Relationship between the Stratospheric Arctic Vortex and Surface Air Temperature in the Midlatitudes of the Northern Hemisphere

It is known that different relationships exist between the strength and displacement of the stratospheric polar vortex(SPV),and the surface air temperature(SAT)patterns in Eurasia and North America,but the mechanisms behind these relationships remain unclear,especially on an interannual *** on empirical orthogonal function(EOF)analysis using NCEP reanalysis data over 1958–2018,this study attempts to ascertain the relationship between the SPV intensity and displacement over the Arctic and the SATs in the midlatitudes of the Northern *** results indicate that a strengthened SPV corresponds to an SAT increase in Eurasia and a decrease in eastern North America and *** the SPV is shifted towards Eurasia,however,a corresponding SAT increase occurs in both North America and Eurasia,with a larger increase in North America than in ***,a strengthened SPV tends to correspond to a positive North Atlantic Oscillation-like circulation in the troposphere with negative geopotential height(GH)anomalies in Greenland and eastern North American continent and positive GH anomalies to the north of 45°N in Eurasia,which corresponds to lower SATs in North America than in ***,when the SPV shifted towards Eurasia,it was accompanied by a positive Pacific/North American-like pattern with a deepened Aleutian low,which corresponds to the increasing SATs in North *** tropospheric circulation changes are related to the response of tropospheric planetary wave activity to the SPV.A strengthened SPV corresponds to the weakening of tropospheric planetary wave-1 waves,which is accompanied by a negative GH in North America but a positive GH in *** the SPV shifted towards Eurasia,the tropospheric planetary wave-1(-2)waves strengthened(weakened),and the combined effects of the planetary wave-1 and wave-2 waves would cause positive GH anomalies in both Eurasia and North America.

Phosphorus-silicon-integrated electrolyte additive boosts cycling performance and safety of high-voltage lithium-ion batteries

Safety and energy density are significant for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs),and the flammable organic elec-trolyte is one of the most critical causes of the safety problem of *** LiNi0.8 Co 0.1 Mn 0.1 O 2(NCM811)cathode with high capacity can improve the energy density,the interface stability between NCM811 cathode and electrolytes needs to be ***,we report a multifunctional additive,diethyl(2-(triethoxysilyl)ethyl)phosphonate(DETSP),which can suppress the flammability of the elec-trolyte and enhance the cycling stability of NCM811 cathode with a capacity retention of 89.9%after 400 cycles at 1 C,while that of the blank electrolyte is merely 61.3%.In addition,DETSP is compati-ble well with the graphite anode without impairing the electrochemical ***,the performance and safety of NCM811/graphite full cells are also *** and theoretical re-sults demonstrate that DETSP can scavenge acidic byproducts and is beneficial to form a stable cathode-electrolyte interface(CEI).Accordingly,DETSP can potentially be an effective solution to ameliorating the safety of the commercial electrolyte and improving the stability of high-voltage cathodes.

Electrode-compatible fluorine-free multifunctional additive regulating solid electrolyte interphase and solvation structure for high-performance lithium-ion batteries

The rapid development and widespread application of lithium-ion batteries(LIBs) have increased demand for high-safety and high-performance LIBs. Accordingly, various additives have been used in commercial liquid electrolytes to severally adjust the solvation structure of lithium ions, control the components of solid electrolyte interphase, or reduce flammability. While it is highly desirable to develop low-cost multifunctional electrolyte additives integrally that address both safety and performance on LIBs, significant challenges remain. Herein, a novel phosphorus-containing organic small molecule, bis(2-methoxyethyl) methylphosphonate(BMOP), was rationally designed to serve as a fluorine-free and multifunctional additive in commercial electrolytes. This novel electrolyte additive is low-toxicity,high-efficiency, low-cost, and electrode-compatible, which shows the significant improvement to both electrochemical performance and fire safety for LIBs through regulating the electrolyte solvation structure, constructing the stable electrode-electrolyte interphase, and suppressing the electrolyte combustion. This work provides a new avenue for developing safer and high-performance LIBs.

Flame-retardant oligomeric electrolyte additive for self-extinguishing and highly-stable lithium-ion batteries:Beyond small molecules

Preparing both safe and high-performance lithium-ion batteries(LIBs) based on commonly used commercial electrolytes is highly desirable,yet *** overcome the poor compatibility of conventional small-molecular flame-retardants as electrolyte additives for safe LIBs with graphite anodes,in this study,we propose and design a novel low-cost flame-retardant oligomer that achieves an accurate and complete reconciliation of fire safety and electrochemical performance in *** to the integration of phosphonate units and polyethylene glycol(PEG) chains,this oligomer,which is a phosphonatecontaining PEG-based oligomer(PPO),not only endows commercial electrolytes with excellent flame retardancy but also helps stabilize the electrodes and Li-ion ***,adding 15 wt% of PPO can reduce 70% of the self-extinguishing time and 54% of total heat release for commercial ***,LiFePO_(4)/lithium and graphite/lithium cells as well as LiFePO_(4)/graphite pouch full cells exhibit good long-term cycling stability.

