non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and metabolic syndrome in obese children

I read with great interest the article of Fu et al who investigated whether non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(nAFlD)is an early mediator for prediction of metabolic syndrome,and whether liver B-ultrasound could be used for its diagnosis,in a study involving 861 obese children(6-16 years old).In this study,it was reported that nAFlD is not only a liver disease,but also an early mediator that reflects metabolic disorder,and that liver B-ultrasound can be a useful tool for metabolic syndrome(MS)*** authors reported that nAFlD and MS were present in 68.18%and 25.67%of obese children,***,they observed that the prevalence of MS in nAFlD children was 37.64%,which was much higher than that in the non-nAFlD *** analogous to those of the Adult Treatment PanelⅢdefinition for MS were used for children in this *** reported prevalence data on MS in the young has varied markedly,in large part because of disagreement among the variously proposed definitions of ***,in my opinion,a study aiming to assess the association between MS components and nAFlD in obese children has to take into account a simple,easy-to-apply clinical definition proposed by the international diabetes federation for *** of the results of the Fu et al study are limited byanother major caveat:that the diagnosis or exclusion of nAFlD was based on liver enzymes and ultrasound imaging,but was not confirmed by liver ***,it is known that liver enzymes may be within the reference interval in up to 70%of patients with diagnosed nAFlD and that the full histopathological spectrum of nAFlD may be present in patients with normal liver enzymes,which therefore cannot be reliably used to exclude the presence of nAFlD.

Orbital decompression surgery for the treatment of Graves＇ ophthalmopathy：comparison of different techniques and long-term results

AIM： To evaluate the long-term results of different orbital decompression techniques performed in patients with Graves＇ ophthalmopathy（GO）.METHODS： Totally 170 cases with GO underwent orbital decompression between 1994 and 2014. Patients were divided into 4 groups as medial-inferior, mediallateral（balanced）, medial-lateral-inferior, and lateral only according to the applied surgical technique. Surgical indications, regression degrees on Hertel exophthalmometer, new-onset diplopia in the primary gaze and new-onset gaze-evoked diplopia after surgery and visual acuity in cases with dysthyroid optic neuropathy（DOn） were compared between different surgical ***： The study included 248 eyes of 149 patients. The mean age for surgery was 42.3±13.2 y. DOn was the surgical indication in 36.6% of cases, and three-wall decompression was the most preferred technique in these cases. All types of surgery significantly decrease the Hertel values（P〈0.005）. Balanced medial-lateral, and only lateral wall decompression caused the lowest rate of postoperative new-onset diplopia in primary gaze. The improvement of visual acuity in patients with DOn did not significantly differ between the groups（P=0.181）. COnClUSIOn： The study show that orbital decompression surgery has safe and effective long term results for functional and cosmetic rehabilitation of GO. It significantly reduces Hertel measurements in disfiguring proptosis and improves visual functions especially in DOn cases.

Hexagonal Type Ising nanowire with Spin-1 Core and Spin-2 Shell Structure

Thermodynamic properties and phase diagrams of a mixed spin-(1,2) Ising ferrimagnetic system with single ion anisotropy on hexagonal nanowire are studied by using effective-field theory with correlations. The susceptibility,internal energy and specific heat of the system are numerically examined and some interesting phenomena in these quantities are found. The effect of the Hamiltonian parameters on phase diagrams are examined in detail. Besides second-order phase transition, lines of first-order transition and tricritical points are found. In particular, we found that for some negative values of single-ion anisotropies, there exist first-order phase transitions.

nonlinear dynamic responses of a laminated hybrid composite plate subjected to time-dependent pulses are investigated. Dynamic equations of the plate are derived by the use of the virtual work principle. The geometric nonlinearity effects are taken into account with the yon Karman large deflection theory of thin plates. Approximate solutions for a clamped plate are assumed for the space domain. The single term approximation functions are selected by considering the nonlinear static deformation of plate obtained using the finite element method. The Galerkin Method is used to obtain the nonlinear differential equations in the time domain and a MATlAB software code is written to solve nonlinear coupled equations by using the newmark Method. The results of approximate-numerical analysis are obtained and compared with the finite element results. Transient loading conditions considered include blast, sine, rectangular, and triangular pulses. A parametric study is conducted considering the effects of peak pressure, aspect ratio, fiber orientation and thicknesses.

