Long-term response of living forest biomass to extensive logging in subtropical China

Forest disturbance and recovery are critical ecosystem processes,but the temporal patterns of disturbance have not been studied in subtropical *** a tree-ring analysis approach,we studied post-logging above-ground(ABG)biomass recovery dynamics over a 26-year period in four plots with different degrees of logging *** logging,the ABG biomass ranged from 291 to 309 t *** after logging,the plots in primary forest,secondary forest,mixed forest and singlespecies forest had lost 33,91,90 and 100%of their initial ABG biomass,***-six years after logging,the plots had regained 147,62,80 and 92%of their original ABG biomass,*** the 26 years following logging,the mean CAI(Current annual increment)were 10.1,5.5,6.4 and 10.8 t ha^-1 a^-1 and the average MAI(Mean annual increment)8.7,2.5,5.6 and 7.8 t ha^-1 a^-1 for the four forest types,*** results indicate that subtropical forests subjected to moderate logging or disturbances do not require intensive management and single-species plantings can rapidly restore the above-ground biomass to levels prior to heavy logging.

Successive Picket Drive for Mitigating the Ablative Richtmyer–Meshkov Instability

The ablative Richtmyer–Meshkov instability(ARMI) is crucial to the successful ignition implosion of the inertial confinement fusion(ICF) because of its action as the seed of the Rayleigh–Taylor instability. In usual ICF implosions, the first shock driven by various foots of the pulses plays a central role in the ARMI growth. We propose a new scheme for refraining from ARMI with a pulse of successive pickets. With the successive-picket pulse design, a rippled capsule surface is compressed by three successive shocks with sequentially strengthening intensities and ablated stabilization, and the ablative Richtmyer–Meshkov growth is mitigated quite *** numerical simulations and theoretical analyses identify the validity of this scheme.

The expressions of heat of evaporation for metals at different temperatures were deduced from Clausius-Clapeyron equation and the total change of *** of Pb,Cd and Zn were *** showed that theoretic energy consumption decreased a little with the decrease of e-vaporation temperature,which can be used to determine the energy demand while these metals are distilled at different process temperatures and pressures.

Protocol of Jidong Women Health Cohort Study: Rationale, Design, and Baseline Characteristics

Objective The Jidong Women Health Cohort Study is a prospective cohort study on female-specific characteristics and risks of chronic diseases in Chinese women and focuses on the potential association between menopause and risks of cardiovascular disease(CVD). Methods The study includes 4,179 female participants with an age of older than 18 years from Caofeidian district, Tangshan city, northern China. Baseline information on female-specific characteristics and potential cardiovascular risk factors was collected and all the participants underwent a physical examination with blood samples collected in 2013. To establish a better risk assessment tool of female CVD, updated information from questionnaire investigation, physical examinations and occurrence of outcome events will be collected through a longitudinal follow-up annually up to the year 2024. Results At baseline, Mean age of the participants was 42.3 ± 12.8 years. Reproduction occurred in 2,948 participants(70.5%), menopausal transition in 173(4.3%), and postmenopause in 1,058(25.3%). The incidence of arterial hypertension, dyslipidemia, and diabetes showed significant difference across different groups stratified by Stage of Reproductive Aging Workshop(STRAW) system(P < 0.05). Conclusion The Jidong Women Health Cohort Study will contribute to the scientific evidence on association between female-specific characteristics and cardiovascular risks, and will also be helpful to provide a new path for early detection and prevention of CVD.

A concise synthesis of racemic Tapentadol and its stereoisomers was presented. The key step was a TiCl4·THF2-catalzyed aza-Bellus-Claisen rearrangement to create two vicinal tertiary carbon stereogenic centers. The subsequent reduction of amide and hydrogenation of alkene delivered Tapentadol and its stereoisomers, The current approach offers a practical synthetic route to access this class of pharmaceutically significant molecules.

