Spatial and seasonal distribution of intertidal macrobenthos with their biomass and functional feeding guilds in the Naf River estuary, Bangladesh

The Naf River estuary is one of the most productive ecological ecosystems in Bangladesh providing an important feeding area for fishes and other aquatic ***,detailed information on macrobenthic communities is rarely available in this *** study focused on the seasonal and spatial variability of macrobenthic community structure with their biomass and functional *** total,fortyseven taxa were identified under nine major groups and seven functional feeding *** macrobenthic taxa,Polychaeta was dominant in both seasons and all over the estuary contributing 60%of total *** mean abundance of macrobenthos was higher during the pre-monsoon(2 972±1 994 inds./m^2)than the monsoon(1 572±361 inds./m^2)being maximum at mid-estuary region and minimum at upper and lower estuary *** the diversity indices,density(P=0.01,P=0.003),the number of taxa(P=0.000 3,P=0.000 9)and Margalef′s Index(P=0.000 4,P=0.001)of macrobenthos were significantly different among stations and ***-Weiner index(P=0.009,P=0.12)and Pielou’s evenness index(P=0.03,P=0.14)had significant differences among stations but not among *** analysis suggested that distribution of macrofauna is strongly influenced by *** the feeding types,carnivorous were found to be dominant at the upper and mid-estuarine regions,and herbivorous were at lower estuarine *** species were dominant in both *** have shown to be the most abundant feeding type in terms of biomass though herbivores were highest during monsoon.

The neuromuscular junction(NMJ)is an essential synaptic structure composed of motor neurons,skeletal muscles,and glial cells that orchestrate the critical process of muscle contraction(Li et al.,2018).The typical NMJ structure is classically described as having a“pretzel-like”shape in mice(Figure 1),whereas human NMJs have a smaller,fragmented structure throughout *** NMJs exhibit smaller or fragmented endplates,partial denervation,reduced numbers of synaptic vesicles,abnormal presynaptic mitochondria,and dysfunctional perisynaptic Schwann cells(Alhindi et al.,2022).

Kuroshio intrusion drives the Trichodesmium assemblage and shapes the phytoplankton community during spring in the East China Sea

To understand the influence of Kuroshio intrusion on the phytoplankton community,a field investigation was conducted in spring 2017 in the East China Sea(ECS),and 130 seawater samples were collected and *** comprised the highest cell abundance contributing about 66%of the total phytoplankton followed by diatoms(17%)and dinoflagellates(16%).The dominance of the Kuroshio Waters(KW)and the Taiwan Warm Currents(TWC)were higher than the Coastal Waters(CW).The vertical distribution of physicochemical parameters depicted the intrusion of KW at the bottom layer,but it failed to reach the surface as strong upwelling was not ***,the dissolved inorganic phosphate(DIP)concentrations and P/N ratios were the lowest in the CW and the upper water layers,which limited the diatom growth in this ***,the dinoflagellates cell abundance was also lower except in the surface and CW,though they comprised the maximum richness of species among the phytoplankton ***,the unique characteristics such as diazotrophy and gas vacuoles of Trichodesmium made the situation advantageous,and they comprised the maximum cell abundance in this area especially in KW and the ***,DIP and P/N ratios appeared to be the major environmental drivers for Trichodesmium proliferation in the ECS during the study period.

Assessment of natural regeneration status and diversity of tree species in the biodiversity conservation areas of Northeastern Bangladesh