Migration mechanism of atrazine in the simulated lake icing process at different freezing temperatures based on density function theory

Atrazine causes concern due to its resistant to biodegradation and could be accumulated in aquatic organisms,causing pollution in *** study measured the concentration of atrazine in ice and the water under ice through a simulated icing experiment and calculated the distribution coefficient K to characterize its migration ability in the freezing ***,density functional theory(DFT)calculations were employed to expatiate the migration law of atrazine during icing *** to the results,it could release more energy into the environment when atrazine staying in water phase(-15.077 kcal/mol)than staying in ice phase(-14.388 kcal/mol),therefore it was beneficial for the migration of atrazine from ice to *** explains that during the freezing process,the concentration of atrazine in the ice was lower than that in the *** calculations indicated thatwhen the temperature decreases from268 to 248 K,the internal energy contribution of the compound of atrazine and ice molecule(water cluster)decreases at the same vibrational frequency,resulting in an increase in the free energy difference of the compound from-167.946 to-165.390 kcal/*** demonstrated the diminished migratory capacity of *** study revealed the environmental behavior of atrazine during lake freezing,which was beneficial for the management of atrazine and other pollutants during freezing and environmental protection.

Effects of the properties of Mg(OH)_(2)precursor on the hydrothermal synthesis of magnesium oxysulfate whiskers

Magnesium oxysulfate(MOS)whiskers are commonly synthesized through a dissolution-precipitation mechanism,wherein Mg(OH)_(2)dissolves to form Mg(OH)64−,followed by reactions with SO_(4)^(2−)and H_(2)O to yield MOS ***,the impact of Mg(OH)_(2)precursor properties on the formation process of MOS whiskers has been insufficiently explored,and sector-like and needle-like morphologies were both observed in previous *** this study,we systematically investigated how the properties of Mg(OH)_(2)precursors influenced the crystalline structure and morphology of MOS *** various experimental conditions,MgSO_(4)·5Mg(OH)_(2)·2H_(2)O(152MOS)whiskers were consistently obtained,regardless of Mg(OH)_(2)morphology and *** size of Mg(OH)_(2)emerged as a critical factor in shaping the morphology of 152MOS ***-sized Mg(OH)_(2)(≤106±37 nm)favored the formation of sector-like whiskers,while larger-sized Mg(OH)_(2)(≥206±98 nm)encouraged the development of needle-like *** distinction was attributed to the slower dissolution rate exhibited by larger-sized Mg(OH)_(2),maintaining a smaller number of 152MOS nuclei and promoting the growth of needle-like whiskers instead of the aggregation of 152MOS nuclei into sector-like *** addition,the effects of the molar ratio of Mg^(2+)to SO_(4)^(2−)and hydrothermal temperature were also *** average length and diameter of the needle-like whiskers prepared with Mg(OH)_(2)of 331±145 nm under optimized conditions were 77±32 and 0.39±0.10μm,*** study presented an effective strategy for controlling the morphology of 152MOS whiskers.

Carbon emissions associated with buildings are a major source of urban emissions. To put forward the methods and strategies to curb carbon emissions from urban building stock, it is not only necessary to establish a carbon emission calculation method for fine statistical analysis, but also to evaluate carbon emissions of urban planning schemes with applicable indexes. Currently,researches mainly focus on carbon emissions of individual buildings. When expanded to urban building stock, the calculation faces the lack of basic data, inadequate spatial analysis and unspecific carbon reduction indexes. Therefore, this study proposes a bottom-up calculation method for urban building stock, conducts spatial analysis based on carbon balance of urban grids, reveals the coupling mechanism between urban carbon reduction indexes and grid carbon emissions, and systematically establishes a carbon-reduction-oriented urban planning method that comprises calculation, analysis and evaluation, which is applied to Xi'an,China. This study provides a theoretical reference for cities to formulate carbon reduction targets and implement planning strategies by evaluating and predicting carbon emissions from urban building stock.

Application of oblique photogrammetry technique in geological hazard identification and decision management

With the continuous development of the oblique photography technique, it has been used more and more widely in the field of geological disasters. It can quickly obtain the three-dimensional(3D) real scene model of dangerous mountainous areas under the premise of ensuring the safety of personnel while restoring the real geographic information as much as possible. However, geological disaster areas are often accompanied by many adverse factors such as cliffs and dense vegetation. Based on this, the paper introduced the flight line design of oblique photogrammetry, analyzed the multi-platform data fusion processing, studied the multi-period data dynamic evaluation technology and proposed the application methods of data acquisition, early warning, disaster assessment and decision management suitable for geological disaster identification through the analysis of actual cases, which will help geologists to plan and control geological work more scientifically and rationally, improve work efficiency and reduce the potential personnel safety hazards in the process of geological survey, to offer technical support to the application of oblique photogrammetry in geological disaster identification and decision making and provide the scientific basis for personal and property safety protection and later-stage geological disaster management in disaster areas.
