Objective Benzophenone semicarbazone(BSC) was synthesized and characterized to identify compounds with anticancer activities. Methods Anticancer activities were studied against Ehrlich Ascites Carcinoma(EAC) cells in Swiss albino mice by monitoring parameters such as tumor weight measurement,survival time of tumor bearing mice,tumor cell growth inhibition,and so *** hematological parameters,such as red blood cells,white blood cells,and hemoglobin content,were also measured. Results The results showed that BSC has a positive effect against EAC *** assessment was conducted by comparing these results with those obtained using the standard drug bleomycin. Conclusions The BSC compound can be considered as a potent anticancer agent.

Objective:To evaluate the anticancer activity of vanillin semicarbazone(VSC) against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma(EAC) cells in Swiss albino ***:The compound VSC at three doses(5, 7.5 and 10 mg/kg i.p.) was administered into the intraperitoneal cavity of the EAC inoculated mice to observe its efficiency by studying the cell growth inhibition, reduction of tumour weight,enhancement of survival time as well as the changes in depleted hematological parameters. Allsuch parameters were also studied with a known standard drug bleomycin at the dose of 0.3 mg/kg(i.p.).Results:Among the doses studied, 10 mg/kg(i.p.) was found to be quite comparable in potency to that of bleomycin at the dose of 0.3 mg/kg(i.p.). The host toxic effects of VSC was found to be ***:It can be concluded that VSC can therefore be considered as potent anticancer agent.

Objective:To study the anticancer activities of three schiff bases *** thiosemicarbazone,benzophenone thiosemicarbazone and acetophenone thiosemicarbazone against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma(EAC)cells in Swiss albino ***:Synthesized compounds have administrated into the intraperitoneal cavity of the EAC inoculated mice at two *** anticancer activities have studied by monitoring the parameters such as cell growth inhibition,tumor weight measurement,survival time of EAC bearing mice as well as the changes in depleted hematological parameters due to *** such data have been compared with those of a known standard drug bleomycin at the dose of 0.3 mg/kg(i.p.).Results:It has been found that these bases enhanced life span,reduced average tumor weight and inhibited tumor cell growth of EAC cell bearing mice *** results were similar in potency to those obtained with *** was also found that the depleted hematological parameters(red blood count,white blood count and haemoglobin content)were found to be restored gradually towards normal within few weeks after ceasing the ***:The compounds can be primarily considered more or less as potent anticancer agents.

Isolation and structural elucidation of antifungal compounds from Curcuma amada

Objective: To isolate and identify the antifungal compounds from Curcuma amada. Methods: The antifungal activity was measured by the diameter of colonies grown on Petri dish,microscopic observation,and CLSI microdilution methods. The antifungal compounds were isolated through bioactivity guided purification by using silica gel and high-performance liquid chromatography. Structural identification of the antifungal compounds was conducted using 1 H NMR,13 C NMR,and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Results: The purified antifungal compounds were zederone and furanodienone. These two compounds showed dose-dependent antifungal activity against Fusarium solani sensu lato. The concentration required for 50% growth inhibition(IC50) of FSSL ranged from 115 to 129 μM and 82 to 91 μM for zederone and furanodienone,respectively. Conclusion: This study suggested that the isolated compounds from Curcuma amada could be promising natural antifungal agents to control the diseases caused by Fusarium solani sensu lato.

This paper attempts to explore how Shylock in William Shakespeare＇s The Merchant of Venice （1995） and Heathcliff in Emily Bronte＇s Wuthering Heights （2003） were victimized who became victimizer later to heal their wound and compensate their loss and how they were victimized in turn in doing so. Shylock was victimized by the Christian society along with his own. His daughter left him in favor of the Christians. He later became a victimizer but was ironically victimized in turn in wreaking vengeance on his foes in the court. Similarly, Heathcliffs true spiritual love was rejected by His Catherine, neglected by everyone, physically and mentally abused. Later, he wreaked vengeance upon his foes but was victimized to death in turn. Shylock entered the court as a victimizer but left it as a victimized individual just as Heathcliff entered the Heights, after self-imposed exile, as a victimizer and left it as a victimized individual for good. Therefore, both of them experienced a cycle of victimization.

A microwave mediated solvent free one pot synthesis of formazans is developed using the solid acid, KHSO4. The products were obtained in a short reaction time in high yield. This study was undertaken to find an alternative and green method for the synthesis of formazans in the absence of corrosive mineral acids, buffered solutions and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

This paper attempts to analyze Paul Morel＇s instinctual drives--in D. H. Lawrence＇s Sons and Lovers （2006}---toward survival, neurotic refusal to accept life, and his will to give life meaning after a fierce and prolonged internal strife--in the light of psychoanalysis. It will explore how his ＂Id＂ strives to bring about the satisfaction of instinctual needs on the basis of the pleasure principle driving him to seek pleasure. His ＂libido＂--psychic energy, emanating from the id, especially the sexual urge--has empowered his ＂Eros＂ or life instinct. It will also explore how ＂Thanatos＂ or death instinct, in contrast, has yearned for an almost lifeless state and curbed entering into human relationships as experienced in his last rejection of Miriam after his mother＇s death leaving a great trauma on Paul who has been on the verse of extinction as a result. Therefore, Eros and Thanatos, both coincide and conflict within him, are dynamically involved and thus are interacted infusing life not stagnation in Paulin consequence

This paper attempts to analyze Blanche＇s psyche in relation to her employing defense mechanism to restore her mental health and herself in A Streetcar Named Desire （1947） by the American playwright Tennessee Williams. It focuses on her replacing reality with fantastic embodiments or illusion. She has taken unacceptable impulses into acceptable forms by unconsciously blocking the impulses such as superego and thereby reducing agony for the earlier traumatic experiences left indelible marks on her mind, and anxiety for survival. Her anxiety becomes too overwhelming that her ego urgently employs defense mechanisms to protect her. With her new hopes and dreams she desires to replace the highly stressful loss. Under mental and social stress, her illusion and her falsification of reality nevertheless became unable to overcome recurring trauma-causing situation in reality and her healing process thereby leaving her on the verge of extinction.

This paper attempts to demonstrate Hester Prynne＇s, in Nathaniel Hawthorne＇s romantic work of fiction The Scarlet Letter （1994）, sublimation of her sexual impulses into identifying with the socially acceptable humanitarian actions, and societal demands in order to avoid the confrontation with the scorn of the people of Boston, her sexual urge, and with her weakness. Hester＇s libidinal energy was channeled into socially approved activities in her self-devoted years that made up her identity and reality. The scarlet letter ceased to be a stigma which once attracted the world＇s scorn and bitterness, later looked upon with reverence, and transformed into a thing to be sorrowed over. She had not ignored a large part of reality of her life （the past and present）. If she ignored her past she would entirely detach it from the present. She integrated her stigma into her life in the continual process of self-making, and thereby projecting herself into the future
