Tracking of microplastics distribution patterns and their characterisation in deposited road dust from Dhaka city,Bangladesh

The widespread presence of microplastics(MPs)in road dust has considerable concern regarding their potential risks to ecosystems and human *** the massive production of plastic,the erudition of MPs distribution patterns in various sizes of deposited road dust is still limited around the ***,the aim of this research is to provide an unambiguous picture of MPs distributional pattern,identification,classification,quantification,and features from road dust in various zones and types of roadways in Dhaka,*** study examined MPs in road dust samples with particle sizes ranging from 300 to 150 mm(Group-A),149-75 mm(Group-B),androup-C).This work extracted MPs from road dust using 30%H_(2)O_(2),1.6 g/cm^(3)ZnCl_(2),and 0.45 mm filter paper.A fluorescent microscope(Motic B410E,Germany),Motic Pictures,and 3.0 ML software were utilized to identify MPs ***,FTIr and SEM were utilized to determine the chemical composition of ***-A road dust samples had a significantly higher concentration of MPs(38945 items/kg)compared to Group-B androup-C dust(16720 and 5945 items/kg,respectively).The distribution hierarchy for total MPs on average by location and type of road is as follows:paved road(355 items/5 g)>unpaved road(325 items/5 g)>soil samples(294 items/5 g),roadside dust samples(284 items/5 g),and mid-road(283 items/5 g).By taking into account all sizes of road dust samples,the MPs were classified as fiber(70.26%),fragment(26.12%),beads(0.66%),films(1.32%),and foams(1.58%).It was found that adults inhaled MPs an average of 1612 items/day,while they ingested an average of 880 items/*** had an inhalation rate of 1232 items/day and an ingestion rate of 10267 items/day,which was 4e17 times greater than in other *** study identified 22 MPs polymer types,and SEM results show that MPs surfaces are being weathered into nanoplastics,creating a more hazardous environment.

Insights into Manipulation: Unveiling Tampered Images Using Modified ELA, Deep Learning, and Explainable AI

Digital image forgery (DIF) is a prevalent issue in the modern age, where malicious actors manipulate images for various purposes, including deception and misinformation. Detecting such forgeries is a critical task for maintaining the integrity of digital content. This thesis explores the use of Modified Error Level Analysis (ELA) in combination with a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), as well as, Feedforward Neural Network (FNN) model to detect digital image forgeries. Additionally, incorporation of Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) to this research provided insights into the process of decision-making by the models. The study trains and tests the models on the CASIA2 dataset, emphasizing both authentic and forged images. The CNN model is trained and evaluated, and Explainable AI (SHapley Additive exPlanation— SHAP) is incorporated to explain the model’s predictions. Similarly, the FNN model is trained and evaluated, and XAI (SHAP) is incorporated to explain the model’s predictions. The results obtained from the analysis reveals that the proposed approach using CNN model is most effective in detecting image forgeries and provides valuable explanations for decision interpretability.

Structural Style and Hydrocarbon Prospectivity of the Growth Faults related Structures in the Bengal Basin

The structural and tectonic evolution of the Bengal Basin is characterized by a complex interplay of factors, including sedimentation, the rise of the Himalayan Mountains, and the movements of Jurassic syn-rift faults. This study aims to comprehend the progression of growth faults inside the basin by examining fault geometry, basin development, and structural relief patterns. We used high-quality 2D seismic lines from the PK-MY-8403, classical seismic interpretation techniques and modeling were carried out to reveal the plate tectonic conditions, stratigraphy, and sedimentation history of the basin. The break-up unconformity, Paleocene and Eocene submerged conditions, and crucial geological formations including the Sylhet Limestone, Barail Group, and Surma Group were among the notable features recognized in seismic section. With an emphasis on growth strata and pre-growth strata, significant variations in layer thickness and relief were remarked in different stratigraphic levels. Basin development events like the evolution of the Miocene remnant ocean basin, sedimentation in Oligocene, Eocene Himalayan collision, and the Pliocene reverse fault development are analyzed. In the early the Pliocene compressional forces outpaced sedimentation rates and syn-depositional normal faults of Oligocene time began to move in opposite direction. Syn-depositional growth faults may have formed in the Bengal Basin as a result of this reversal. This research provides a detailed comprehensive knowledge of growth fault development in the Bengal Basin following the seismic interpretation, modelling, and thickness/relief analysis. The outcomes point to a substantial hydrocarbon potential, especially in regions like the Eocene Hinge Zone, where the prospectivity of the area is enhanced by carbonate reefs and Jalangi shale. However, the existence of petroleum four-way closure in the investigated region requires further investigation.

