Comparison of the performance and dynamics of the asymmetric single-sided and symmetric double-sided vibro-impact nonlinear energy sinks with optimized designs

The operation of symmetric double-sided and asymmetric single-sided vibro-impact nonlinear energy sinks(DSVI NES and SSVI NES)is considered in this *** methodology of optimization procedures is *** is emphasized that the execution of optimization procedures is ambiguous,allows for a great deal of arbitrariness,and requires experience and intuition on the part of the *** are a lot of damper parameter sets providing similar attenuation of the primary structure(PS)*** is shown that the efficiency of such mitigation for both VI NES types with optimized parameters is ***,their dynamic behavior differs *** system with the attached DSVI NES exhibits calm dynamics with periodic motion and symmetrical bilateral impacts on both *** system with attached SSVI NES exhibits rich complex dynamics when the exciting force frequency is *** modes of different periodicity with different numbers of asymmetric impacts per cycle on the PS directly and on the obstacle alternate with various irregular regimes,namely,chaotic mode,intermittency,and crisis-induced *** regions of bilateral impacts are narrow and located near resonance;they are narrower for a system with an attached DSVI *** a system with an attached SSVI NES,there are wider areas of asymmetric unilateral impacts.

Pareto Optimization as the Basic for Selecting Robotic Mechanic Assembly Technologies

The task of selecting robotic mechanic assembly technologies (RMAT) is considered as a multi-criteria optimization task, which in this formulation is solved on the set of previously obtained solutions regarding the selection of RMAT. The purpose of the paper is to increase the efficiency of technological preparation of robotic mechanical assembly production of machine and instrument engineering due to a new approach to the selection of RMAT using Pareto optimization and the peculiarities of the selection task formulation. The novelty consists in the further development of a science-based approach to solving multi-criteria selection task, based on the first proposed formalisms of the specified process, which reflect the peculiarities of the selection task formulation, its meaningful essence and the content of the Pareto optimization method. The practical value of the research lies in the proposed engineering-acceptable approach to solving applied multi-criteria selection tasks on the example of RMAT selection, which is invariant to the statement of the selection task, the dimension of the task, and its meaningful essence. The methods of discrete optimization, fuzzy multi-criteria selection of alternatives, and the Pareto optimization method were used for the research. The main results of this work consist of the development of formalisms and the demonstration of the efficiency of the proposed approach for the applied task of RMAT selection. The peculiarity of the developed approach is the combination of Pareto optimization, performed on a discrete set of local criteria. Directions for further research are presented.

Asymptomatic early acute appendicitis initiated and diagnosed during colonoscopy: A case report

Colonoscopic diagnosis of asymptomatic early acute appendicitis is exceedingly rare. Although obstruction of common physiologic mechanism of acute appendicitis, all of the previously documented cases in the literature have only shown a patent appendiceal lumen with pus flowing into the cecum. We present the case of a patient undergoing colonoscopy for colorectal cancer evaluation with no abdominal symptoms. An obstructed, swollen appendix was seen. The process was probably initiated during the colonoscopy, documenting perhaps the earliest stage of acute appendicitis for the first time. Endoscopic, CT and microsCOpic documentation of the case is also presented.

Accuracy estimation of site coordinates derived from GNSS-observations by non-classical error theory of measurements

The velocities of tectonic plates derived from GNSS time series are regularly used as input data for geophysical models. However, as shown by numerous researches, the coordinates time series contain residual errors of a systematic nature, which can significantly affect the reliability of the obtained velocity estimates. This research shows that using non-classical error theory of measurement(NETM)for processing GNSS time series allows detecting the presence of weak, not removed from GNSS processing, sources of systematic errors. Based on the coordinate time series of selected permanent GNSS stations in Europe, we checked the empirical distributions of errors by the NETM on G. Jeffries’ recommendations and on the principles of the theory of hypothesis tests according to Pearson’s criterion. It is established that the obtained coordinates time series of GNSS-stations only partially confirm the hypothesis of their conformity to the normal Gaussian distribution law, and this may be the main reason for their unrepresentative classification. In the future, it is necessary to identify and take into account the causes of residual errors that distort the real distribution of the results of the GNSS time series.

