Hepatocellular carcinoma recurrence after liver transplant:An Australian single-centre study

BAcKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma(Hcc)is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths *** transplantation(LT)offers the most effective *** recurrence is the strongest risk factor that decreases post-LT survival in patients transplanted for *** rate of Hcc recurrence is generally reported as 8%-20%in the *** predictors of Hcc have already been researched,however,to our knowledge there are no published studies on this topic using Australian *** To determine the rate and identify predictors of Hcc recurrence in a contemporary Western Australian LT *** We performed a retrospective cohort study of all liver transplants in patients with Hcc at Sir charles Gairdner Hospital between 2006 and *** was collected from various health record databases and included recipient demographics,serum biochemistry,radiology,operation notes,explant histopathology and details of *** survival of Hcc patients post-LT,stratified for recurrence,was calculated by Kaplan Meier *** and multivariate cox regression was used to determine predictors of Hcc recurrence *** Between 1/1/2006 and 12/31/2021,119 patients were transplanted with Hcc.8.4%of subjects developed recurrent Hcc after LT with median follow-up time of 5.4 *** median time to recurrence was 2.9 years±0.75 *** comparing baseline characteristics,a greater proportion of subjects with recurrence had common characteristics on explant histopathology,including>3 viable nodules(P=0.001),vascular invasion(P=0.003)and poorly differentiated Hcc(P=0.03).Unadjusted survival curves showed lower 1-year,3-year,5-year and 10-year survival rates in subjects with Hcc recurrence compared to those without Hcc recurrence(90%vs 92%,70%vs 88%,42%vs 80%,14%vs 76%,respectively;log rank PcONcLUSION Hcc recurrence was low at 8.4%in this contemporary Australian cohort,however it significantly impacted post-LT *** studies are requir

BAcKGROUND Survival in patients with autoimmune liver disease overlap syndromes(AILDOS)compared to those with single autoimmune liver disease is *** To investigate the survival of patients with AILDOS and assess the accuracy of non-invasive serum models for predicting liver-related *** Patients with AILDOS were defined as either autoimmune hepatitis and primary biliary cholangitis overlap(AIH-PBc)or autoimmune hepatitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis overlap(AIH-PSc)and were identified from three tertiary centres for this cohort ***-related death or transplantation(liver-related mortality)was determined using a population-based data linkage *** scores for liver-related death were compared for accuracy[including liver outcome score(LOS),Hepascore,Mayo Score,model for end-stage liver disease(MELD)score and MELD incorporated with serum sodium(MELD-Na)score].RESULTS Twenty-two AILDOS patients were followed for a median of 3.1 years(range,0.35-7.7).Fourteen were female,the median age was 46.7 years(range,17.8 to 82.1)and median Hepascore was 1(range,0.07-1).At five years post enrolment,57%of patients remained free from liver-related mortality(74%AIH-PBc,27%AIH-PSc).There was no significant difference in survival between AIH-PBc and *** was a significant predictor of liver-related mortality(Pc(n=14)but not AIH-PSc(n=8).A LOS cut-point of 6 discriminated liver-related mortality in AIH-PBc patients(P=0.012,log-rank test,100%sensitivity,77.8%specificity)(Harrell's c-statistic 0.867).The MELD score,MELD-Na score and Mayo Score were not predictive of liver-related mortality in any *** Survival in the rare,AILDOS is *** current study supports the LOS as a predictor of liver-related mortality in AIH-PBc *** trials investigating predictors of survival in AILDOS are required.

Improving sorghum digestion in broilers by targeting fermentation of xylan

This study was to examine if it is possible to accelerate sorghum digestion in broiler chickens by targeting fermentation of the *** 500 broilers(n=960,80 birds per treatment)were fed 12 sorghumsoybean meal-based dietary treatments fed as 3 phases(starter d 0 to 12,grower d 13 to 23,finisher d 24 to 35),with 8 replicate pens of 10 birds per *** half of the treatments(n=6),10%of the sorghum in the diet was directly replaced with 10%wheat bran,as a source of fermentable *** diets were supplemented with either 0,50 or 2,000 mg/kg xylo-oligosaccharides(XOS),with or without xylanase *** weight gain(BWG),feed intake(FI)and feed conversion corrected for mortality(cFcR)was determined at d 0 to 35,and male and female body weight were measured on d *** d 35,ileum and caeca samples were collected from 2 birds per pen,for determination of caecal cellulase and xylanase activity,microbiota composition and short chain fatty acid(ScFA)concentration,and ileal XOS *** with 2,000 mg/kg XOS caused increased BWG at d 0 to 35(P=0.007)and enhanced caecal propionic,valeric and succinic acid concentration(Pcreased FI(P=0.018)and BWG(P=0.016),as well as caecal Bifidobacteria concentration(Pconcentration was greatest when feeding combined wheat bran,2,000 mg/kg XOS,and xylanase,resulting in increased caecal total ScFA,acetic acid and butyric acid concentration,and xylanase and cellulase activity(Pciency in birds fed sorghum-based diets is improved as a consequence of supplementing with fermentable fibre,xylanase and XOS.

