Dhaka is one of the most densely-populated megacities in the world. Water supply problem is acute in this city, but the quality of drinking water has tremendous importance as potability. This study was aimed at comparing various physicochemical and microbiological parameters which are very much relevant for the drinking water quality of Dhaka city of Bangladesh. A total of 80 samples from 11 collection point of different places were collected over ten months. After that, the samples were examined by a different measuring device for physicochemical parameter testing. Considering physicochemical parameters, all water samples were within the limit for pH. However, 53.75% water had unsatisfactory for chlorine level. Total Dissolve Solid (TDS), hardness, iron, and alkalinity based unsatisfactory were 28.75%, 15.0%, 8.75%, and 3.75% respectively. Five parameters had taken into consideration to measure the microbiological quality. The cultural and biochemical methods showed that 80 water samples have a different range of contamination. The total aerobic count was unsatisfactory for 53.75% samples. Sixty-one samples were found coliform contaminated that is 76.25% of the total samples and 58.75% sample was carried fecal substances. E. coli and Vibrio was unsatisfactory as 61.25% and13.75% respectively. This study revealed that how much safe is supplied water of a municipal water supplier.

Farmers’ Knowledge on Climate Change Effects in Agriculture

The major objectives of the study were to determine farmers’ knowledge on climate change effects in agriculture and to identify the factors that influenced farmers’ knowledge on climate change effects in agriculture. The study was conducted in four villages under Kazipur upazila of Sirajgonj district. Data were collected by using interview schedule from randomly selected 113 respondents during 1st January to 30th January, 2018. The findings revealed that an overwhelming majority (78.8%) of the respondents had medium to high knowledge on climate change effects in agriculture. Among eight selected characteristics, extension media contact, training received, organizational participation, and cosmopoliteness had significant positive contribution to the farmers’ knowledge on climate change effects in agriculture. It is recommended that to increase farmers’ knowledge on climate change effects initiative should be taken to improve farmers’ knowledge through more involving with organization, extension media and program.

Forced Marriage in Bangladesh: A Quantitative Study to Identify Key Factors

In this article, a study on the status of forced marriages in Sylhet division of Bangladesh has been done to determine the prevailing state of it and to identify the key factors that needed to be emphasized. A survey was conducted and a total of 1369 respondents were interviewed. This study mainly deals with 146 respondents who were found to be forced to marriage and some of them were victims of it. Cross-table and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to analyze the data. Results show that forced marriages and victims of such incidents are greatly affected by people’s education and their income levels. The family types, age of participants, spouse selection approach, and desired time to marry are also significant factors. The concerned human rights workers should emphasize on the findings of this study to improve the human rights practice in Bangladesh.

Sands along Brahmaputra River of Bangladesh have long been considered to be a source of heavy minerals (HMs) since it traversed a long way through various terrains. An attempt has been made under this research work to determine the kinds and amounts of heavy minerals in the sands sourced from the river system. Samples from 14 locations along Brahmaputra River covering 30 km distance from upstream to downstream of the river are found to contain different heavy minerals concentration with a range of 7.92 - 25.16 weight% with the remaining of the sample comprising silicate and aluminosilicates. Mineral characterization from peak positions in diffractogram of X-ray Diffraction (XRD) evaluate quartz, feldspar and mica are major categories light mineral while rutile, magnetite, illmenite, zircon, monazite, garnet, uranium arsenide and uranium fluoride are the major types heavy minerals. Ilmenite and rutile are main contributors of total heavy mineral (THM). Titanium bearing minerals ilmenite and rutile contributes 26.22% - 31.01% and 14.57% - 23.50% of THM. In the present study area, most of the sands are found to be fine and medium grained as obtained from the particle sizes analysis using 18- to 230-mesh.

Alcohol Sensing through Photonic Crystal Fiber at Different Temperature

This paper presents the investigation of relative sensitivity profile of Alcohol through Photonic Crystal fiber at different temperature. Here, 15%, 40%, 60%, 75% of Ethyl Alcohol-water mixture is inserted through the core of Photonic crystal fiber at temperature like 20°C, 25°C and 30°C. COMSOL Multiphysics is used as simulation software and the simulation process is done at wavelength range 600 nm to 1600 nm. From this work, the relative sensitivity is obtained approximately 44, 44.59, 44.85, 45 in percentage at temperature 20°C, 42, 44.2, 44.8, 44.9 in percentage at temperature 25°C, and 42, 43.8, 44.5, 44.85 in percentage at temperature 30°C for 15%, 40%, 60%, 75% of Ethyl Alcohol-water mixture at wavelength 1500 nm respectively. Again, higher sensitivity is achieved when this sensor is operated at lower temperature.

There is a long ritual of acquired immunity using physical exercise, a balanced diet, and pharmaceutical medication to generate immunity against a particular disease insight into the human body. This paper has extensively reviewed the impact of exercise, daily life practice, food selection, and several other issues to improve the immune system that combat infection. Studying the effect of exercise in varying degrees on the immunity system of humans is well developed and exhibit in this study. It investigates the prevention of pandemics due to herd immunity and finds the perfect amount of exercise to boost immunity to its maximum. Besides the life practice, it is also explored that vaccination can improve and optimize herd immunity.

