Apatite Loss in Pothwar Loess Plain(Pakistan) Fits a Simple Linear Reservoir Model

Apatite is the dominant phosphorus(P) mineral in early stages of soil development, and its redistribution as labile forms under pedogenesis controls terrestrial bioavailability. Quantitative distribution of labile forms of P and apatite-P was examined in Pothwar Loess Plain, Pakistan where the degree of pedogenesis varied with relief. Four soil types, Typic Ustorthents(Rajar), Typic Calciustepts(Missa), Udic Calciustepts(Basal), and Udic Haplustalfs(Guliana), were sampled from three replicated locations at genetic horizon level. With the exception of total P value at surface, the mean total and apatite-P decreased towards the surface in Udic Haplustalfs and Udic Calciustepts where dicalcium and octacalcium phosphate increased toward surface. Iron(oxides and oxyhydroxides) adsorbed and occluded P forms were also in greater quantities in Udic Haplustalfs and increased toward the surface, whereas they were lowest and uniform in the Typic Ustorthents. Aluminum- and organic P correlated with soil organic matter. Apatite-P decreased exponentially with an increase in the sum of iron adsorbed and occluded P fractions, and fitted the equation M(x)= M0 [1- exp(-wx)] with r2= 0.996, where M(x)is the mean apatite-P concentration in solum, M0 is the apatite-P content in the loess sediments, x is the cumulative iron adsorbed and occluded P, and w is an empirical factor indicating the change rate of apatite-P in the loess. From the calculated apatite-P of 740 mg kg-1at the time of deposition, mean apatite-P loss was 60% in Udic Haplustalfs, 33% in Udic Calciustepts, 23% in Typic Calciustepts, and 8% in Typic Ustorthents. The transformation of soil P to labile forms was faster and deeper in level or slight depressions followed by gently sloping areas in wide plains, and was the least in the gullied land.

This paper presents a block-based secure and robust watermarking technique for color images based on multi-resolution decomposition and *** principal objective of the presented scheme is to simultaneously meet all the four requirements(robustness,security,imperceptibility,and capacity)of a good watermarking *** contribution of this study is to basically achieve the four contradictory requirements that a good watermarking scheme must *** do so,different approaches are combined in a way that the four requirements are *** instance,to obtain imperceptibility,the three color channels(red,green,and blue)are de-correlated using principal component analysis,and the first principal component(de-correlated red channel)is chosen for watermark ***,to achieve robustness,the de-correlated channel is decomposed using a discrete wavelet transform(DWT),and the approximate band(the other three bands are kept intact to preserve the edge information)is further decomposed into distinct *** random blocks are chosen based on a random generated *** random selected blocks are further broken down into singular values and *** on the mutual dependency on singular values and vectors’matrices,the values are modified depending on the watermarking bits,and their locations are saved and used as another key,required when the watermark is to be ***,two-level authentication levels ensure the security,and using both singular values and vectors increases the capacity of the presented ***,the involvement of both left and right singular vectors along with singular values in the watermarking embedding process strengthens the robustness of the proposed ***,to compare the presented scheme with the state-of-the-art schemes in terms of imperceptibility(peak signal-to-noise ratio and structural similarity index),security(with numerous fake keys),robustness(normalized correlation and bit error rate)

Post-operative visual outcomes based on morphological staging of idiopathic epiretinal membranes on OCT

Co-treatment with pegylated interferon alfa-2a and entecavir for hepatitis D: a randomized trial

AIM: To investigate the efficacy of pegylated interferon alfa(PEG-IFNα) therapy with and without entecavir in patients with chronic hepatitis D. METHODS: Forty hepatitis D virus(HDV) RNA positive patients were randomized to receive either PEG-IFNα-2a 180 μg weekly in combination with entecavir 0.5 mg daily(n = 21) or PEG-IFNα alone(n =19). Patients who failed to show 2 log reduction in HDV RNA level at 24 wk of treatment, or had detectable HDV RNA at 48 wk of therapy were considered as treatment failure. Treatment was continued for 72 wk in the rest of the patients. All the patients were followed for 24 wk post treatment. Intention to treat analysis was ***: The mean age of the patients was 26.7 ± 6.8 years, 31 were male. Two log reduction in HDV RNA levels at 24 wk of therapy was achieved in 9(43%) patients receiving combination therapy and 12(63%) patients receiving PEG-IFNα alone(P = 0.199). Decline in hepatitis B surface antigen(HBs Ag) levels was insignificant. At the end of treatment, HDV RNA was negative in 8 patients(38%) receiving combination therapy and 10 patients(53%) receiving PEG-IFNα-2a alone. Virological response persisted in 7(33%) and 8(42%) patients, respectively at the end of the 24 wk follow-up period. One responder patient in the combination arm lost HBs Ag and became hepatitis B surface antibody positive. Six out of 14 baseline hepatitis B e antigen reactive patients seroconverted and four of these seroconverted patients had persistent HDV RNA ***: Administration of PEG-IFNα-2a with or without entecavir, resulted in persistent HDV RNA clearance in 37% of patients. The addition of entecavir did not improve the overall response.

