Mud crab (Scylla serrata Forsskal 1775) value chain analysis in the Khulna region of Bangladesh

A value chain analysis is a detailed description of all the activities and services needed to turn a raw product into a marketable good for delivery to final *** mud crab business is considered by most marketing operators to be a profitable and viable business due to the high demand in the international *** the importance of mud crab fishery,there is no structured marketing facilities in *** research aim to analyze the socioeconomic condition of actors,the profitability of farming,mapping the institutional and non-institutional barriers,and provide a better understanding of the possibility of technological interventions in the value *** and quantitative data were collected through participatory rural appraisal tools that include 200 individual interviews,16 focus group discussions,and 24 key informant interviews conducted in south-west Bangladesh from July to December of *** mud crab value chain analysis revealed that the chain started with crab collection(cultivated and wild harvest),before sale to local vendors,and ended with exporters through several *** noted that most(±95%)exportable crab came from natural sources,with rest(±5%)from aquaculture *** average price(USD/kg)ranged from$10.59􀀀14.12 and$12.94􀀀19.42 for male crabs(grade:XXL),followed by$10.00􀀀11.77 and$11.77􀀀17.06 for female(grade:FF1)in domestic and international markets,*** the high profitability of these sectors,the livelihood of these stakeholders has remained relatively ***-pronged approaches,like a nursery or increasing farming and backyard seed production,and possible value addition at the farm level may help farmers.

Slaughterhouse waste is a highly energy-rich waste and is an attractive material to treat through anaerobic digestion to produce *** could be burned to provide heating and electricity or can be converted to bio-methane to be used as *** can also aid in waste management and evidently reduce the ecological and environmental *** this paper,the potential of biogas generation from the slaughterhouses in Dhaka is *** in 21 regions in Dhaka city have been surveyed for data collection and *** study estimates that approximately 7915 tons of slaughterhouse waste are generated annually from the slaughterhouses in Dhaka city which has the potential to generate 2.15 Mm^(3) of biogas.A case study on the biggest government registered slaughterhouse is also demonstrated regarding generating electricity.

An Efficient Tide-Surge Interaction Model for the Coast of Bangladesh

The numerical method of lines(MOLs)in coordination with the classical fourth-order Runge Kutta(RK(4,4))method is used to solve shallow water equations(SWEs)for foreseeing water levels owing to the nonlinear interaction of tide and surge accompanying with a storm along the coast of *** SWEs are developed by extending the body forces with tide generating forces(TGFs).Spatial variables of the SWEs along with the boundary conditions are approximated by means of finite difference technique on an Arakawa C-grid to attain a system of ordinary differential equations(ODEs)of initial valued in time,which are being solved with the aid of the RK(4,4)*** grid technique is adopted to solve coastal complexities closely with least computational cost.A stable tidal solution in the region of our choice is produced by applying the tidal forcing with the major tidal constituent M2(lunar semi-diurnal)along the southern open-sea boundary of the outer *** experimentations are carried out to simulate water levels generated by the cyclonic storm AILA along the coast of *** model simulated results are found to be in a reasonable agreement with the limited available reported data and observations.

A Numerical Study of MHD Laminar Flow in a Rotating Curved Pipe with Circular Cross Section

The incompressible viscous steady flow through a rotating curved pipe of circular cross-section with magnetic field is investigated numerically to examine the combined effects of rotation (Coriolis force), magnetic field and curvature (centrifugal force) on the flow. The curvature of the pipe has been assumed to be small, that is, the radius of the circle in which the central line of the pipe is coiled is large in comparison with the radius of the cross section. Spectral method is applied as a main tool for the numerical technique, where Fourier series, Chebyshev polynomials, Collocation methods, and Iteration method are used as secondary tools. The flow depends on the Taylor number (Tr), Dean Number (Dn), Magnetic Parameter (M) and the dimensionless curvature of the pipe δ. When Tr > 0, the rotation is in the direction so that the Coriolis force enforces the curvature effect. When Tr −1500 ≤ Tr ≤ 1500, Dn ≥ 1000 (large Dean number), M ≥ 0 and δ = 0.01. Due to high magnetic field four-vortex solution is observed in a rotating curved pipe system. Visualization is attained with MAPLE software.