This paper has reviewed:(1) the two unique advantages of tandem organic solar cells(OScs) compared to single OScs;(2) the challengings as well as strategies to develop qualified interconnecting layer(IcL) for tandem *** specifically,firstly,the two key advantages unique to tandem OScs as compared to single OScs,namely minimizing sub-bandgap transmission and thermalization loss as well as realizing optical thick and electrical thin structures,have been ***,the IcL,as one of the most challenging issue in tandem OScs that needs to fulfill the optical,electrical and mechanical requirements simultaneously to realize a qualified IcL has been *** one of the most challenging requirement among the three,the electrical requirement and its corresponding three different solving strategies have been discussed in detail,revealing a bright future for developing a general strategy to realizing qualified IcL composed of different hole transporting layer(HTL) and electron transporting layer(ETL).

Metallated conjugation in small-sized-molecular donors for solution-processed organic solar cells

Four metallated conjugated oligothiophenes, S-1, S-2, S-3 and S-4, with platinum（II） aryleneethynylenes as the electron-rich building block were synthesized to investigate their physicochemical and photovoltaic properties. These small molecules possess fairly low-lying HOMO energy levels which match with the LUMO energy level of the electron acceptor Pc70BM （[6,6]-phenyl-c71-butyric acid methyl ester）. Using the simple process of spin-coating solution fabrication technique, S-I：Pc70BM （1：4, w/w） based organic solar cells exhibiting a high Voc of 0.913 V, with a PcE value of 0.88% were developed. In contrast, the OSc device based on S-2：Pc70BM （3：7, w/w） displayed a higher PcE of 1.59% with a higher Jsc value of 5.89 mA cm^-2. The device based on S-4：PcToBM （1：4, w/w） exhibited a PcE value of 1.56%, with a Voc of 0.917 V.

Organic polymer solar cells （OScs） and organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite solar cells （PScs） have achieved notable progress over the past several years. A central topic in these fields is exploring electronically efficient, stable and effective hole-transporting layer （HTL） materials. The goal is to enhance hole-collection ability, reduce charge recombination, increase built-in voltage, and hence improve the performance as well as the device stability. Transition metal oxides （TMOs） semiconductors such as NiOx, cuOx, crOx, MoOx, WO3, and V2O5, have been widely used as HTLs in OScs. These TMOs are naturally adopted into PSc as HTLs and shows their importance. There are similarities, and also differences in applying TMOs in these two types of main solution processed solar cells. This concise review is on the recent developments of transition metal oxide HTL in OScs and PScs. The paper starts from the discussion of the cation valence and electronic structure of the transition metal oxide materials, followed by analyzing the structure-property relationships of these HTLs, which we attempt to give a systematic introduction about the influences of their cation valence, electronic structure, work ftmction and film property on device performance.

Three two-dimensional like conjugated copolymers PFSDcN,PFSDTA and PFSDcNIO,which consist of alternating fluorene and triphenylamine main chain,and different pendant acceptor groups (malononitrile,1,3-diethtyl-2-thiobarbituric acid and 2-(1,2-dihydro-1-oxoinden-3-ylidene)malononitrile) with thiophene as π-bridge,have been designed,synthesized and *** structure-property relationships of the two-dimensional like conjugated copolymers were systematically *** absorption spectra,band gaps,and energy levels of the polymers were effectively tuned by simply attaching different acceptor *** the electron-withdrawing ability of the acceptors increased,the band gaps of the polymers were narrowed from 2.05 to 1.61 eV;meanwhile,the LUMO energy levels of the polymers decreased from -3.27 to -3.75 eV,whereas their relatively deep HOMO energy levels of ～-5.35 eV were *** solar cells were fabricated and characterized by using the three polymers as donor materials and the highest power conversion efficiency of 2.87% was achieved for the device based on PFSDTA:(6,6)-phenyl-c71-butyric acid methyl ester blend.

comparison of FDA safety and efficacy data for KAMRA and Raindrop corneal inlays

Extensive investigation of the passivating agents has been performed to suppress the perovskite ***,very few attentions have been paid to rationally design the passivating agents for the balance of the carrier confinement and transfer in quasi-2D perovskites,which is essential to achieve high-performance perovskite LEDs(PeLEDs).In this work,tributylphosphine oxide(TBPO)with moderate carbon chain length is demonstrated as a decent passivator for the quasi-2D perovskites by strengthening the carrier confinement for massive radiative recombination within the perovskites,and more importantly providing efficient carrier transfer in the quasi-2D *** from these interesting optoelectronic properties of TBPO-incorporated perovskites,we achieve high-efficient blue PeLEDs with an external quantum efficiency up to 11.5%and operational stability as long as 41.1 min without any shift of the electroluminescence ***,this work contributes an effective approach to promote the carrier confinement and transfer for high-performance and stable blue PeLEDs.
