Tailored optical propulsion forces for controlled transport of resonant gold nanoparticles and associated thermal convective fluid flows

Noble metal nanoparticles illuminated at their plasmonic resonance wavelength turn into heat *** phenomenon has prompted the development of numerous applications in science and *** optical manipulation of such resonant nanoparticles could certainly extend the functionality and potential applications of optothermal *** this article,we experimentally demonstrate optical transport of single and multiple resonant nanoparticles(colloidal gold spheres of radius 200 nm)directed by tailored transverse phase-gradient forces propelling them around a 2D optical *** show how the phase-gradient force can be designed to efficiently change the speed of the *** have found that multiple hot nanoparticles assemble in the form of a quasi-stable group whose motion around the laser trap is also controlled by such optical propulsion *** assembly experiences a significant increase in the local temperature,which creates an optothermal convective fluid flow dragging tracer particles into the ***,the created assembly is a moving heat source controlled by the propulsion force,enabling indirect control of fluid flows as a micro-optofluidic *** existence of these flows,probably caused by the temperature-induced Marangoni effect at the liquid water/superheated water interface,is confirmed by tracking free tracer particles migrating towards the *** propose a straightforward method to control the assembly size,and therefore its temperature,by using a nonuniform optical propelling force that induces the splitting or merging of the group of *** envision further development of microscale optofluidic tools based on these achievements.

Increasing interest has been drawn to optical manipulation of metal(plasmonic)nanoparticles due to their unique response on electromagnetic radiation,prompting numerous applications in nanofabrication,photonics,sensing,*** familiar point-like laser tweezers rely on the exclusive use of optical confinement forces that allow stable trapping of a single metal nanoparticle in 3 *** all-optical(contactless)confinement and motion control of single and multiple metal nanoparticles is one of the major challenges to be *** article reports and provides guidance on mastering a sophisticated manipulation technique harnessing confinement and propulsion forces,enabling simultaneous all-optical confinement and motion control of nanoparticles along 3 D *** an example,for the first time to our knowledge,programmable transport of gold and silver nanospheres with a radius of 50 and 30 nm,respectively,along 3 D trajectories tailored on demand,is experimentally *** has been achieved by an independent design of both types of optical forces in a single-beam laser trap in the form of a reconfigurable 3 D *** controlled motion of multiple nanoparticles,far away from chamber walls,allows studying induced electrodynamic interactions between them,such as plasmonic coupling,observed in the presented *** independent control of optical confinement and propulsion forces provides enhanced flexibility to manipulate matter with light,paving the way to new applications involving the formation,sorting,delivery,and assembling of nanostructures.

A note on the consistency of a behavioral play marker in piglets

Background： Play behavior has been proposed as a new potential indicator of animal welfare. Animals play only if they are in a relaxed state. Play may improve adaptability to challenging environments which may be of interest in the breeding objective. Little information is available on play behavior in livestock species. The aim of the present study is to investigate whether play behavior in post-weaned piglets can be induced instantly in the presence of additional space and whether play markers are body weight, sex, and litter dependent, it is investigated whether playfulness is elicited by the moment or if this measure is consistent over different days. Methods： Thirty two piglets from four litters were released into a corridor and video recorded for eight min at 37, 41, 44 and 48 d of age. The first test was considered as an adjustment period and was not included in the analysis. In the second to the fourth test, joyful brusque movements （jumping, turning and running） were recorded with a camera and total number of movements （JOY#） and total time （JOYtime） were estimated individually. Animals were weighed at 41 d of age. Results： Females had higher scores of JOY# and JOYtime than males but this was significant only for JOY# at 41 d of age （P 〈 0.05）. The effect of age was highly significant both for JOY# and JOYtime （P 〈 0.01）. Animals with a higher JOY# and JOYtime also expressed a higher JOY# and JOYtime in the other tests, but this was significant only between 44 and 48 d of age （P〈 0.01）. Body weight at 41 d of age was not significantly related to JOY# and JQYtime in any of the tests. Conclusions： Locomotor play was induced instantly by the provision of increased space allowance. Litter origin had a significant effect on play behavior. In addition, locomotor play scores were consistent between two of the three tests.

Tourism versus nature conservation: reconciliation of common interests and objectives——an analysis through Picos de Europa National Park

Nature tourism and particularly tourism in national parks have acquired significant importance in contemporary societies. Post-Fordist consumers have reevaluated the meanings of ‘nature' and ‘natural spaces' and now avoid standardization to seek singularity. Tourism in national parks is a consequence of this tendency and has both positive and negative aspects. The purpose of this sociological research is to describe the most relevant conflicts in the Picos de Europa National Park(Spain) involving the park's conservation, local economic development,and tourism. Seven in-depth interviews and three focus groups were addressed to key local *** this research were identified three chief areas of existing or potential inter-related conflicts and the main actors interacting with them. The first is on population, particularly, the negative consequences of depopulations on the local socio-economic development and the environment. A second source of conflicts identified is caused by the difficult conciliation between commercial exploitation and conservation of the protected natural area. More precisely, this specific form of tourism positively contributes to the economy of local communities whilst problems can arise for the conservation goals of National Parks. Thirdly, in this research is also analyzed the institutional governance and the inter and intra-governmental conflicts as well as with the Park's management body. These findings provide important information for the improved management of tourism and conflicting interests in natural parks.

We construct the maximal graded left quotient algebra of every graded algebra A without homogeneous total right zero divisors as the direct limit of graded homomorphisms （of left A-modules） from graded dense left ideals of A into a graded left quotient algebra of A. In the case of a superalgebra, and with some extra hypothesis, we prove that the component in the neutral element of the group of the maximal graded left quotient algebra coincides with the maximal left quotient algebra of the component in the neutral element of the group of the superalgebra.

The potential leaching and mobilization of trace elements from FGD-gypsum of a coal-fired power plant under water re-circulation conditions

Experimental and geochemical modelling studies were carried out to identify mineral and solid phases containing major, minor, and trace elements and the mechanism of the retention of these elements in Flue Gas Desulphurisation（FGD）-gypsum samples from a coal-fired power plant under filtered water recirculation to the scrubber and forced oxidation conditions. The role of the p H and related environmental factors on the mobility of Li, Ni, Zn, As, Se, Mo, and U from FGD-gypsums for a comprehensive assessment of element leaching behaviour were also carried out. Results show that the extraction rate of the studied elements generally increases with decreasing the p H value of the FGD-gypsum leachates. The increase of the mobility of elements such as U, Se, and As in the FGD-gypsum entails the modification of their aqueous speciation in the leachates; UO2SO4, H2 Se, and HAs O2 are the aqueous complexes with the highest activities under acidic *** speciation of Zn, Li, and Ni is not affected in spite of p H changes; these elements occur as free cations and associated to SO4 ^2 in the FGD-gypsum leachates. The mobility of Cu and Mo decreases by decreasing the p H of the FGD-gypsum leachates, which might be associated to the precipitation of Cu Se2 and Mo Se2, respectively. Time-of-Flight mass spectrometry of the solid phase combined with geochemical modelling of the aqueous phase has proved useful in understanding the mobility and geochemical behaviour of elements and their partitioning into FGD-gypsum samples.