Accounting for local features of fouling formation on PHE heat transfer surface

The fouling phenomena can create significant operational problems in the industry by deteriorating heat recuperation, especially in heat exchangers with enhanced heat transfer. For a correct prediction of fouling development, the reliable fouling models must be used. The analysis of existing fouling models is presented. The chemical reaction and transport model developed earlier for a description of fouling on intensified heat transfer surfaces is used for modeling of plate heat exchanger (PHE) subjected to fouling. The mathematical model consists of a system of differential and algebraic equations. The integration of it is performed by finite difference method with developed software for personal computer. For countercurrent streams arrangement in PHE the solution of two-point boundary problem is realized on every time step. It enables to estimate local parameters of heat transfer process with fouling formation and its development in time with the growth of deposited fouling layer. Two examples of model application in cases of PHEs working at sugar factory and in district heating network are presented. The comparison with experimental data confirmed the model validity and the possibility of its application to determine the performance of PHE subjected to fouling.

Sensorless speed control of permanent magnet synchronous motor is one of the mature research topics where by different control algorithms are used to estimate rotor position and speed of motor in order to replace position sensor installed on machine *** knowledge of rotor position and speed as feedback is indispensable for accomplishing any type of machine *** thesis aims to design and implement sensorless speed control scheme for Interior Permanent Magnet Machine with Axial Flux Regulator so as to address challenges caused by mechanical sensors installed on its *** contrast to conventional interior permanent magnet synchronous motor,IPMAFR has a unique structure with an independent axial flux regulator that provides a shunted magnetic circuit to the primary radial stator for enhancing flux regulation *** this thesis,a novel Extended Kalman Filter（EKF）is developed for estimation of rotor position and speed of *** filter takes advantage of specific feature of IPMAFR（axial stator）to estimate its rotor speed with improved dynamic *** rotor parameters are incorporated in the estimation algorithm of the proposed EKF so as to enhance estimated rotor position and speed *** performance of the proposed EKF for medium speed operation is fairly compared with that of conventional EKF through simulation tests and found to exhibit improved overall performance of the IPMAR *** flux based and current based model reference adaptive systems for estimation of IPMAFR rotor position and speed are also *** analysis and fair comparison of the two sensorless speed control drives for normal speed operation are *** conducting Matlab/Simulink simulation tests under different medium speeds,general performance of estimated speed by flux based MRAS is found to surpass that of current based MRAS as it exhibits reduced speed *** simulation results for both novel EKF and flux based MRAS alg

Preparation of a Novel Micro/nano Tubes via Electrospun Fiber as a Template

Poly (para-xylylene) hollow fibers with inner diameters can be prepared via template fibers electrospun from solutions. The PPX is deposited from the vapor phase and the template fiber is selectively removed by heat treatment or solvent extraction. The PPX is partially crystalline and the crystal modification depending on the route is used to extract the template fiber. The thermal stability of the hollow fibers is only slightly reduced relative to the bulk material and the same holds for the UV-stability.

A comparison of fish tissue mercury concentrations from homogenized fillet and nonlethal biopsy plugs

The use of biopsy plugs to sample fish muscle tissue for mercury analyses is a viable alternative to lethal sampling; however, the practice has yet to be widely implemented in routine monitoring due to concerns about variability of mercury concentrations in fish muscle tissues. Here we examine distribution of mercury in fillets of four fish species(Walleye, Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass and Lake Trout), suitability of left/right side of fillet for biopsy sampling, and appropriateness of re-using a biopsy punch. The results showed that average mercury concentrations in left and right fillets of fish are *** concentrations in biopsy plug samples, taken from the anterior dorsal area of the fish fillet, were statistically equivalent to the mercury concentrations in homogenized fillets. There was no discernible cross contamination between samples when a biopsy punch was reused after washing in hot soapy water, and as such, biopsy punches can be recycled during sampling to reduce the sampling cost. If a tissue mass collected from a specific site on the fillet is insufficient, then we suggest sampling corresponding locations on the other fillet rather than sampling two adjacent sites on one fillet to obtain more tissue. The results presented here can improve the accuracy of fillet biopsy plug sampling,minimize fish mortality for mercury monitoring, and reduce labor and material costs in monitoring programs.