Aerodynamics of non-slender delta and reverse delta wings:Wing thickness,anhedral angle and cropping ratio

The effects of thickness-to-chord(t=c)ratio,anhedral angle(d),and cropping ratio from trailing-edge(Cr%)on the aerodynamics of non-slender reverse delta wings in comparison to non-slender delta wings with sweep angle of 45°were characterized in a low-speed wind tunnel using force and pressure *** measurements were conducted for total of 8 different delta and reverse delta *** different t/c ratios of 5.9%and 1.1%,and two different anhedral angles ofd=15°and 30°for non-cropped and cropped at Cr=30%conditions were *** results indicate that the reverse delta wings generate higher lift-to-drag ratio and have better longitudinal static stability characteristics compared to the delta *** wing thickness has favorable effect on longitudinal static stability for the reverse delta wing whereas longitudinal static stability is not influenced by wing thickness for the delta *** reverse delta wings,the anhe-draled wing without cropping has adverse effect on aerodynamic performance and decreases the lift-to-drag *** in anhedraled wing causes significant improvement in lift-to-drag ratio,shift in aerodynamic and pressure centers towards the trailing-edge,and enhancement in longitudi-nal static stability.

Performance analysis of a distributed power control algorithm for shared and split spectrum femtocell networks

In this paper, we study the performance of a distributed power adjustment algorithm for shared and split spectrum allocation setups. The theoretical analysis reveals that the convergence of the power control algorithm is guaranteed under different spectrum allocation schemes and the convergence rate is exponential. The performance analysis is also carried out via simulations which demonstrate the algorithm fairness under Jain＇s and Atkinkons＇ fairness indices.

Protective effect of low dose of melatonin against cholestatic oxidative stress after common bile duct ligation in rats

AIM: To investigate the role of oxidative injury and the effect of exogenous melatonin administration on liver damage induced by bile duct ligation (BDl), and second, to evaluate the role of nitric oxide (nO), a free oxygen radical, in oxidative injury. METHODS: Thirty-two Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned to four groups: sham operation (SO), BDl, BDl+melatonin, and BDl+vehicle. Cholestasis was achieved by double ligature of the common bile duct. Melatonin was injected intraperitoneally 500 μg/(kg·d) for 8 d. Hepatic oxidative stress markers were evaluated by changes in the amount of lipid peroxides, measured as malondialdehyde (MDA), and reduced GSH. Total nitrite (nOx) concentrations were determined in hepatic homogenates. Histopathological examination was performed using a histological scoring system. RESUlTS: The histopathological changes including portal inflammation, necrosis,apoptosis, focal inflammation and fibrosis were severe in the BDl and BDl+vehicle groups. There were numerous large areas of coagulation necrosis. Histological Activity Index scores of these groups were significantly higher than that of the SO group. Treatment with melatonin reduced these alterations significantly. The degree of necro-inflammation and fibrosis showed significant difference between the BDl and BDl+melatonin groups. BDl was accompanied by a significant increase in MDA and nOx, and a significant decrease in GSH levels. Mean±SE values of MDA, GSH and nOx levels of SO group were 147.47±6.69, 0.88±0.33 μmol/g and 180.70±6.58 nm/g, respectively. The values of BDl group were 200.14±21.30, 0.65±0.02 μmol/g, and 400.46±48.89 nm/g, respectively, whereas the values of BDl+melatonin group were 115.93±6.8,0.74±0.02 μmol/g, and 290.38±32.32 nm/g, respectively. Melatonin treatment was associated with a significant recovery of MDA, GSH and nOx levels. Spiraea cudidaghense:a new species from south-eastern Anatolia,Turkey

A new species, Spiraea cudidaghense(sect. Spiraeoideae, Rosaceae), is described and illustrated with diagnostic characters and taxonomic comments. Its characteristics are compared with those of the type species from which it differs mainly in compound corymbs inflorescence, ovate-obovate leaves, white petals, glabrous branches and densely pilose corymbs. In addition, a map of the geographic distribution of the new species, an IUCn ranking and notes on taxonomic affinities are also provided.

The First Photometric Study of W UMa Binary System V1833 Ori

The first photometric solution in the B,V,R_(c) and I_(c) filters of the short period V1833 Ori eclipsing binary is presented based on new ground-based CCD photometric *** analyzed the BVRI photometric light curves of the system,using PHOEBE 0.31 a,a binary star modeling program,with the Wilson-Devinney method based on Roche geometry to achieve the best accordance with the photometric observations to determine their absolute parameters from the light *** updated the ephemeris of V1833 Ori using two new light curve minima derived by our new observational data from those collected in the literature and analyzed the change of the system's orbital *** O-C analysis indicates that the variations of the orbital period of V1833 Ori with time are increasing at a rate of 3.03×10^(-7)days yr^(-1).The distance of V1833 Ori is 173.7±15.6 *** the solutions,we find that V1833 Ori is an A-subtype W UMa overcontact binary with q=0.701 mass ratio and f=1.14 fill-out *** HR diagram positions of the eclipsing binary system's components are *** system's absolute dimensions were compared to those of similar binaries in the log T_(eff)-log l,logM-logl,1 ogM-logR and logM-log J_(0)diagrams.
