Phytochemical screening, antioxidant and cytotoxic activity of fruit extracts of Calamus tenuis Roxb

Objective:To investigate the antioxidant and cytotoxic activity of the fruits of Calamus tenuis ***:The preliminary phytochemical group tests were done,which revealed the presence of alkaloid,tannin,flavonoid and *** dried fruit was extracted in soxhlet apparatus using petroleum ether,ethyl acetate and *** potential of each extract was evaluated using total phenol content,total flavonoid content,cupric reducing antioxidant capacity,1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity,and total antioxidant capacity ***:The extracts were found to possess moderate to high amounts of phenolic and flavonoid *** cupric reducing antioxidant capacity assay the extracts showed moderate reducing power which increases with *** of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical was found to rise with concentration with lowest IC_(50)value for methanol extract,which was confirmed by total antioxidant activity test that shows highest(95 mg/g of extract)in ascorbic acid equivalent for methanol *** Brine shrimp lethality bioassay the methanol and petroleum ether extracts were found to be toxic to Brine shrimp nauplii,with LC_(50)of 25.53μg/mL and 28.07μg/mL respectively while the LC_(50)of the reference vincristine sulphate was 1.32μg/*** acetate extract was found to be moderately cytotoxic showing LC_(50)of 47.79μg/***:The results of the present study suggest that the fruits of Calamus tenuis Roxb possess antioxidant and cytotoxic ***,phytochemical screening reveals the presence of alkaloid,tannin,flavonoid and steroid,which may be responsible for the observed bioactivities.

Capturing transition and non-transition flows with a new shear stress transport model

A new Shear Stress Transport(SST)k-ω model is devised to integrate salient features of both the non-transitional SST k-ω model and correlation-based γ-Re_(θ) transition *** exceptionally simplified approach is applied to extend the New SST(NSST)model capabilities toward transition/non-transition ***’s stress-intensity factor R_(b)=|-uv|/k can be parameterized with the wall-distance dependent Reynolds number Re_(y)=√ky/v;however,as the Re_(y)is replaced by a“flow-structure-adaptive”parameter R_(μ)=v_(T)/v,the resulting R_(b)is capable of capturing various transition phenomena *** prospective stress-intensity parameter R_(b)=R_(b)(Re_(y),R_(μ))is incorporated in the constitutive relations for eddy-viscosity v_(T) and production term P_(k).The proposed formulation is intrinsically plausible,having a dramatic impact on the prediction of bypass,separation-induced and natural transitions together with non-transitional *** extra viscous-production term P_(k)^(lim) is added with the k-equation to ensure proper generation of k at the viscous sublayer when computing separation-induced transition over a Low-Reynolds Number(LRN)*** demonstrate that the NSST k-ω model maintains an excellent consistency with both SST k-ω and γ-Re_(θ) models.

Interaction of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide with cefixime trihydrate drug at different temperatures and compositions: Effect of different electrolytes

Herein,conductivity measurements have been carried out to explore the interaction between cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTAB,a cationic surfactant) and antibiotic drug(cefixime trihydrate(CMT)) in water and also in occurrence of inorganic salts(NaCl,Na2 SO4 and Na3 PO4) over the temperature range of 303.15-323.15 K with an interval of 5 *** all cases,two critical micelle concentrations(c^*) were achieved for the CMT-surfactant *** of CMT drug to CTAB solution decreases the values of c^* which indicates the interaction between CMT and *** values of c^* for CMT-CTAB mixture in the presence of salts are lower in magnitude compared to the aqueous medium which indicates that micellization of the CMT-CTAB mixed system is favorable in salt *** values of △Gm^0 were obtained to be negative indicating the spontaneity of the micellization process and the extent of spontaneity further increases by means of rising *** obtained outcomes from the ΔHm^0 and ΔSm^0 values disclose that the interactions between CMT and CTAB are mostly electrostatic along with hydrophobic in *** thermodynamic parameters of transfer and enthalpy-entropy compensation phenomenon were also determined and discussed in detail.

