Bruguiera sexangula(Lour.)Poir is an exclusive evergreen mangrove species to the Sundarbans of *** grows well in moderate saline zones with full *** study presents leaf morphological plasticity in *** to saline *** were sampled from different saline zones and various morphological traits were *** results exposed a wide deviations of leaf size parameters:leaf length varied 6.6–17.3 cm;width 2.7–7.8 cm;upper quarter width 2.2–6.5 cm;down quarter width 2.5–7.3 cm;and petiole length 0.17–1.43 *** length was significantly larger in fresh water than in other salinity zones,whereas,leaf width,upper and lower leaf quarters were significantly larger in medium saline *** shape parameters showed a large variation among saline *** base angle was significantly larger in both medium and strong salinity *** angle was significantly greater in medium salinity *** perimeter was significantly larger in fresh water but leaf area was significantly bigger in medium saline *** index and specific leaf area were maximum in moderate saline *** index was the highest in moderate saline for almost all the parameters *** ordination(PCA)showed clusters of leaf samples although there were some overlap among them which suggested a salt-stress relationship among salinity *** results indicate that *** had a plasticity strategy on leaf morphological parameters to salinity in the *** study will provide basic information of leaf plasticity of this species among saline zones which will help for site selection of coastal planting and will also provide information for policy makers to take necessary steps for its conservation.

Status and prospects for symmetric organic redox flow batteries

As environmental concerns from fossil fuel consumption intensify, large-scale energy storage becomes imperative for the integration of renewable sources like wind, hydro, and solar with the electrical *** flow batteries, particularly those employing organic molecules, are positioned as a key technology for this purpose. This review explores the growing field of symmetric organic redox flow batteries(ORFBs) within this context. Unlike traditional asymmetric designs based on unique active materials for each electrode, symmetric ORFBs involve a single bipolar species for both electrodes. This review highlights the benefits of a symmetric design, and categorizes five distinct classes of organic bipolar molecules used in both aqueous and non-aqueous solvents. By providing a comprehensive overview of their cell cycling and performance characteristics, the strengths and weaknesses of the diverse categories of bipolar molecules are highlighted for both solvent systems, as are opportunities for future development. This should guide new research directions and advance the development of practical symmetric ORFBs.

A New Algorithm for a Condenser Design for Large-Scale Nuclear Power Plants in Tropical Region

This work presents a new velocity search algorithm for designing a condenser of a 1200 MWe large-scale nuclear power plant situated in tropical *** this,the condenser pressure was considered in the range of 7.5-15 kPa while its tube inner diameter was taken as 28 mm with 1 mm tube wall *** longitudinal and transverse condensers with multiple shell tanks and varied shell tank lengths from 8-14 m have been considered in this *** different tertiary coolant temperature rises were chosen as 4°C,8°C and 12°C by considering tropical region average reservoir water temperature range of 28°C to 32°C during *** of tertiary coolant was kept within 0.75-1.5 m/s to ensure sufficient turbulence to avoid erosion-corrosion of the *** simulation has been employed to obtain tube-side pressure drop and convection heat transfer coefficient directly from tertiary coolant inlet velocity using κ-ω turbulent flow model.A new iterative“Velocity-search algorithm”has been developed that focuses on finding the correct tertiary coolant velocity instead of overall heat transfer *** revealed that velocity-search algorithm yielded very close to the important physical and thermal parameters of condenser compared to the existing design data in large scale nuclear power ***-search algorithm has given less number of condenser design physical parameters that meets the velocity acceptance criteria for longitudinal condenser compared to the transverse ***,velocity-search algorithm is found to be more reliable,robust,and consistent for condenser design compared to the conventional design algorithm used in Log-Mean Temperature Difference method.

Hydrogen Gas Filling into an Actual Tank at High Pressure and Optimization of Its Thermal Characteristics

Gas with high pressure is widely used at present as fuel storage mode for different hydrogen vehicles. Differenttypes of materials are used for constructing these hydrogen pressure vessels. An aluminum lined vessel and typicallycarbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) materials are commercially used in hydrogen vessels. An aluminumlined vessel is easy to construct and posses high thermal conductivity compared to other commercially availablevessels. However, compared to CFRP lined vessel, it has low strength capacity and safety factors. Therefore,nowadays, CFRP lined vessels are becoming more popular in hydrogen vehicles. Moreover, CFRP lined vesselhas an advantage of light weight. CFRP, although, has many desirable properties in reducing the weight and inincreasing the strength, it is also necessary to keep the material temperature below 85 ℃ for maintaining stringentsafety requirements. While filling process occurs, the temperature can be exceeded due to the compression worksof the gas flow. Therefore, it is very important to optimize the hydrogen filling system to avoid the crossing of thecritical limit of the temperature rise. Computer-aided simulation has been conducted to characterize the hydrogenfilling to optimize the technique. Three types of hydrogen vessels with different volumes have been analyzed foroptimizing the charging characteristics of hydrogen to test vessels. Gas temperatures are measured inside representativevessels in the supply reservoirs (H2 storages) and at the inlet to the test tank during filling.

