Hyperbaric-oxygen treatment: An adjunctive therapy in acute renal failure due to crush injury

Objective: Major seismic events leave their survivors trapped under the rubble leading to extensive muscle damage and its devastating sequale of hemodynamic and metabolic disturbances and acute renal failure. Hypoxemia aggravated during each hemodialysis (HD) session is important in acute renal failure patients with massive tissue injury. We retrospectively analyzed the adjunctive role of hyperbaric-oxygen (HBO) therapy in patients treated with HD for acute renal failure due to crush injury in terms of dialysis duration. Patients and methods: 16 patients admitted after the Marmara earthquake to Istanbul Faculty of Medicine were treated with HBO. Only 8 (2M, 6F, mean age: 24.8 + 7.3 years) of them had required HD treatment. 29 (16M, 13F, mean age: 34.6 + 12.9 years) crush syndrome patients treated with HD but not with HBO were taken as controls and the clinical and laboratory data of the two groups were compared. Results: The mean duration time under the rubble for the HBO group was 9.4 + 3.2 hours. Mainly lower extremity fasciotomies were performed at 15.6 + 14.8 hours after extrication. There were no amputations in this group. There were three amputations in the control group. The mean number of HD sessions was 9.2 + 6.7/patient for 10.9+9.6 days until renal functions recovered and the patients had 27.4 + 15.6 HBO sessions until the recovery of their lesions. There were no correlations between the number of HBO sessions and any laboratory parameter nor the number of HD sessions. There was no statistical difference in the need for HD between the HBO and control group. Conclusions: Our results could not demonstrate any beneficial effect of HBO treatment in terms of HD duration;however, the valuable contribution of the HBO treatment was to increase the salvage of crushed limbs.

Energy states of the Hulthen plus Coulomb-like potential with position-dependent mass function in external magnetic fields

We need to solve a suitable exponential form of the position-dependent mass （PDM） schr6dinger equation with a charged particle placed in the Hulthen plus Coulomb-like potential field and under the actions of the external magnetic and Aharonov-Bohm （AB） flux fields. The bound state energies and their corresponding wave functions are calculated for the spatially-dependent mass distribution function of interest in physics. A few plots of some numerical results with respect to the energy are shown.

Exact solutions of Effective Mass Dirac Equation with Non-PT-symmetric and Non-Hermitian Exponential-type Potentials

By using a two-component approach to the one-dimensional effective mass Dirac equation, bound states are investigated under the effect of two new non-PT-symmetric and non-Hermitian exponential type potentials. It is observed that the Dirac equation can be mapped into a schrodinger-like equation by rescaling one of the two Dirac wave functions in the case of the position-dependent mass. The energy levels and the corresponding Dirae eigenfunctions are found analytically.

studies on Thermal Contraction of Crankshaft Bearings under Extreme Low Temperatures

This paper presents how the contractions of the main components of a V6 motor with low engine displacement are determined for the cold-start phase under extreme low temperature. Internal combustion engine components have complex geometries and to obtain the thermal contractions, in the research, used the method of finite element analysis. The phenomena of thermal contractions are studied for the cold-start situations at extreme low temperature, knowing that the cold-start phase of an internal combustion engine is the main factor that determines moving rotational and translational parts wear life. Checking the proper choice of clearance is particularly important, as the use of inappropriate values of it leads to rapid operation destruction of the engine group components. The results obtained for the thermal clearances of crankshaft bearings are mathematically modeled and the relations can be used for calculating the clearances. The mathematical models are also useful for implementing in different software tools.

Approximate solutions of Dirac Equation with Hyperbolic-Type Potential

The energy eigenvalues of a Dirac particle for the hyperbolic-type potential field have been computed approximately. It is obtained a transcendental function of energy, F(E), by writing in terms of confluent Heun *** numerical values of energy are then obtained by fixing the zeros on "E-axis" for both complex functions Re[F(E)]and Im[F(E)].

Bound state solutions of schrodinger Equation for Generalized Morse Potential with Position-Dependent Mass

The effective mass one-dimensional schroedinger equation for the generalized Morse potential is solved by using Nikiforov-Uvarov method. Energy eigenvalues and corresponding eigenfunctions are computed analytically. The results are also reduced to the constant mass case. Energy eigenvalues are computed numerically for some diatomic molecules. They are in agreement with the ones obtained before.

Approximate solution to the time-dependent Kratzer plus screened Coulomb potential in the Feinberg–Horodecki equation

We obtain the quantized momentum eigenvalues Pn together with space-like coherent eigenstates for the space-like counterpart of the schr¨odinger equation,the Feinberg–Horodecki equation,with a combined Kratzer potential plus screened coulomb potential which is constructed by temporal counterpart of the spatial form of these *** present work is illustrated with two special cases of the general form:the time-dependent modified Kratzer potential and the time-dependent screened Coulomb potential.

Exact solutions of the Morse-like Potential,step-Up and step-Down Operators via Laplace Transform Approach

We intend to realize the step-up and step-down operators of the potential V (x) = V1 e 2βx+V2 e βx. It is found that these operators satisfy the commutation relations for the sU(2) group. We find the eigenfunctions and the eigenvalues of the potential by using the Laplace transform approach to study the Lie algebra satisfied the ladder operators of the potential under consideration. Our results are similar to the ones obtained for the Morse potential (β→β).