Sustainable Use of Steel Industry Slag (SIS) for Concrete Production: A State Art of Review

This paper presents a review on the sustainable use of steel industry slag (SIS) in the construction industry for sustainable development. This issue also may contribute significantly to attain the sustainable development goal (SDG). If feasible sector is not determined earlier for the use of SIS for the country like Bangladesh then the unproductive uses will be increased and as well without large-scale utilization, direct dumping of SIS will create environmental hazards. On the other hand, the sustainable use of SIS in concrete production can contribute to the economic growth of the country;in addition, it can also contribute to keeping our natural environment safe from hazardous pollution. Another observation of this study is SIS used in cement and concrete production as aggregate or as additional cementing materials has a long-term strength and durability. Besides, replacement of cement with SIS deferred the hydration reaction at early ages, without any significant troubles. Furthermore, it can also be mentioned that high replacement of SIS with cement may raise a problem of volume instability which can be solved by using ground-granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) as combined admixture and the slump problem of concrete mixtures can be adjusted with addition of copper slag or class F fly ash. Feasibility analysis of SIS usage and an awareness program for all the stakeholders may be implemented for the sustainable uses of SIS. Both of these will play a vital role to safeguard environment in addition to economic growth of the country.

Biodiesel from Plant Resources—Sustainable Solution to Ever Increasing Fuel Oil Demands

The demand for fuel oil is ever increasing with the advance of the modern world, whereas worldwide reserves of fossil oils are diminishing at an alarming rate. However, there exist large stockpiles of vegetable oil feedstocks that could be exploited to produce fuel oil, called biodiesel with the aid of biotechnology. Initially, the biodiesel produced from vegetable oil did not attract much attention because of its high cost. However, the recent increase in petroleum prices and the uncertainties of petroleum availability led to the renewal of interest in biodiesel production from such sustainable resources (i.e., vegetable oil feedstocks). This research focuses on the production of biodiesel from plant resources, and further investigates the influences of key process parameters, such as the molar ratio of methanol to oil, catalyst concentration, reaction temperature, reaction period and stirring speed on the biodiesel yield. This investigation is to determine the optimum process parameters for maximum biodiesel yield. The biodiesel was produced from three vegetable oil feedstocks, namely palm, soybean and sunflower oil via a transesterification process. It was observed that all the process parameters significantly influenced the biodiesel yield. The maximum biodiesel yields for palm, sunflower and soybean oil feedstocks were found to be 87.5%, 83.6% and 80.2%, respectively at optimum condition. The results suggest that through proper optimization of the process parameters the biodiesel yields could be maximized. In conclusion, the production of biodiesel from plant resources would be regarded as a sustainable solution to the ever increasing demand of fuel oils.

Bangladesh possesses a large wetland area comprising diversified fisheries *** and fisheries are an integral part of Bangladesh and have earned its importance due to immense export and revenue *** objective of this study was to investigate the trend of fish production,export and import of Bangladesh during the last two *** reviews of the literature were done,numerical data was obtained from the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock(MoFL),Department of Fisheries(DOF),Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics(BBS).The results showed that fish production has increased in Bangladesh during the last two decades,starting from 17.81 lakh metric tons in 2000–01 and reaching up to 41.34 lakh metric tons in 2016–*** to the gradual decline in capture fishery,a significant percentage of total production comes from ***(Tenualosa ilisha)is the largest single-species fishery in Bangladesh which makes the highest contribution to the country's total fish *** of the fish commodity in terms of quantity and value has declined in recent years due to food quality and safety *** study has highlighted the contribution of fisheries production in Bangladesh and trade to the country's *** paying more attention to the fisheries sector,Bangladesh can boost up its economy.

Double Differential Cross-Section for the Ionization of Hydrogenic 2S Metastable State

Double differential cross-sections of first Born estimation for ionization of hydrogenic 2S state by electrons are assessed for various kinematics situations in the asymmetric coplanar geometry. A final state wave function of multiple scattering theory is followed in this study. The present outcomes are compared with those of hydrogenic ground state, 2P state and ground state experimental results. Obtained findings show a good qualitative agreement with existing results.

Analysis of Vehicle Modification Practice in Bangladesh

With the shocking present vehicle growth over 10%, many vehicles are found to operate within urban areas and national highways of Bangladesh without having necessary registration and fitness papers. Uncontrolled vehicle modification practice has become a serious concern particularly for large vehicles, which leads the vehicle owners not to properly adhere to the vehicle fitness rules. The primary objective of this research is to reveal the extent of vehicle modification of different categories of vehicle. In this regard, field survey is conducted in major bus terminals and truck depots of Dhaka city to find out the issues related to rampant vehicle modification. Later statistical analysis is performed to obtain the most observed vehicle dimensions followed by local body workers. Finally, detailed questionnaire survey is performed on vehicle owners as well as the body makers as an attempt to reveal the poor quality of work performed by unskilled local workers. This paper would describe the findings of this research work along with appropriate remedial measures to control the unsafe modification of vehicles.
