The Upper Cretaceous carbonate successions of the Sarvak Formation host giant oil reservoirs in the Persian *** this research,a total of 28 oil samples from nine oilfields located in the western,central and eastern parts of the Persian Gulf region were studied to determine the genetic relationships of oils,depositional setting of possible source rocks,thermal maturity,and source-rock ages in the Persian Gulf *** to the measured geochemical data,the source rocks facies vary from marine carbonates and marl/carbonates in the central and eastern oilfields to shale/carbonates in the western *** Pr/Ph ratio,steranes and terpanes suggest anoxic to dysoxic conditions of the depositional *** depositional environments experienced both low water stratification/low salinity and normal salinity/unstratified *** of the saturated and aromatic biomarkers shows that all oil samples are mature and most of the source rocks lie within the beginning of the oil-generation *** thermal maturity of the central oilfields is higher than that of the other samples,and has gone beyond the oil-generation *** C2s/C2g steranes ratio suggest that the central oilfelds of the Persian Gulf have Paleozoic and Jurassic source rocks,whereas the Sarvak reservoir in other parts of this region is sourced from Cretaceous carbonate rocks.

Multifractal modeling is a mathematical method for the separation of a high potential mineralized background from a non-mineralized background. The Concentration-Distance to Fault structures(C-DF) fractal model and the distribution of the known iron(Fe) deposits/mines seen in the Esfordi and Behabad 1:100,000 sheets from the Bafq region of central Iran are used to distinguish Fe mineralization based on their distance to magnetic basement structures and surface faults, separately, using airborne geophysical data and field surveys. Application of the C-DF fractal model for the classification of Fe mineralizations in the Esfordi and Behabad areas reveals that the main ones show a correlation with their distance from magnetic basement structures. Accordingly, the distances of Fe mineralizations with grades of Fe higher than 55%(43% < Fe ≤ 60%) are located at a distance of less than 1 km, whereas for surfacial faults with grades of 43% ≤ Fe ≤ 60%, the distances are 3162< DF ≤ 4365 m from the faults. Thus, there is a positive relationship between Fe mineralization and magnetic basement structures. Also, the proximity evidence of Precambrian high-grade Fe mineralization related to magnetic basement structures indicates syn-rifting tectonic events. Finally, this C-DF fractal model can be used for exploration of magmatic and hydrothermal ore deposits.

Base on geological history evaluation using regional stratigraphy, sedimentary environments, magmatic activities, metamorphism and structural trend in Iran, physiographic-tectonic zoning map of Iran’s sedimentary basins has prepared. This map has prepared to point out the basement tectonics role in Iran. It contains twenty-four different provinces. Iran has composed from different plates: Arabian plate in south and west, Cimmerian manipulated in north and east, Eurasian plate in northeast margin. Cimmerian manipulated at least can be divided to the smaller part, East-Central Iran and North-Central Iran microcontinents. There are evidences for thick-skinned tectonics in the border zones of these plates and microcontinents, especially in Sanandaj-Sirjan overthrust belts that it formed by crustal stacking wedges. Also, Neoproterozoic-Phanerozoic Tectonic column in the Arabian, Cimmerian and Eurasian plates under Iran Country area have introduced.

Based on geographic distribution and geological setting of salt plugs in southern Iran, three salt diapiric provinces have been distinguished. These provinces include the Hormuz, Shiraz-Kazerun and Nyriz-Jahrum sub-basins. There are more than hundred salt plugs which they have been formed and developed in the southern margin of Iran. The salt structures that originated from Hormuz formation in these areas have been restricted and separated from each other for the first time in this paper. Salt diapirism of these provinces has been triggered earlier by Halokinesis in the Zagros and Persian Gulf basins, but it has affected later by tectonic forces, because orientation, shape and position of salt plugs have been followed from convergence regime (especially in the Zagros hinterland). In the other hand, based on our results from salt plugs in Persian Gulf foreland basin and the Zagros hinterland, Halokinesis triggers has been affected more than Halotectonic forces.