A study was conducted at two-biodivcrsity conservation areas of Northeastern Bangladesh （a part of Sylhet Forest Division） to assess the species composition, diversity and density of natural regeneration of tree species both indigenous and exotic species. Data were collected by stratified random quadrate method during January 2010 to July 2010. Totally 200 circular plots of 2 m〉〈2 m in size had 5 different habitat types of plants namely; forest, roadside, homestead （surrounding forest dwellers house）, fallow land and others （canals, streams and tea gardens side）, which included a total of 55 regenerating species belonging to 28 families. Meliaceae is the dominant family and shows the highest family importance value （26.3）, having six species, followed by Moraeeae （24.24）. Among the five habitat types, forest （43 species） possess the highes number of species, followed by roadside （23 species）. Total 15 exotic species among 9 families and 40 indigenous species with 24 families were recorded. For exotic species, Tectona grandis possess the highest relative density （11.7%） and relative frequency （10.5%）; Senna siamea had highest relative abundance （7.83%）. In case of indigenous species, Chickrassia tabularis possess the highest relative density （4.23%） and relative frequency （4%）; Dipterocarpus turbinatus bad the highest relative abundance （3.92%）. Tectona grandis （29.66） and Chickrassia tabularis （10.8） had the highest IVI for exotic and indigenous species respectively. Different diversity indic＇es such as Shanon-Winner diversity index,＇ species diversity index, species richness index, species evenness index, Simpson index and species dominance index, etc. were applied to quantify definite diversity. The regeneration of species associated with low levelsof disturbance was in the exotic Species. To examine the phytoplankton assemblages and the effect of diluted waters on them,a research cruise was conducted from July 19 to August 7,2015 in the Zhujiang(Pearl)River estuary in the northern South China Sea(21°N–23.5°N,111°E–117°E).Samples were collected from 65 stations including one for time-series sampling.A total of 212 phytoplankton taxa were identified from 61 genera belonging to 4 *** them,122 species identified from 42 genera of Bacillariophyta and 83 species from 15 genera of ***-forming diatoms dominated the phytoplankton community where Pseudonitzschia delicatissima,Guinardia striata,Thalassionema nitzschioides,and *** comprised about 52%of the total ***,higher cell abundances concentrated on both sides of the estuary,because of low salinity and high nutrients brought by diluted *** addition,Canonical Correspondence Analysis revealed that salinity and dissolved inorganic nitrogen shaped the species composition in the study ***,the Jaccard similarity index showed prevailing high similarity in the distribution of species in low-salinity diluted waters,and the Bray-Curtis similarity depicted distinguished grouping for phytoplankton assemblages along the salinity ***,phytoplankton diel vertical cycles showed maximum abundance occurred at 2:00 am,which was mainly contributed by benthic phytoplankton species Pseudo-nitzschia *** ***.

While several recent studies have focused on elimi-nating the imbalance of energy stored in series-connected battery cells,very little attention has been given to balancing the energy stored in parallel-connected battery *** such,this paper aims at presenting a new balancing approach for parallel LiFePO_(4) battery *** this regard,a Backpropagation Neural Network(BPNN)based technique is employed to develop a Battery Management System(BMS)that can assess the charging status of all cells and control its operations through a DC/DC Buck-Boost *** results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in balancing the energy stored in parallel-connected battery cells in which the state of charge(SoC)estimation error is found to be only 1.15%.

Status and ethno-medicinal usage of invasive plants in traditional health care practices: a case study from northeastern Bangladesh

Species diversity and ethno-medicinal usage of 39 species of invasive plants were explored in and around two protected areas, Khadimnagar National Park （KNP） and Rema-Kalenga Wildlife Sanctu- ary （RKWS）, of northeastern Bangladesh,. Status of invasive plants were investigated in 60 sample plots with 5 different habitat types, including forest, roadside, homestead, fallow land and others （ponds, canals, water logged areas, agricultural land, etc.）. Data about the usage of invasive plants in traditional health care were collected through interviewing 110 households. Among the five habitat types, fallow land （28 species）.possessed the highest number of species, followed by roadside （25 species）, forest （23 species）, homestead （22 species） and others （13 species）. Based on the survey, invasive plants of study areas were also categorized into five degrees of invasiveness e.g., naturalized, introduced, possibly invasive, moderately invasive and highly invasive. Additionally, there is the linear trend between degrees of invasivaness and use percentage of invasive plants. Total 39 species of invasive plants belonging to 29 families were recorded, which are generally used to treat 37 diseases, ranging from simple headache to highly complicated eye and heart diseases. The majority of the species used by the local inhabitants were herbs （16 species）, followed by some shrubs （11 species）, climbers （5 species）, trees （5 species） and grasses （2 species）. The use percentage of aboveground plant parts were higher （70.58%） than that of underground plant parts （16.18%）.

For the first time, the present study reports the life-history traits, comprising length-frequency distribution （LFD）, sex ratio （SR）, length-weight relationships （LWRs）, condition factors （CFs）, and relative growth （WR）, of Clupisoma garua in the coastal waters of Bangladesh. A total of 150 specimens ranging from 8.60 to 25.20 cm total length （TL） and 4.26 to 128.80 g body weight （BW） were collected using traditional fishing gear from August 2013 to July 2014. The overall sex ratio of males to females in the study did not differ significantly from the expected value of 1：1 （χ2=0.96, P〈0.05） but there were significant sex differences （P〈0.05） in the intercepts and slopes of graphs characterizing traits in C. garua. The calculated b values for the LWRs were 2.955, 2.893 and 2.927 for males, females and combined sexes, respectively, and there was negative allometric growth in all cases （b〈3）. The condition factors （KA, KF, KrR） and relative growth （WR） also did not differ significantly （P〈0.05） between the sexes. This study provides a useful tool for fishery specialists to evaluate the relative condition of fish and to initiate early management strategies and regulations for the sustainable management of the remaining stocks of this species in the entire coastal region of southern Bangladesh.