Objective:To investigate the therapeutic effects of ethyl acetate extract of Mallotus repandus stem in α-amylase inhibitory activity(in vitro)and hypoglycemic activity in normal and glucose induced hyperglycemic rats(in vivo).Methods:Ethyl acetate extract of Mallotus repandus stem was tested for the presence of phytochemical constituents,α-amylase inhibitory activity and hypoglycemic effect in normal rats and glucose induced hyperglycemic ***:Presence of different types of phytochemicals was identified in the *** extract has moderate α-amylase inhibitory activity[IC_(50)=(2.038±0.033)mg/mL]as compared to *** does 1000 mg/kg significantly reduced(P<0.0100)fasting blood glucose level in normal *** oral glucose tolerance test,both 1000 and 2000 mg/kg doses showed good hypoglycemic activity(P<0.0001)like glibenclamide in each specific hour after *** time effect in oral glucose tolerance test was found extremely significant(P<0.0001)with F(3,48)value=***:These findings suggest that this plant may be a potential source for the development of new oral hypoglycemic agent.

BACKGROUND Gemcitabine plus platinum is the standard of care first-line treatment for advanced biliary tract cancers(BTC).There is no established second-line therapy,and retrospective reviews report median progression-free survival(PFS)less than 3 mo on second-line therapy.5-Fluorouracil plus irinotecan(FOLFIRI)is a commonly used regimen in patients with BTC who have progressed on gemcitabine plus platinum,though there is a paucity of data regarding its efficacy in this *** To assess the efficacy of FOLFIRI in patients with biliary tract *** We retrospectively identified patients with advanced BTC who were treated with FOLFIRI at md Anderson,University of Michigan and Mayo Clinic in *** were collected on patient demographics,BTC subtype,response per RECIST v1.1,progression and *** Ninety-eight patients were included of which 74(75%)had metastatic and 24(25%)had locally advanced disease at the time of treatment with *** median age was 60(range,22-86)*** number of patients with extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma,gall bladder cancer and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma were 10,17 and 71,*** was used as 1st,2nd,3rd or 4th–Nth lines in 8,50,36 and 4 patients,*** duration on FOLFIRI in the entire cohort was 2.2(range,0.5-8.4)*** median PFS and overall survival were 2.4(95%confidence interval(CI):1.7-3.1)and 6.6(95%CI:4.7-8.4)mo,*** PFS for patients treated with FOLFIRI in 1st,2nd,3rd or 4th–Nth lines were 3.1,2.5,2.3 and 1.5 mo,*** patients received concurrent bevacizumab(n=13)or EGFR-targeted therapy(n=5)with FOLFIRI,with a median PFS of 2.7 mo(95%CI:1.7-5.1).CONCLUSION In this largest multi-institution retrospective review of 98 patients with BTC treated with FOLFIRI,efficacy appears to be modest with outcomes similar to other cytotoxic chemotherapy regimens.

A Physician Suffering from COVID-19 with Multiple Co-Morbidities Have Delayed Viral Clearance: A Case Report from Bangladesh

Background: Novel corona virus (SARS-Coronavirus-2 SARS-CoV-2) which emerged in China has spread to multiple countries rapidly. Little information is known about delayed viral clearance in mild to moderate COVID-19 pa-tients. As it is highly contagious, health care workers including physicians are high risk of being infected in hospital care. Case Report: A 37 years old Bangladeshi physician working in a paediatric unit of a medical college hos-pital with multiple co-morbidities, hypertension, diagnosed axial spondy-loarthropathy (ankylosing spondylitis) taking disease modifying anti rheu-matic drugs— DMARDs (Salfasalazine) from 2016 till now, chronic persis-tent bronchial asthma on medication developed sore throat, increasing breathlessness and cough admitted to his own hospital on 22 April, 2020. He had a history of contact with a relapse nephrotic syndrome (glomerulone-phritis) patient admitted with severe respiratory distress later confirmed as COVID-19 following RT PCR test on 14 April, 2020. After 3 days of contact with the patient, the physician also developed the symptoms mentioned above. The RT PCR test result of the physician came positive on 18 April, 2020. The physician primarily taken only azithromycin 500 mg once daily along with other regular drugs. On 5, 12 and 18 May, 2020, his sample was taken for re-test and came positive subsequently. After that he started Iver-mectin (0.15 mg/kg) once daily for 3 days and doxycycline 100 mg BD for 7 days. He gave samples again on 27 and 29 May, 2020 which were came nega-tive after 39 days. On full recovery he was discharged from hospital on day 40. We choose the patient because presence of co-morbidities may be asso-ciated with delayed viral clearance and physicians with co-morbidities working in a hospital have high risk of being infected.