Background: Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) stands as a prominent postoperative complication in on-pump cardiac surgery, with repercussions on morbidity, mortality, and hospitalization duration. Current diagnostic criteria relying on serum creatinine levels exhibit a delayed identification of AKI, prompting an exploration of alternative biomarkers. Aims and Objectives: This study is designed to overcome diagnostic constraints and explore the viability of serum Cystatin C as an early predictor of Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) in individuals undergoing on-pump cardiac surgery. The investigation aims to establish the relationship between serum Cystatin C levels and the onset of AKI in patients subjected to on-pump cardiac surgery. Primary objectives involve the assessment of the diagnostic effectiveness of serum Cystatin C, its comparison with serum creatinine, and the exploration of its potential for the early identification and treatment of AKI. Methodology: Conducted as a single-center study at the cardiac surgery department of BSMMU in Bangladesh from September 2020 to August 2022, a comparative cross-sectional analysis involved 31 participants categorized into No AKI and AKI groups based on Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) criteria. Data collection encompassed preoperative, post-CBP (cardiopulmonary bypass) conclusion at 2 hours, postoperative day 1, and postoperative day 2 intervals. Statistical analyses included Chi-squared tests, independent Student’s t-tests, and one-sample t-tests. Significance was set at P results: The study revealed no significant differences in baseline characteristics between the No AKI and AKI groups, except for CPB time and cross-clamp time. Serum Cystatin C levels in the AKI group exhibited statistical significance at various time points, highlighting its potential as an early detector. 目的脑胶质瘤及其子区域的全自动分割是计算机辅助肿瘤临床诊断的基础,卷积神经网络在脑部磁共振成像(magnetic resonance imaging, MrI)分割过程中,小卷积核只能提取局部特征而无法有效融合全局特征,缩小了对影像信息的感知范围,从而导致分割精度不足的问题。本研究旨在利用膨胀卷积,针对三维(three-dimensional, 3D)-UNet不能充分提取全局特征的问题进行改进。方法 (1)算法构建:本文提出一种带有三条全局上下文特征提取通路的3D-UNet模型,即3DGE-UNet模型。使用脑部肿瘤分割挑战赛(Brain Tumor Segmentation Challenge, BraTS)2019提供的公开数据集(335例患者),设计一种全局上下文特征提取(more global contextual feature extraction, GE)模块,并将该模块引入到3DUNet网络的第一、二、三条跳跃连接处,利用该模块充分提取图像的不同尺度全局特征,并与上采样得到的特征图叠加,扩大模型感受野,实现不同尺度特征的深层融合,从而完成端到端的脑肿瘤全自动分割。(2)算法验证:图像数据来源于BraTs2019数据集(335例患者术前MrI图像,包括T1、T1ce、T2和FLAIr四种模态图像和一张医生标注的肿瘤标签图像),将数据集分别按照8∶1∶1划分为训练集、验证集和测试集。以医生标注的肿瘤标签图像为金标准,使用Dice系数(综合评价有效性)、敏感度(病灶区域的查全率)和95%Hausdorff距离(肿瘤边界的分割精度)在测试集中评估算法对完整肿瘤区域(whole tumor, WT)、核心肿瘤区域(tumor core, TC)和增强肿瘤区域(enhancing tumor, ET)三种区域的分割性能,分别使用无GE模块的3D-UNet模型和有GE模块的3DGE-UNet模型进行检测,内部验证GE模块设置的有效性。使用3DGEUNet模型、resUNet、UNet++、nnUNet、UNETr检测上述性能指标,并比较5种算法模型的收敛性,外部验证3DGEUNet模型的有效性。结果 (1)在内部验证中,改进的3DGE-UNet模型在测试集中分割WT、TC和ET区域的Dice均值分别为91.47%、87.14%和83.35%,与传统的3D-UNet模型相比(89.79%、85.13%和80.90%),综合评价达到了最优值,对于三个区域的分割精度都有提升(Prff距离均值优于3DUNet模型(8.17 mm vs. 13.61 mm,Prff距离(5.37 mm)优于3DGE-UNet模型,但差异无统计学意义。3DGE-UNet模型可以在训练阶段快速收敛,速度优于其他外部模型。结论 3DGE-UNet模型可以有效地提取和融合不同尺度的特征信息,提高脑肿瘤分割的准确性。

Effects of florfenicol exposure on growth,development and antioxidant capacity of flounder Paralichthys olivaceus larvae at different developmental stages

Antibiotics are widespread in various environmental media,and may pose a potential threat to aquatic ecosystems and non-target aquatic ***(FLO)is one of the most commonly used antibiotics in aquaculture,and extensively used to substitute chloramphenicol with its strong sterilization and low adverse ef *** this study,flounder Paralichthys olivaceus,an important economic fish species in seawater was used as an experimental *** exposure concentrations of FLO(including environmentrelated concentrations)were set at 0,0.01,0.1,1,and 10 mg/*** fects of FLO exposure for 168 h on growth and development,motor behavior,antioxidant enzyme activity,malondialdehyde(mdA)content,and thyroid hormone level of *** larvae were studied in pre-larvae(1 dpf)and post-larvae(20 dpf).The results show that the short-term FLO exposure could promote the larvae growth to some degrees,but inhibit them as the exposure time *** pre-larvae,FLO at 0.01 mg/L could stimulate the motor nerve system and increase the swimming ability,but inhibited it at 1 mg/*** the increasing dosage of FLO,the superoxide dismutase(SOD)and mdA contents were elevated,reaching the maximum in the 1 mg/L FLO *** pre-larvae were more sensitive than the post-larvae to FLO in the environment,and the growth and immune resistance could be damaged with long ***-larvae were more tolerant to external pollutants,FLO at 1 mg/L could promote the motor behavior and reduce SOD and mdA ***,FLO can be used as an antibiotic at a proper concentration but as a drug to prevent disease in a long-term way.