The Leu477 and Leu613 of ORF2-Encoded Protein Are Critical in Forming Neutralization Antigenic Epitope of Hepatitis E Virus Genotype 4

Hepatitis E virus （HEV） genotype 4 was originally identified in China. Its neutralization antigenic epitopes have not been characterized. Recently, we identified a neutralizing monoclonal antibody （mAb） IG10, which was generated following immunization of mice with p166Chn, a recombinant protein comprising 464-629 amino acids （aa） of the HEV genotype 4 capsid protein. In this study, a panel of 22 N- and/or C-terminal truncated and 6 site-directed mutated p166Chn proteins were prepared. Only those N- or C-terminal truncated proteins containing the region 477-613 aa could react with the mAb 1G10, suggesting the neutralization epitope of HEV genotype 4 is located between aa477 and aa613. However, a both N- and C-terminal truncated protein, pN477-C613, neither reacted to 1G10 nor elicited neutralizing antibodies in mice, while another both terminal truncated protein, pN472-C617, did, suggesting the flanking regions of the pN477-C613 could help to stabilize and allow presentation of the neutralization epitope to the immune system. Substituting Leu477 and/or Leu613 with the polar, uncharged threonine （Thr） caused 〉 50% reduction of the mutants＇ immunoreactivity to IG10, whereas replacement by hydrophobic phenylalanine （Phe） made little impact on the immunoreactivity, revealing functional associations between hydrophobicity of aa at positions 477 and 613 and the antigenicity of p166Chn. These data suggested Leu477 and Leu613 are critical in forming the neutralization epitope of HEV genotype 4. Cellular ＆ Molecular Immunology. 2008;5（6）：447-456.

Preparation and Properties of Poly(aryl ether sulfone ketone)Ultrafiltration Membrane Containing Fluorene Group for High Temperature Condensed Water Treatment

Novel poly（aryl ether sulfone ketone）s （PAESK） were synthesized from bisphenol A （BPA）, 9,9＇-bis（4-hydroxyphenyl） fluorene （BHPF）, 4,4＇-dichlorodiphenylsulfone （DCS） and 4,4＇-difluorobenzophenone （DFB） via nucleophilic substitution polymerization, which were subsequently used to fabricate ultrafiltration membrane by phase-inversion method for high temperature condensed water treatment. The obtained high molecular weight co-polymers with fluorene group with good solubility and good thermal stability, can be easily cast into flexible, white and non-transparent fiat films. The influence of molar ratio of BPA and BHPF on the properties of the prepared co-polymers and membranes was investigated in detail. SEM study of the morphology of the membranes indicated that the prepared membranes possessed homogeneous pores on the top surface and were sponge-like or finger-like in cross-section. Pure water flux of the membranes increased from 71.87 L·m-2.h-1 to 247.65 L·m-2.h-1, while the retention of BSA decreased slightly, and the water contact angle decreased from 82.1 ° to 55.6° with the PVP concentration from 0 wt% to 10 wt%. With increasing concentration of PVP, the mechanical properties of membranes decreased, while the thermal stability increased. The permeate flux measurement showed that the PAESK membrane had the potential for high temperature condensed water treatment.

Strong quartic anharmonicity,ultralow thermal conductivity,high band degeneracy and good thermoelectric performance in Na_(2)TlSb

We employ first-principles calculations combined with self-consistent phonon theory and Boltzmann transport equations to investigate the thermal transport and thermoelectric properties of full-Heusler compound Na_(2)*** findings exhibit that the strong quartic anharmonicity and temperature dependence of the Tl atom with rattling behavior plays an important role in the lattice stability of Na_(2)*** find that soft Tl-Sb bonding and resonant bonding in the pseudocage composed of the Na and Sb atoms interaction is responsible for ultralowκ***,the multi-valley band structure increases the band degeneracy,results in a high power factor in p-type Na_(2)*** coexistence of ultralowκL and high power factor presents that Na_(2)TlSb is a potential candidate for thermoelectric ***,these findings help to understand the origin of ultralowκL of full-Heusler compounds with strong quartic anharmonicity,leading to the rational design of full-Heusler compounds with high thermoelectric performance.
