This work shows that despite a lattice mismatch of.almost 20%, CdMnTe/CdTe/CdMnTe heterostructures g.own directly on Si(111) have surprising.y g.od optical emission properties. The investig.ted structures were g.own by molecular beam epitaxy and characterized by scanning.transmission electron microscopy, macro-and micro-photoluminescence. Low temperature macro-photoluminescence experiments indicate three emission bands which depend on the CdTe layer thickness and have dif.erent conf.nement characteristics. Temperature measurements reveal that the lower energ. emission band (at 1.48 eV)is associated to def.cts and bound exciton states, while the main emission at 1.61 eV has a weak 2D character and the hig.er energ. one at 1.71 eV has a well-def.ned (zero-dimensional, 0D) 0D nature. Micro-photoluminescence measurements show the existence of.sharp and strong.y circularly polarized (up to 40%) emission lines which can be related to the presence of.Mn in the heterostructure. This result opens the possibility of.producing.photon sources with the typical spin control of.the diluted mag.etic semiconductors using.the low-cost silicon technolog..

Obtaining.hig. precision is an important consideration f.r astrometric studies using.imag.s f.om the Narrow Ang.e Camera(NAC)of.the Cassini Imag.ng.Science Subsystem(ISS).Selecting.the best centering.alg.rithm is key to enhancing.astrometric *** this study,we compared the accuracy of.f.ve centering.alg.rithms:g.ussian f.tting.the modif.ed moments method,and three point-spread f.nction(PSf.f.tting.methods(ef.ective PSf.ePSf.,PSf.x,and extended PSf.x PSf.f.om the Cassini Imag.ng.Central Laboratory f.r Operations(CICLOPS)).We assessed these alg.rithms using.70 ISS NAC star f.eld imag.s taken with CL1 and CL2 f.lters across dif.erent stellar *** ePSf.method consistently demonstrated the hig.est accuracy,achieving.precision below 0.03 pixels f.r stars of.mag.itude *** to the previously considered best,the modif.ed moments method,the e PSf.method improved overall accuracy by about 10%and 21%in the sample and line directions,***,the xPSf.model provided by CICLOPS had lower precision than the ***,the ePSf.exhibits an improvement in measurement precision of.23%and 17%in the sample and line directions,respectively,over the *** discrepancy mig.t be attributed to the xPSf.f.cusing.on photometry rather than *** f.nding. hig.lig.t the necessity of.constructing.PSf.models specif.cally tailored f.r astrometric purposes in NAC imag.s and provide g.idance f.r enhancing.astrometric measurements using.these ISS NAC imag.s.

The search f.r new biomarkers predictive of.type 2 diabetes currently constitutes a research avenue in Bioclinical. Total homocysteine remains a pref.rred targ.t due to its involvement in the occurrence of.deg.nerative complications in type 2 diabetics. The aim of.this work was to study hyperhomocysteinemia and other biochemical markers associated with T2D in the Cong.lese population. This was an analytical case-control study carried out between October 2022 and October 2023. The study population consisted of.150 subjects including.100 T2D patients and 50 control subjects. The main clinical data were collected on a pre-established f.rm. Homocysteine determination was carried out by the sandwich ELISA method. The other biochemical markers were measured by colorimetric enzymatic methods. Hyperhomocysteinemia was present in 27.3% (41/150) of.the entire study population. Type 2 diabetics had a f.equency of.hyperhomocysteinemia of.36% (36/100) and control 10% (5/50) (p = 0.001). The mean hyperhomocysteinemia concentration was 31.9 μmol/l with extremes rang.ng.f.om 18 to 103 μmol/l. Means of.biolog.cal markers between diabetics and controls showed a statistically sig.if.cant dif.erence (p = 0.01). The risk f.ctors associated with this HHcy were: sex (OR = 3.5), ag. (OR = 9.4), sedentary lif.style (OR = 3.4) and g.ycosylated hemog.obin (OR = 12) with a p-value g.est that hyperhomocysteinemia can be considered as a predictive biomarker in the bioclinic of.Cong.lese type 2 diabetic patients.

Two-Stream Approximation to the Radiative Transf.r Equation:A New Improvement and Comparative Accuracy with Existing.Methods

Mathematical modeling.of.the interaction between solar radiation and the Earth's atmosphere is f.rmalized by the radiative transf.r equation(RTE), whose resolution calls f.r two-stream approximations among.other methods. This paper proposes a new two-stream approximation of.the RTE with the development of.the phase f.nction and the intensity into a third-order series of.Leg.ndre polynomials. This new approach, which adds one more term in the expression of.the intensity and the phase f.nction, allows in the conditions of.a plane parallel atmosphere a new mathematical f.rmulation of.γparameters. It is then compared to the Edding.on, Hemispheric Constant, Quadrature, Combined Delta f.nction and Modif.ed Edding.on, and second-order approximation methods with ref.rence to the Discrete Ordinate(Disort) method(δ –128 streams), considered as the most precise. This work also determines the conversion f.nction of.the proposed New Method using.the f.ndamental def.nition of.two-stream approximation(f.TSA) developed in a previous work. Notably,New Method has g.nerally better precision compared to the second-order approximation and Hemispheric Constant methods. Compared to the Quadrature and Edding.on methods, New Method shows very g.od precision f.r wide domains of.the zenith ang.e μ 0, but tends to deviate f.om the Disort method with the zenith ang.e, especially f.r hig. values of.optical thickness. In spite of.this diverg.nce in ref.ectance f.r hig. values of.optical thickness, very strong.correlation with the Disort method(R ≈ 1) was obtained f.r most cases of.optical thickness in this study. An analysis of.the Leg.ndre polynomial series f.r simple f.nctions shows that the hig. precision is due to the f.ct that the approximated f.nctions ameliorate the accuracy when the order of.approximation increases, althoug. it has been proven that there is a limit order depending.on the f.nction f.om which the precision is lost. Backg.ound: Sag.ttal plane placement of.the tibial component in total knee replacement (TKR) has important implications f.r maximizing.the rang. of.f.exion motion, allowing.collateral lig.ments to f.nction more normally, as well as providing.ideal compressive loading.on the tibial bone-prosthesis interf.ce. This study attempts to quantif. the normal posterior tibial slope (PTS) ang.e pre-operatively and post-operatively in osteoarthritic patients af.er using.a conventional extramedullary tibial resection g.ide to assess its ef.ectiveness. Methods: f.rty-nine primary cementless total knee replacements in 34 osteoarthritic patients were measured radiog.aphically pre-operatively and one year post-operatively to determine the PTS and its ef.ect on rang. of.motion. Lateral X-rays, using.the anterior cortical line of.the tibia, were employed f.r all measurements. Results: Pre-operative PTS measured 11.83˚ (rang. 5˚ - 18˚), while post-operative PTS of.implanted tibial components measured 11.30o (rang. 4˚ - 18˚). The pre-operative rang. of.motion of.112˚ (rang. 30˚ to 135˚) was improved to 119˚ (rang. 90˚ to 135˚) post-operatively af.er 1 year. Conclusions: Anterior tibial shaf. ref.rencing.using.a conventional extramedullary tibial resection g.ide provides an easy and convenient method f.r reproducing.the anatomical PTS during.TKR. This methodolog. provided improvement in averag. rang. of.motion f.om 112˚ pre-operatively to 119˚ post-operatively at one year.