A study of groundwater irrigation water quality in south-central Bangladesh: a geo-statistical model approach using GIS and multivariate statistics

Southern Bangladesh＇s irrigation and drinking water is threatened by saline intrusion. This study aimed to establish an irrigation water quality index （IWQI） using a geostatistical model and multivariate indices in Gopalganj district, south-central Bangladesh. Groundwater samples were taken randomly （different depths） in two seasons （wet-monsoon and dry-monsoon）. Hydrochemical analysis revealed groundwater in this area was neutral to slightly alkaline and dominating cations were Na^＋, Mg^2＋, and Ca^2＋ along with major anions Cl^- and HCO3^-. Principal component analysis and Gibbs plot helped explain possible geochemical processes in the aquifer. The irrigation water evaluation indices showed： electrical conductivity （EC）〉750 μS/cm, moderate to extreme saline; sodium adsorption ratio （SAr）, excellent to doubtful; total hardness （TH）, moderate to very hard; residual sodium bicarbonate, safe to marginal; Kelly＇s ratio 〉1; soluble sodium percentage （SSP）, fair to poor; magnesium adsorption ratio, harmful for soil; and IWQI, moderate to suitable. In addition, the best fitted semivariogram for IWQI, EC, SAr, SSP, and TH confirmed that most parameters had strong spatial dependence and others had moderate to weak spatial dependence. This variation might be due to the different origin/sources of major contributing ions along with the influence of variable river flow and small anthropogenic contributions. Furthermore, the spatial distribution maps for IWQI, EC, SSP, and TH during both seasons confirmed the influence of salinity from the sea; low-flow in the major river system was the driving factor of overall groundwater quality in the study area. These findings may contribute to management of irrigation and/or drinking water in regions with similar groundwater problems.

Effect of Distributional Assumption on GArCH Model into Shenzhen Stock Market： a Forecasting Evaluation

This paper examines the forecasting performance of different kinds of GArCH model （GrACH, EGArCH, TArCH and APArCH） under the Normal, Student-t and Generalized error distributional assumption. We compare the effect of different distributional assumption on the GArCH models. The data we analyze are the daily stocks indexes for Shenzhen Stock Exchange （SSE） in China from April 3^rd, 1991 to April 14^th, 2005. We find that improvements of the overall estimation are achieved when asymmetric GArCH models are used with student-t distribution and generalized error distribution. Moreover, it is found that TArCH and GArCH models give better forecasting performance than EGArCH and APArCH models. In forecasting performance, the model under normal distribution gives more accurate forecasting performance than non-normal densities and generalized error distributions clearly outperform the student-t densities in case of SSE.

准确、完整地定位和分割脑肿瘤对脑胶质瘤患者的存活率以及治疗方案的确定起着决定性作用。在三维核磁共振影像(MrI)中,生成准确的注释需要大量的专业知识和时间成本,使用少量有标签数据与大量无标签数据进行半监督学习更加符合实际的临床场景与需求。为此,本文提出一种3DSEU-Net作为半监督模型中的教师与学生网络,该网络引入注意力计算,同时结合跳跃连接,以便获取三维医学影像中更加丰富鲁棒的结构与细节特征,训练过程中,教师模型通过不确定性量化,然后指导学生模型,使学生模型学习到置信度更高的结果,在仅有少量有标签数据的情况下学习到更多的知识,以提升模型的脑肿瘤分割精度。在仅有25个有标签数据的情况下,分割精度比全监督学习提升了12.9%,最高分割精度达81.41%,优于目前可同基准复现的6种半监督方法,证明了本文方法的可行性和有效性。

Studies in recent years have shown that aquatic pollution by microplastics(MPs)can be considered to pose additional stress to amphibian ***,our knowledge of how MPs affect amphibians is very rudimentary,and even more limited is our understanding of their effects in combination with other emerging ***,we aimed to evaluate the possible toxicity of polyethylene MPs(PE-MPs)(alone or in combination with a mix of pollutants)on the health of Physalaemus cuvieri *** 30 days of exposure,multiple biomarkers were measured,including morphological,biometric,and developmental indices,behavioral parameters,mutagenicity,cytotoxicity,antioxidant and cholinesterase responses,as well as the uptake and accumulation of PE-MPs in *** on the results,there was no significant change in any of the parameters measured in tadpoles exposed to treatments,but induced stress was observed in tadpoles exposed to PE-MPs combined with themixture of pollutants,reflecting significant changes in physiological and biochemical *** principal component analysis(PCA)and integrated biomarker response(IBr)assessment,effects induced by pollutants in each test group were distinguished,confirming that the exposure of *** tadpoles to the PE-MPs in combination with a mix of emerging pollutants induces an enhanced stress response,although the uptake and accumulation of PE-MPs in these animalswas ***,our study provides newinsight into the danger to amphibians of MPs coexisting with other pollutants in aquatic environments.
