Dear Editor,Recent studies from us and others have deciphered the clinical relevance of a variety of oncohistones1 in different *** H3K27M and H3K36M mutant histones exert dominant-negative effects on methylation levels of histone H3K27 and H3K36 on wildtype histone protein in pediatric brain cancers2–4 and chondroblastoma,5,6 *** contrast to H3K27M and H3K36M that act in trans to cause global reduction of methylation at the respective residues,the H3G34 mutations,including H3G34V/R and H3G34W/L found in pediatric high-grade glioma and giant cell tumor of the bone,affect the H3K36 methylation in cis and alter the H3K36 methylation on the nucleosome containing the H3G34 mutation(s).

Dear Editor,The Cretaceous-Paleogene(K-Pg)mass extinction precipitated one of the most profound restructurings of biodiversity in recent geological *** the extinction of many iconic groups,particularly the non-avian dinosaurs,there is emerging evidence that previously overlooked taxa experienced stark morphological and evolutionary *** this study,we report both adult and larva of beetles of the genus Loricera preserved in mid-Cretaceous Kachin amber(Figure 1),which display striking similarity to extant congeners,indicating a stasis of their specialized feeding behavior persisting at least 100 million years.

Etching Mechanism of Ti_(3)C_(2)Cl_(2) MXene Phases by CuCl_(2)-Lewis Molten Salt Method

We described a method for obtaining fluorine-free Ti_(3)C_(2)Cl_(2)MXene phases by melting copper in CuCl_(2)instead of aluminum in Ti_(3)AlC_(2).XRD results show that when molten salt CuCl_(2)etches Ti_(3)AlC_(2),it forms an intermediate product Ti_(3)CuC_(2),and then reacts with Ti_(3)CuC_(2)to obtain Ti_(3)C_(2)Cl_(2).The reaction of Ti_(3)AlC_(2)and CuCl_(2)at a temperature of 800℃for 2 h to obtain Ti_(3)C_(2)Cl_(2)with an optimal lamellar structure is shown in SEM *** pseudopotential plane-wave(PP-PW)method is used to calculate on the electronic *** etching mechanism is investigated by the total energies of each *** chemical reaction of Ti_(3)AlC_(2)and CuCl_(2)will first become Ti_(3)CuC_(2)and Cu,and then become Ti_(3)C_(2)Cl_(2)during the Lewis acid etching process,which are consistent with the experimental results.

An analysis of air pollution associated with the 2023 sand and dust storms over China:Aerosol properties and PM_(10) variability

Every spring,a large part of China is confronted with sand and dust storms(SDS)–mainly originating in the Gobi(including Chinese and Mongolian Gobi)and Taklamakan *** March-April 2023,most of northern,northwestern and northeastern China was struck by three sandstorms that affected an area with more than 500 million *** this study,aerosol optical,microphysical and radiative properties were studied during these SDS events using an integrated approach that combines satellite,terrestrial and re-analysis *** results showed that dusty conditions were observed in most areas north of the yangtze River(Chang Jiang)with daily average PM_(10)concentrations exceeding 1000 lg/m^(3) in many *** aerosol optical depth(AOD)at 550 nm during three SDS events exceeded a value of 1 throughout nearly the entire northern part of the *** AERONET data obtained from the AOE_Baotou site showed a significant increase in total AOD and a corresponding decrease in AE during the *** single scattering albedo(SSA),asymmetry parameter(ASY),real refractive index(RRI)and imaginary refractive index(IRI)values indicate an abundance of scattering coarse-mode *** radiative forcing(ARF)at top of the atmosphere and at the earth’s surface was nearly always negative during the period and ranged from48.5 to+2.7 Wm^(-2)and from180.8 to66.6 Wm^(-2),resulting in high positive ARF values at ATM(from+63.8 to+132.3 Wm^(-2)).Each of these affects the heating of the atmosphere and cooling on the earth’s *** atmospheric heating rates ranged from 1.8 to 3.7 K day*** formation of these SDS mainly resulted from the passage of cold fronts associated with low pressure systems in the Gobi and Taklamakan deserts,creating conditions for dust to rise into the atmosphere and move further downwind.

Bacteria with functional DNA repair systems are expected to have low mutation rates due to strong natural selection for genomic ***,our study of the wild-type Streptococcus pneumoniae D39,a pathogen responsible for many common diseases,revealed a high spontaneous mutation rate of 0.02 per genome per cell division in mutation-accumulation(MA)*** rate is orders of magnitude higher than that of other non-mutator bacteria and is characterized by a high mutation bias in the A/T *** high mutation rate may have resulted from a reduction in the overall efficiency of selection,conferred by the tiny effective population size in *** line with this,*** D39 also exhibited the lowest DNA mismatch-repair(MMR)efficiency among *** with the antibiotic penicillin did not elevate the mutation rate,as penicillin did not induce DNA damage and *** lacks a stress response *** findings suggested that the MA results are applicable to within-host scenarios and provide insights into pathogen evolution.

Actin fibers are an important part of the cytoskeleton,providing vital support for the plasma *** function is driven by its ATPase(ATP:adenosine triphosphate)activity,i.e.,ATP+H_(2)O→ADP+*** seemingly simple reaction has attracted much attention because the hydrolysis of ATP provides energy to support life ***,the reaction mechanism of ATP hydrolysis in actin is not *** order to gain deep insights into the functions of actin,it is essential to elucidate the reaction mechanism of the actin ATP *** this paper,we have studied the reaction mechanism of the ATP hydrolysis in actin by the combined quantum mechanical and molecular mechanics(QM/MM)*** results show that 1)bond cleavage of the Pγ—OS of ATP and bond formation between oxygen of the lytic water and Pγatoms take place simultaneously,and this is the rate-limiting step of the hydrolysis;2)the proton on the lytic water transfers to the phosphate to form H_(2)P_(γ)O_(4)−via one bridge *** energy barrier of the complete reaction is 17.6 kcal/mol(1 kcal=4.184 kJ),which is in high agreement with the experimental value.
