterial-aggregations induced ability enhanced the photoactivatable antibacterial activity against G^(–) bacteria. Notably, it exhibited a significant effect on destroying MRSA biofilms. Moreover, it also showed remarkable efficacy in treating wound infections in mice in vivo. This multifunctional antimicrobial agent holds significant potential in addressing the challenges posed by bacterial biofilm-associated infections and drug-resistant bacteria.

Bipolar molecules incorporating donor and acceptor components within a single molecule provide new device opportunities due to their intrinsic behavior as nanoscale p-n heterojunctions. The suitability of such molecules for photovoltaic applications depends on many factors, including the energy and spatial distribution of molecular orbitals, the influence of environment, how the molecules are assembled, and optical excitation response. Here we report a direct characterization of the local electronic structure of the bipolar molecule bithiophene naphthalene diimide （BND）. Using scanning tunneling spectroscopy, we were able to study the internal electronic structure of individual BND molecules on a thin insulating layer of NaCl. We find that BND molecules exhibit type II heterojunction behavior with orbital energy shifts occurring over subnanometer intramolecular interface distances. At higher coverage on metal substrates BND molecules with different bridge structures self-assemble into 1-d molecular chains. Our experimental results can be understood through the use of first-principle theoretical modeling, and provide new insights into how these molecular systems might be optimized.

In the blossoming field of Cd-free semiconductor quantum dots(QDs),ternary Ⅰ-Ⅲ-VI QDs have received increasing attention due to the ease of the environmentally friendly synthesis of high-quality materials in water,their high photoluminescence(PL)quantum yields(QYs)in the red and near infrared(NIR)region,and their inherently low ***,their oxygen-insensitive long PL lifetimes of up to several hundreds of nanoseconds close a gap for applications exploiting the compound-specific parameter PL *** overcome the lack of reproducible synthetic methodologies and to enable a design-based control of their PL properties,we assessed and modelled the synthesis of high-quality MPA-capped AglnS2/ZnS(AlS/ZnS)*** refined parameters included reaction time,temperature,Ag:In ratio,S:In ratio,Zn:In ratio,MPA:ln ratio,and pH using a design-of-experiment *** for the optimization was provided by mathematical models developed for the application-relevant PL parameters,maximum PL wavelength,QY,and PL lifetime as well as the elemental composition in terms of Ag:ln:Zn *** these experimental data-based models,MPA:ln and Ag:ln ratios and pH values were identified as the most important synthesis parameters for PL control and an insight into the connection of these parameters could be ***,the experimental conditions to synthetize QDs with tunable emission and high QY were *** excellent agreement between the predicted and experimentally found PL features confirmed the reliability of our methodology for the rational design of high quality AlS/ZnS QDs with defined PL *** approach can be straightforwardly extended to other ternary and quaternary QDs and to doped QDs.

Three decades of vulnerability research have generated a complex and growing body of *** concept of vulnerability,as well as its implementation in vulnerability assessments,is used in various disciplines and ***,a multitude of ideas and frameworks about how to conceptualize and measure vulnerability *** provide a structured representation of vulnerability,we have set up an ontology-based semantic wiki for reviewing and representing vulnerability assessments(***).Based on a survey of 55 vulnerability assessment studies,we first developed an ontology as an explicit reference system for describing vulnerability *** ontology was then implemented in a semantic wiki which allows for the classification and annotation of vulnerability *** resulting semantic wiki,Vu Wiki,does not aim at‘‘synthesizing’’a holistic and overarching model of vulnerability,but at(1)providing—both scientists and practitioners—with a uniform ontology as a reference system;(2)providing easy and structured access to the knowledge field of vulnerability assessments with the possibility for any user to retrieve assessments using specific research criteria;and(3)serving as a collaborative knowledge platform that allows for the active participation of those generating and using the knowledge represented in the vulnerability wiki.

Gastrointestinal infections are a major cause for serious clinical complications in *** induction of antibody responses by B cells is critical for protective immunity against infections and requires CXCR5+PD-1++CD4+T cells(TFH cells).We investigated the ontogeny of CXCR5+PD-1++CD4+T cells in human *** CXCR5+PD-1++CD4+T cells were absent in fetal intestines,CXCR5+PD-1++CD4+T cells increased after birth and were abundant in infant intestines,resulting in significant higher numbers compared to *** findings were supported by scRNAseq analyses,showing increased frequencies of CD4+T cells with a TFH gene signature in infant intestines compared to ***-cultures of autologous infant intestinal CXCR5+PD-1+/−CD4+T cells with B cells further demonstrated that infant intestinal TFH cells were able to effectively promote class switching and antibody production by B *** together,we demonstrate that functional TFH cells are numerous in infant intestines,making them a promising target for oral pediatric vaccine strategies.

HOM study and parameter calculation of the TESLA cavity model

The Superconducting Proton Linac （SPL） is the project for a superconducting, high current Haccelerator at CERN. To find dangerous higher order modes （HOMs） in the SPL superconducting cavities, simulation and analysis for the cavity model using simulation tools are necessary. The existing TESLA 9-cell cavity geometry data have been used for the initial construction of the models in HFSS. Monopole, dipole and quadrupole modes have been obtained by applying different symmetry boundaries on various cavity models. In calculation, scripting language in HFSS was used to create scripts to automatically calculate the parameters of modes in these cavity models （these scripts are also available in other cavities with different cell numbers and geometric structures）. The results calculated automatically are then compared with the values given in the TESLA paper. The optimized cavity model with the minimum error will be taken as the base for further simulation of the SPL cavities.
