Abundances of important and imperiled fishes of the Snake River Basin continue to *** assessed the rationale for breaching the four lower Snake River Basin dams to prevent complete loss of these fishes,and to maximize their likelihood of *** summarize the science surrounding Sockeye Salmon(Oncorhynchus nerka),Chinook Salmon(***),steelhead(***),Bull Trout(Salvelinus confluentus),White Sturgeon(Acipenser transmontanus),and Pacific Lamprey(Entosphenus tridentatus).From this,we drew ten conclusions:(1)development of the Columbia River System(including the Snake River Basin)has converted mainstem rivers into reservoirs,altering fish behavior and survival;(2)most populations currently record their lowest abundance;(3)the Columbia River System dams reduce productivity of diadromous fishes in the highest-quality spawning grounds that could buffer against future climate dynamics;(4)past actions have done little to reduce impacts or precipitate recovery;(5)the Columbia River System constrains survival and productivity of salmon,steelhead and Bull Trout;(6)Snake River Basin salmon and steelhead remain at high extinction risk;(7)eliminating migration impediments and improving mainstem habitats are essential for maintaining genetic diversity and improving Bull Trout persistence;(8)the lower Snake River Basin dams preclude passage of adult White Sturgeon,constraining gene flow and recruitment;(9)the lower Snake River Basin dams impede dramatically passage of adult and juvenile Pacific Lamprey,and(10)Snake River Basin Pacific Lamprey is at high risk of *** the four lower Snake River Basin dams is an action likely to prevent extirpation and extinction of these *** from the Columbia River System can inform conservation in other impounded rivers.

Kaili Biota: A Taphonomic Window on Diversification of Metazoans from the Basal Middle Cambrian: Guizhou, China

A Burgess Shale-type biota is, in part, characterized by a wide diversity of taxa and soft-part preservation. Each provides unique historical insights into early metazoan evolution. Among the more than 40 globally distributed biotas, the early Cambrian Chengjiang and Middle Cambrian Burgess-type biotas are the largest. The Kaili Biota, from the earliest Middle Cambrian of Guizhou, China, contains representatives of 110 metazoan genera belonging to 10 phyla. It contains many well-persevered soft-bodied specimens. This Chinese biota has become the third most taxonomically diverse Burgess Shale-type fauna. Because the Kaili Biota formed in an outer-shelf environment, its main faunal character is large numbers of eocrinoids and planktoic trilobites. The Kaili is younger than the Chengjiang Biota but older than the Canadian Burgess Shale Biota; it shares 30 genera with the Chengjiang and 38 genera with the Burgess Biota. The Kaili Biota displays a taphonomic window to the diversification and evolution of marine offshore organisms covering 5.13 million years between the Early and Middle Cambrian.

目的:探讨牵张损伤时血管平滑肌细胞(A7r5)缝隙连接功能的改变及其影响因素。方法:采用细胞牵张损伤装置建立A7r5细胞损伤模型,通过细胞培养、荧光显微镜、共聚焦激光扫描显微镜荧光漂白后恢复技术检测对照组,轻度、中度和重度牵张损伤组细胞活性(Hoechst 33342和propidium iodide染色)、细胞内钙(Fluo_4/AM染色)、细胞内氧自由基(H2D-CFDA染色)和细胞间通讯功能(5_CFDA染色)的变化。结果:随着细胞牵张损伤的加重,细胞活性降低、细胞内钙及细胞内氧自由基升高、细胞间通讯功能下调。含钙缓冲液和细胞间通道阻断剂甘珀酸可使细胞通讯功能进一步下调,而Ca2+鳌合剂———乙二醇四乙酸、氧自由基清除剂———超氧化物歧化酶可使细胞通讯功能上调。结论:牵张损伤可通过细胞内钙超载和活性氧的增多来降低平滑肌细胞缝隙连接的细胞通讯功能。

Difference in the Concentration of Macro Elements between Organically and Conventionally Grown Vegetables

Although the quality of organic crops has been intensively studied for over three decades, there is still a lack of conclusive data that can prove the superiority of organic crops over conventional ones. There is no doubt that the organic food is safer due to the lack of pesticide residues;however, it is still not entirely sure whether vegetables and fruits produced in this way are better in the context of nutritional values. The study of commonly used vegetables in the European diet was performed to evaluate the difference in concentration of macro nutrients such as Ca, Mg, Na, N, K and P between organic and conventional crops. Additionally, the soil analysis was performed on the material from two growing systems. The results showed that organically cultivated vegetables had generally a higher level of macro nutrients. Also, soil samples showed higher content of these elements in the organically treated soil. From all vegetables, the highest concentrations of macro elements were found in parsley leaves and celery roots.

Integration of the metabolome and transcriptome reveals the metabolites and genes related to nutritional and medicinal value in Coriandrum sativum

Coriandrum sativum(Coriander) or Chinese parsley is a culinary herb with multiple medicinal effects, which is widely used in cooking and traditional medicine. It is enriched with essential oils and anti-oxidant compounds with unknown significance. To explore the untapped reservoir of Coriander, we studied the transcriptome and metabolic profiles from three developmental stages. Here, we identified 10 tyrosine metabolic pathway-related genes(TMPRGs), six porphyrins and chlorophyll metabolic pathway-related genes(PCMPRGs), and five Vitamin E metabolic pathway-related genes(VEMPRGs). These genes were associated with the early development of Coriander. Our analysis suggests that these pathways are involved in the production of critical phenolic metabolites. Furthermore, we constructed the interaction network between these pathway-related genes and transcription factors(TFs), which supported the regulatory pathways for phenolic metabolites. Interestingly, we identified several nutritional or medicinally relevant metabolites, including 59 phenols, two polyamines, 12 alkaloids, and one terpenoid. The higher concentrations of metabolites were from caffeic acid, agmatine, and its derivatives. We found higher levels of caffeic acid and agmatine at 30 days compared to 60 or 90 days. This study provides evidence to stimulate further investigation of the role of these metabolites in medicinal and nutritional research.