Morphological and Genetical Variability among Rhizoctonia solani Isolates Causing Sheath Blight Disease of Rice

Eighteen isolates of Rhizoctonia solani collected from infected rice plants in four different locations of Bangladesh were studied by using morphological characters and molecular markers. Anastomosis study with a reference isolate confirmed that all the isolates belonged to R. solani. Significant variation was observed in sclerotial size, shape and distribution. Un-weighted pair group method with arithmetic mean dendrogram constructed based on the Gower＇s general similarity coefficient showed that these isolates were grouped into four clusters at the 0.68 similarity coefficent according to morphological characters. Cluster I was a major cluster consisting of 13 isolates, while clusters Ⅱ to Ⅳ consisted of 1 or 2 isolates. Analyses by variable number of tandem repeat and amplified fragment length polymorphism markers showed that the isolates were grouped into five and three clusters at a similarity coefficient of 0.64 and 0.69, respectively. Although most of the variability was found between isolates from different regions as expected, significant variation was observed within the isolates collected from similar agro-ecological regions. Our results suggest the presence of different races of R. solani within the same local geographic regions.

Over the past few decades,complementary and alternative treatments have become increasingly popular *** purported therapeutic characteristics of natural products have come under increased scrutiny both in vitro and in vivo as part of efforts to legitimize their *** such product is tea tree oil(TTO),a volatile essential oil primarily obtained from the native Australian plant,Melaleuca alternifolia,which has diverse traditional and industrial applications such as topical preparations for the treatment of skin *** anti-inflammatory-linked immunomodulatory actions have also been *** systematic review focuses on the anti-inflammatory effects of TTO and its main components that have shown strong immunomodulatory *** extensive literature search was performed electronically for data curation on worldwide accepted scientific databases,such as Web of Science,Google Scholar,PubMed,ScienceDirect,Scopus,and esteemed publishers such as Elsevier,Springer,Frontiers,and Taylor&*** that the majority of pharmacological studies were conducted on crude oils only,the extracted data were critically analyzed to gain further insight into the prospects of TTO being used as a neuroprotective agent by drug formulation or dietary *** addition,the active constituents contributing to the activity of TTO have not been well justified,and the core mechanisms need to be unveiled especially for anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects leading to ***,this review attempts to correlate the anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory activity of TTO with its neuroprotective mechanisms.

Sensitivity analysis of the DehumReq model to evaluate the impact of predominant factors on dehumidification requirement of greenhouses in cold regions

In this study,the sensitivity of a novel dehumidification requirement model(DehumReq)is analyzed to evaluate the effect of the predominant factors on the dehumidification needs of the *** hourly dehumidification demand and sensitivity coefficient(SC)are estimated for three different seasons:warm(July),mild(May),and cold(November),by using the local sensitivity analysis *** on SC values,the solar radiation,air exchange,leaf area index(LAI),and indoor setpoints(temperature,relative humidity(RH),and water vapor partial pressure(WVPP))have significant impact on the dehumidifi-cation needs,and the impact varies from season to *** parameters have a higher SC in summer,whereas solar radiation and LAI have a higher SC in mild *** dehumidification load increases 4 times of its base value with increasing solar radiation by 200 W/m^(2),and the highest LAI(10)caused 5 times increment of the *** changing of WVPP from its base value(1.5 kPa)to maximum(2.9 kPa)reduces the load 70%in *** exchange was found to be the most crucial parameter because it is the main dehumidification approach that has a large range and is easily adjustable for any *** air exchange by ventilation or infiltration will reduce the dehumidification load to zero in May and November and minimizes it to only nighttime load in *** the other parameters,higher ambient air RH and indoor air speed will result in higher the dehumidification load;whereas higher inner surface condensation will result in lower dehumidifi-cation *** result of this study will assist in the selection of the most efficient moisture control strategies and techniques for greenhouse humidity control.