The Marun oil field is situated on the eastern part of Zagros, Iran. Aghajari Formation is cropping out on the surface. The Asmari formation, the Bangestan and Khami Groups are the Main reservoirs in this field and Asmari formation is the most important reservoir. Dolomitic carbonates are dominant lithology in the study well. Increasing of shale Layers in different layers caused to decrease of brittle property and this condition had investigated by petrophysical evaluation. According to this research, near to 29 percent shale has mixed with sandstone rock units in the study well which is comparable with maximum porosity there. Because, sandstone layers have shown the best porosity (near to 26 percent) in the study well. Also, good rocks based on water saturation and porosity are situated in sandstone units and poor rocks have existed in the limestone-dolomites. Therefore, facies changes in the Asmari formation can explain the observed variations in reservoir quality in the study area.

The several mud volcanoes have been exposed at the Gorgan area in the north Iran. The Garniarig-Tapeh is the biggest mud volcano and the investigation of its tectonic geomorphology is the main aim in this paper. Also, we have determinated tectonic and geologic setting of Naft-Lije mud volcanoes and several Salses as the exposed mud diapirs at Gorgan on the northern margin of Iran. These mud volcanoes have been formed during quaternary of as a shield shape hill or pool on the flat plain in coastal region SE Caspian Sea. There are flat area and several mud volcanoes that they have been triggered by buoyant driving mechanisms, have been appeared during dormant periods of mud volcanoes activity. This mechanism has been developed in neotectonic regime by convergent setting between The Cimmerian and Eurasian plates. Finally, the main characteristics of the Gorgan area have presented.

The Napag is the biggest Mud Volcano at Makran in Iran. The main aim of this research is the investigation of geologic setting and geographic situation of Napag Mud Volcano as a well-known mud diapir at Makran on the south eastern margin of Iran. The Napag Mud Volcano has been formed during quaternary of as a conical hill on the flat plain in coastal region Oman Sea. There are badlands area and several mud volcanoes that they have been triggered by longitudinal normal faults. This normal faults have been developed in neotectonic regime by the roll-back of oceanic lithosphere (beneath of Oman Sea). Finally, the main characteristics of the Napag mud diapir are presented.

One of the main faults of the Central Iran is Davaran Fault system which holds right-lateral strike slip with a pressure component. Contemporary activities of this fault signify the continuity of stresses up to now. Davaran fault system has extended parallel to Davaran Mountains. Most of the drainage networks of this region are located on trend of faults. The faults of this region are classified to 5 groups. These groups include conjugated faults of Riedel and Anti-Riedel (R, R'), normal faults (T), faults parallel with the major fault (Y) and faults approximately parallel with the main fault (P). T Faults are normal faults with tension mechanism. By calculation of sinuosity (Smf) of northeast and southwest mountain fronts of the region and ratio of valley floor width of the rivers flowing in the region to their wall height (Vf), it is specified that this region is active in terms of uplift and tectonics. The rivers have deep valley. Tectonic activity in northeast front is more active than southwest mountain front.

Kareh Bas is one the transverse fault systems in Zagros fold-thrust belt. Kareh Bas Transcurrent Fault System with a total length of 200 Km is situated about 80 Km east of the Borazjan segment (a part of Kazerun fault zone) and 40 Km west of Shiraz. It is a nearly N-S trending right-lateral linked strike-slip fault system, and several anticlinal axes have been displaced by it. Strike separation (109 Km) of Mountain Front Fault/Flexure (MFF) of Zagros is the most important function of Kareh Bas Transcurrent Fault System. According to fractal analysis (Box-counting method) on space image maps (1:50,000) prepared from Spot data, fault related surface ruptures have non-linear patterns and fault segments have nearly plane form fractal dimensions;specially at north and south terminations. It means that, the north and south terminations of Kareh Bas Transcurrent Fault System are active (earthquake fault segments) and latter case is more active, because it is coinciding on Zagros mountain front faults (MFF).

One of the most interesting salt structures is salt-tongue canopy. The Central Iran basin has a few salt provinces and in this paper, morphotectonic concept of the salt-tongue canopy on the west of Garmsar city has been investigated. In this study, field data coupling with the salt tectonic-related factors to provide a position for salt rocks in the west Garmsar. Firstly, various geological factors such as faults, folds and roads were extracted and compiled. This is because the factors mentioned above play important role in the instability of the region. The results of this study showed that the salt extrusion from the Lower Red formation is severe. Further, it is evident that the shortening of main structures has had a great impact on it whilst the salt movements have occurred within Garmsar Syncline. Finally, the paper concluded that the salt-tongue canopy in the region has increased the rates of salt extrusion.
