AIM:To evaluate the clinical use of Fourier analysis of videokeratography data in the diagnosis and follow-up of keratoconus(KC).METHODS:We conducted a chart review of consecutive patients presented to our cornea clinic.A team of two experienced cornea specialists divided the patients into three groups:normal cornea,forme fruste KC(FFKC),and clinical *** exclusion criteria were a history of previous ocular surgery,any accompanying corneal pathology other than KC,high myopia(>6.00 diopters),amblyopia,pregnancy,breastfeeding,or any current autoimmune *** data of Fourier series harmonic analysis were evaluated for their diagnostic capacity using the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve.A binary logistic regression analysis was also conducted to construct a diagnostic model.A total of 259 eyes showed progression in the clinical KC group and underwent a combination of accelerated corneal collagen cross-linking and topographyguided customized treatment with an excimer ***:The study included 1262 eyes(618 normal,530 KC,and 114 FFKC)of 1262 *** observed that maximum decentration(MaxDec)was almost as good as maximum keratometry(Kmax)in detecting progressive *** area under the curve(AUC)was 0.95 for KC[95%confidence interval(CI):0.93-0.96]and 0.84 for FFKC(95%CI:0.79-0.88).Higher predictive accuracy was obtained using a model combining the spherical component,MaxDec,irregularity,and regular astigmatism in the center of the cornea(AUC:0.97;sensitivity:89%,and specificity:96%).CONCLUSION:Decentration,Kmax,and posterior radii of curvatures from a 3.0-mm optical zone centered on the thinnest point of the cornea provide the highest accuracy with low reproducibility of Kmax.

Poly (m-aminobenzene sulfonic acid, m-ABSA) films were electrochemically prepared by cyclic voltammetry (CV) in 0.1 mol L–1 KCl solution. The dopamine (DA) selectivity of polymeric electrodes prepared at the different thicknesses was examined in the presence of ascorbic acid (AA). The results showed that the modified electrode showed an excellent electrocatalytical effect towards oxidation of dopamine (DA) and ascorbic acid (AA). Electrostatic interaction between the negatively charged poly(m-ABSA) film and either cationic DA species or anionic AA species favorably contributed to the redox response of DA and AA. Moreover, the regular and repetitive responses for dopamine were obtained even in the presence of the some interfering substances such as ascorbic acid, NaCl, NaClO4, Na2SO4 ,NaNO3 and KCl.

目的:分析Duane眼球后退综合征(DRS)患者的临床特点及手术疗效。方法:评估94例DRS患者临床数据。记录完整的眼科数据,包括年龄、性别、侧位、DRS类型、偏角、异常头部姿势(AHP)、眼球后退、过冲及手术入路类型。结果:患者年龄为15.4±9.18岁,其中78例男性,16例女性。单侧和双侧受累分别为87%和13%。在单侧DRS患者中,左眼占65%。94例患者中,59.5%的患者为I型,29.7%的患者为II型,8.5%的患者为III型,2.1%的患者为IV型。大多数患者(36,38%)为嗜热性,43例(96%)患者术前AHP出现10°以上。有40例(43%)患者出现过度调校,通常为II型。对45例(48%)患者进行手术治疗。共32例(78%)行水平直肌手术后获得了较好疗效,24例(53%)患者AHP改善。结论:侧直肌的Y分裂和后榫固定在有明显过校的情况下都有令人满意的结果。垂直直肌转位增强术在限制外展方面取得了最佳效果。

Aim: Erectile dysfunction may be observed in up to 80% of patients with Peyronie's disease. An objective evaluation of the erectile function is attempted to work out in patients with Peyronie's disease. Methods: Penile deformity, sexual function and penile vascular status were analyzed in 123 patients with Peyronie's disease, who had not received any pertinent treatment. Results: Penile deformity, palpable plaque and pain on erection were seen in 112 (91%), 97(78.8%) and 27 (21.9%) of the 123 patients, respectively. Of the 76 patients evaluated by color Doppler ultrasounography, veno-occlusive dysfunction as the vascular component for erectile dysfunction was found in 17 (22.3%), arterial insufficiency in 10(13.1%) and a mixed picture in 23 (30.2%). Conclusion: The documentation of penile erectile function and the determination of the vascular status using color Doppler ultrasonography can guide the appropriate therapeutic choice.

AIM： In colorectal surgery, anastomotic failure is still a problem in ischemia. Here, we analyzed the effects of hyperbaric oxygen and beta-glucan on colon anastomoses in ischemic condition. METHODS： Colonic resection and anastomosis in rectosigmoid region were done in forty Wistar-Albino rats of four groups of equal number. Colon mesentery was ligated to induce ischemia. The first group was the control group. The subjects of second group were treated with hyperbaric oxygen; the third group with glucan and the forth group were treated with both. At the forth day, rats were sacrificed, anastomotic segment was resected and burst pressures and hydroxyproline levels of anastomotic line were measured. RESULTS： The burst pressure difference of second and third groups from the control group were meaningful （P〈0.01）; the forth group differed significantly from the control （P〈0.001）. There was no difference between the treated groups on burst pressure level （P〉0.05）. The hydroxyproline levels in all treated groups were different from the control group significantly （P〈0.001）. Hydroxyproline levels in the forth group were higher than those of the second and the third groups （P〈 0.001）. There were no significant differences between the second and the fourth groups in burst pressure and hydroxyproline levels （P〉 0.05）. CONCLUSION： Hyperbaric oxygen and glucan improve healing in ischemic colon anastomoses by anti-microbic,immune stimulating properties and seem to act synergistically when combined together.

Internet and social media usage of orthopaedic patients:A questionnaire-based survey

AIM To evaluate social media usage of orthopaedic patients to search for solutions to their health problems. METHODS The study data were collected using face-to-face questionnaire with randomly selected 1890 patients aged over 18 years who had been admitted to the orthopaedic clinics in different cities and provinces across Turkey. The questionnaire consists of a total of 16 questions pertaining to internet and social media usage and demographics of patients, patients' choice of institution for treatment, patient complaints on admission, online hospital and physician ratings, communication between the patient and the physician and its *** It was found that 34.2%(n = 647) of the participants consulted with an orthopaedist using the internet and 48.7%(n = 315) of them preferred websites that allow users to ask questions to a physician. Of all questionaskers, 48.5%(n = 314) reported having found the answers helpful. Based on the educational level of the participants, there was a highly significant difference between the rates of asking questions to an orthopaedist using the internet(P = 0.001). The rate of questionasking was significantly lower in patients with an elementary education than that in those with secondary, high school and undergraduate education(P = 0.001) The rate of reporting that the answers given was helpful was significantly higher in participants with an undergraduate degree compared to those who were illiterate, those with primary, elementary or high school education(P = 0.001). It was also found that the usage of the internet for health problems was higher among managers-qualified participants than unemployed-housewives, officers, workers-intermediate staff(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION We concluded that patients have been increasingly using the internet and social media to select a specific physician or to seek solution to their health problems in an effective way.