Effect of different additives on the phase separation behavior and thermodynamics of p-tert-alkylphenoxy poly (oxyethylene) ether in absence and presence of drug

Cloud point （CP） determinations of 4-（1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl）phenyl-polyethylene glycol （TX-100 （nonionic surfactant）） was carried out in aqueous as well as in the attendance of drug （ceftriaxone sodium trihydrate （CFT））/（CFT ＋ different inorganic salts） and discussed thoroughly. Nonionic surfactants are employed exten- sively in different formulations. In aqueous solution, the values of CP of TX-100 are obtained to increase by means of enhancing of their concentration in the solution. The CP values of TX-100 solutions were found to de- crease in the presence of drug and their values decrease more with rising concentrations of the drug. The values of CP of CFT and TX-100 mixtures were found to further decrease in the attendance of inorganic salts in compar- ison to their absence. The effect of different sodium salts in decreasing CP values of TX-100 was achieved in the following order： NaCO3 〉 Na2SO4 〉 NaCl. However, in the case of potassium and ammonium salts, the decreasing order obtained is K2SO4 〉 KCO3 〉 KCI and （NH4）2SO4 〉 Na2CO3 〉 NH4Cl respectively. Various thermodynamic pa- rameters for example standard free energy （△G c）, standard enthalpy （△H c） as well as standard entropy （△S c） changes of phase separation were also evaluated and discussed in detail on the basis of their behavior.

Hepatitis E virus is a leading cause of acute-on-chronic liver disease:experience from a tertiary centre in Bangladesh

BACKGROUND:Acute-on-chronic liver failure(ACLF) is common in *** viral E hepatitis is sporadically encountered in this country each year,with a rising incidence in the rainy *** study aimed to identify the etiology of ACLF in Bangladesh. METHODS:In this retrospective study,69 ACLF patients were *** presented to our department at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in *** of diseases was recorded and appropriate investigations were conducted in all patients. RESULTS:Acute hepatitis E virus(HEV)infection was positive in 21.7%(15/69)of the patients,while 14.5% (10/69)had *** gastrointestinal tract hemorrhage was seen in 4.3%of the patients(3/69),while another 4.3%(3/69)had a positive history for alcohol or *** of the patients tested positive for hepatitis A virus infection and no evidence of hepatitis B virus flare was found in any *** specific cause for ACLF could be identified. CONCLUSIONS:Acute HEV infection is a leading cause of ACLF in *** patients were thought to have decompensation of cirrhosis,but subsequently were recognized as having ACLF by a retrospective review according to the definition of the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver Working Party Meeting on ACLF in New Delhi in early 2008.

Medicinal values of aquatic plant genus Nymphoides grown in Asia: A review

Nymphoides is an aquatic genus consisting about 50 species, of which few were accepted as traditional medicinal plants in Asia. The literature review revealed that Nymphoides species are widely used in Ayurvedic medicine as a popular drug, i.e. Tagara. They are also utilized by the traditional local healers of different Asian countries to treat various diseases, like convulsion, jaundice, fever, headache, etc. According to the in vivo and in vitro pharmacological studies, Nymphoides species have been claimed to possess major biological activities like anticonvulsant, antioxidant, hepatoprotective, cytotoxic, antitumor, etc. Biochemical profiling of different aquatic plants of this genus revealed the presence of some important phytochemicals as polyphenolic component, flavonoids, triterpenes, carbohydrates, glycosides, etc. Several valuable bioactive compounds including ephedrine, coumarin, secoiridoid glucosides, methyl quercetin, ferulic acid, foliamenthoic acid, etc. were also known to be isolated and identified from different Nymphoides species. The aim of this review is to analyze the published report based on the medicinal values of different Asian Nymphoides species, to provide the updated information about the ethnomedicinal, pharmacological as well as the phytochemical properties for the first time.