Due to the numerous variables to take into account as well as the inherent ambiguity and uncertainty,evaluating educational institutions can be *** concept of a possibility Pythagorean fuzzy hypersoft set(pPyFHSS)is more flexible in this regard than other theoretical fuzzy set-like models,even though some attempts have been made in the literature to address such *** study investigates the elementary notions of pPyFHSS including its set-theoretic operations union,intersection,complement,OR-and *** results related to these operations are also modified for ***,the similarity measures between pPyFHSSs are formulated with the assistance of numerical examples and ***,an intelligent decision-assisted mechanism is developed with the proposal of a robust algorithm based on similarity measures for solving multi-attribute decision-making(MADM)problems.A case study that helps the decision-makers assess the best educational institution is discussed to validate the suggested *** algorithmic results are compared with the most pertinent model to evaluate the adaptability of pPyFHSS,as it generalizes the classical possibility fuzzy set-like theoretical ***,while considering significant evaluating factors,the flexibility of pPyFHSS is observed through structural comparison.

Determining asphalt surface temperature using weather parameters

Temperature affects the structural response of asphalt concrete(AC) pavement To evaluate the performance,it is important to accurately predict the pavement surface *** study develops three regression models to determine the surface temperature of an asphalt pavement using field measured data such as air temperature,wind speed,wind direction,relative humidity,and solar *** models namely,24-h model,day-time model and night-time model were developed based on one-year continuous *** weather data were measured from October 2012 to October 2013 at an instrumented pavement section on Interstate I-40 near Albuquerque,New *** developed regression models were validated using October 2014 to June 2015 weather data,which were not used in developing the regression *** temperatures predicted using the developed regression models were then compared to those predicted using the pavement mechanistic-empirical(ME) software’s default *** is observed that the regression models are better predictors of pavement surface temperatures than the ME default models.A parametric study was also performed in this study to identify the effects of weather parameters on the pavement surface temperature *** authors of this study expect that this study will be useful in pavement design especially in cold regions.

Jet Screech Reduction with Perforated Flat Reflector

In the present experimental study, investigations have been carded out to evaluate the performance of the new control technique of jet screech with different perforated flat reflectors. Mainly two types of porous flat reflectors had been used in the experiment. One reflector （reflector-V） designed for placing the reflector surface vertical to the jet axis, when, another type of reflector （reflector-H） designed for placing the reflecting surface horizontal to the jet axis. In both cases the reflectors had been placed at the nozzle （base tube with uniform cross-sectional area） exit. The diameter of the reflector-V was 15D when the diameter of the reflector-H was 10D. The porous area of the reflector-V was 6D and 4.5D for reflector-H where D indicated the diameter of the nozzle exit. The placement of the reflector at the exit of the nozzle reduces the sound pressure at the nozzle exit. Thus the muted sound can not excite the unstable disturbance at the nozzle exit and the loop of the feedback mechanism disappeared, finally, the generation of jet screech be cancelled. The suction space located at the back side of the porous surface of the reflector-V improves the efficiency of the screech control technique. However, in the case of reflector-H, the receptivity process of feedback loop had been controlled by reducing the disturbances at the effective shock fronts as well as at the nozzle exit. The performance of the proposed method was verified with a flat reflector concept and good performance in jet screech suppression has been confirmed in the case of porous reflector.

Measurement of Supersonic Jet Noise with Optical Wave Microphone System

An optical wave microphone system is a new technique of sound measurement. This technique has been developed as a new plasma diagnostic technique to measure electron density fluctuations in the nuclear fusion research. Because the sound wave is a pressure or a density fluctuation, it is possible for this technique to measure the sound wave, too. The acoustical characteristics of the optical wave microphone system were examined by using a speaker as a first step. Next, feasibility of this device to measure jet noise was examined. It was found that the optical wave microphone system could measure the jet noise as well as a sound from speaker. Hence the optical wave microphone system can be considered one of the devices equivalent to condenser microphone. Because of these reason, this device is very convenient to scan the acoustic filed through jet flow from the inside to the out side and more preferable for not disturbing the observation field.

The neuromuscular junction(NMJ)is an essential synaptic structure composed of motor neurons,skeletal muscles,and glial cells that orchestrate the critical process of muscle contraction(Li et al.,2018).The typical NMJ structure is classically described as having a“pretzel-like”shape in mice(Figure 1),whereas human NMJs have a smaller,fragmented structure throughout *** NMJs exhibit smaller or fragmented endplates,partial denervation,reduced numbers of synaptic vesicles,abnormal presynaptic mitochondria,and dysfunctional perisynaptic Schwann cells(Alhindi et al.,2022).

Sensing and Uptake of Nitrogen in Rice Plant: A Molecular View

As a main feature of plant autotrophy, assimilation of inorganic nitrogen (N) is not only of fundamental interest to the crop, but also a crucial factor in crop productivity. N is the main plant mineral nutrient needed for chlorophyll production and other plant cell components (proteins, nucleic acids and amino acids). I highlighted the novel aspects of N responsive sensors, transporters and signaling molecules recently identified in the monocot rice plant, and discussed their potential roles in N sensing and transporting. Furthermore, over the last couple of years, N sensing has been shown to be affected by different external factors, which act as local signals to trigger systemic signaling coordinated by long-distance transport or mobile signals in plant body. Understanding of this complex regulatory network provides a foundation mechanism for the development of novel strategies to increase the acquisition and transportation efficiency of nitrogen under varying N conditions for rice production.