随着保护性耕作的不断发展,实际作业中对旋耕刀性能要求愈发严格,该文在国标旋耕刀基础上,将正、侧切削刃上设计成锯齿状,然后考察实际作业过程中功耗、受力以及作业质量,检测仿鼹鼠足趾排列的旋耕-秸秆粉碎锯齿刀片的田间作业功耗和作业质量。针对该锯齿刀片和国标旋耕刀片在有秸秆颗粒和无秸秆颗粒下进行仿真分析,对比可知:在有秸秆颗粒下,由于刀具要与秸秆接触并发生挤压和剪切作用,从而导致受力以及扭矩值较大。结合理论分析,利用扭矩传感器对仿生锯齿刀和国标旋耕刀进行田间试验。根据0.5 m×0.5 m地表设置不同质量秸秆,分别为0、0.375和0.75 kg(0%、50%、100%),测定拖拉机输出扭矩以及功耗,并依照国标测试方法测定作业质量。田间试验得到扭矩与仿真变化趋势一致。当地表无秸秆和地表含50%秸秆时,锯齿刀片扭矩分别为404.05和438.33 N·m;国标旋耕刀片上扭矩分别为389.27和443.79 N·m。当地表秸秆质量分数为100%时,锯齿刀和国标旋耕刀片上扭矩分别为557.92和507.34 N·m。耕作后地表秸秆和土壤评价结果显示:不同质量含量秸秆覆盖下,仿生锯齿刀耕作后的秸秆掩埋率、土壤破碎率、长度≤15 cm秸秆比例等方面都优于国标旋耕刀。田间试验和仿真结果都显示当地表覆盖秸秆量为0%和100%时,仿生锯齿刀的扭矩高于国标旋耕刀。虽然仿生锯齿刀只在秸秆覆盖量为50%时扭矩与功耗优于国标旋耕刀,但在3种秸秆覆盖量下仿生锯齿刀的耕后地表质量都明显优于国标旋耕刀。综上考虑,在实际作业中,可适当收集田间秸秆。该研究为实现只应用一种刀片来完成旋耕和秸秆粉碎2种不同作业目标提供了参考。

Properties Evaluation of Concrete using Local Used Bricks as Coarse Aggregate

With time concrete / reinforced concrete has become the popular material for construction. Modern industry utilizes this material a lot and has produced various beautiful, eye catching and amazing structures. Due to modern requirements for living and developed construction industries, the old buildings (usually constructed with brick masonry) are demolished and are replaced with new modern buildings. Demolition of buildings results in waste materials which can create waste related problems and environmental issues. By using recycled aggregates weight of concrete can also be reduced, which can also solve problems related to self-weight of concrete. In this paper attempt has been made to use local used bricks from vicinity of Nawabshah, Pakistan, as coarse aggregate. Concrete cubes made with local recycled bricks are cast and tested for overall weight of concrete, moisture content, dynamic modulus of elasticity and compressive strength (nondestructive and destructive methods). The results showed that concrete derived from recycled aggregates attained lower strength than regular concrete. More detailed elaborated work is recommended with different mix ratios and different proportions recycled aggregates for better conclusions.

Energy Efficient Content Based Image Retrieval in Sensor Networks

The presence of increased memory and computational power in imaging sensor networks attracts researchers to exploit image processing algorithms on distributed memory and computational power. In this paper, a typical perimeter is investigated with a number of sensors placed to form an image sensor network for the purpose of content based distributed image search. Image search algorithm is used to enable distributed content based image search within each sensor node. The energy model is presented to calculate energy efficiency for various cases of image search and transmission. The simulations are carried out based on consideration of continuous monitoring or event driven activity on the perimeter. The simulation setups consider distributed image processing on sensor nodes and results show that energy saving is significant if search algorithms are embedded in image sensor nodes and image processing is distributed across sensor nodes. The tradeoff between sensor life time, distributed image search and network deployed cost is also investigated.

Predictability of Surgical Apgar Score for postoperative outcomes in hip fractures: A prospective observational study

Objective:To assess the utility and validation of the Surgical Apgar Score(SAS)in predicting postoperative complications of hip ***:This prospective observational study included patients who received operations for hip fractures from 1st March 2017 to 30th June 2018 at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery,Liaquat National Hospital and Medical *** were followed at the outpatient department,and complications and mortality were recorded through phone *** predictability of SAS for postoperative complications was ***:SAS≤4 was found as a significant predictor for postoperative pulmonary(P=0.008)and cardiac complications(P=0.042)as well as blood transfusion required to optimize postoperative hemoglobin(P=0.03)in the patients with hip ***:SAS provides reliable feedback information about patients'postoperative risk during the *** fracture patients with scores≤4 should be monitored for major complications both during the hospital admission and after the discharge.

Parenteral nutrition-associated liver disease(PNALD)is a liver dysfunction caused by various risk factors presented in patients receiving total parenteral nutrition(TPN).Omega-6 rich Intralipid?and omega-3 rich Omegaven?are two intravenous lipid emulsions used in *** could affect the hepatic expression of genes in anti-oxidative stress,but it’s unknown whether TPN affects genes in drug *** this study,either Intralipid?-or Omegaven?-based TPN was administered to mice and the expression of a cohort of genes involved in anti-oxidative stress or drug metabolism was analyzed,glutathione(GSH)levels were measured,and protein levels for two key drug metabolism geneswere ***,the expression of most genes was downregulated by Intralipid?-based TPN(Gstpl,Gstml,3,6,Nqol,Ho-1,Mt-1,Gclc,Gclm,Cyp2d9,2f2,2b 10,and 3a11).Omegaven?showed similar results as Intralipid?except for preserving the expression of Gstml and Cyp3a11,and increasing *** GSH levels were decreased by Intralipid?,but increased by Omegaven?.CYP3A11 protein levels were increased by Omegaven?.In conclusion,TPN reduced the expression of many genes involved in anti-oxidative stress and drug metabolism in ***,Omegaven?preserved expression of Cyp3a11,suggesting another beneficial effect of Omegaven?in protecting liver functions.
