Tinospora cordifolia (Wild) Hook, local name: Guduchi/Amrita;English: Indian Tinospora, Hindi: Giloya/Gulancha, belongs to the family of Menispermaceae and is found in abundance in Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and China, the plant is a spreading and mounting shrub with a lot twisting branches. T. cordifolia is used in Ayurveda medicinal system and has numerous therapeutic properties. This article summarizes the chemical constituents and pharmacological properties found within the plant. The review will provide a scientific basis of its use in Ayurveda and is an informative database on an ethno-pharmacologically important medicinal plant for future researchers.

In this paper,we propose a photonic crystal fiber(PCF)polarization filter based on surface plasmon resonance(SPR)*** nanowire is used as the active plasmonic *** into silica core becomes coupled to gold nanowire stimulating SPR. It soplits light into two orthogonal(x-polarization and y-polarization)polarization in the second order of surface plasmon *** investigations of the proposed PCF filter is finite element method(FEM).By position,the performance of the propsed PCF filter is inspected *** of any polarization can be obtained by properly placing the metal *** maximum cnfinement loss of x-polarization is 692.25dB/cm and y-polarization is 1.13dB/cm offers at resonance position 1.42μ*** a confinement loss difference between two orthogonal polarizations makes PCF a talented candidate to filter ***,the recommended PCF structure is useful for polarization device.

A trial ofAvicennia officinalis L. with five different spacings was conducted in the newly accreted lands along the western coastline （Patuakhali district） of Bangladesh since 1993 to assess growth perform- ance and the effect of spacing on tree growth. Data on tree density, height, diameter, bole height, crown diameter were recorded and ana- lyzed when the stand was 19 years old. Mean height ranged from 12.89-13.52 m and diameter at breast height （dbh） from 26.57-32.16 cm in plots of different spacings. The mean annual height increment ranged from 0,67-0.71 m, mean annual diameter increment from 1.40-1.69 cm and wood volume from 6.02-10.04 ***＇*** in different treatments. Significantly greater diameter （32.16 cm） and wood volume （10.04 ***.a-1） were obtained with wider （2.13 m × 2.13 m） spacing than with closer spacings. But tree growth was unaffected by other spacings. Growth data were also recorded from other .4. officinalis plantations raised by Forest Department （FD） on different islands in Patuakhali and Bhola districts of Bangladesh. At these sites, mean annual height incre- ment ranged from 0.33-0.62 m, mean annual diameter increment from 0.72-1,37 cm and wood volume from 1.55-5.73 m3·ha-1·a·-1. The growth performance of A. offindicated that the newly aecreted lands along the western shoreline may be suitable for raising Avicennia planta- tions for the enrichment of coastal vegetation.

We investigated the morphology and germination of Tamarindus indica seeds in order to discover the ef- fects of variation in seed sources and pre-sowing treatments on germination. The experiment was carried out in the nursery of the Forestry and Wood Technology Discipline, Khulna University, Bangladesh. Seeds were collected from different but healthy trees from various locations in Bangladesh and subjected to four pre-sowing treatments, i.e., control, immersion in cold water （4℃ for 24 h）, immersion in hot water （80℃ for 10 min） and scarification with sand paper. Seed germination was carried out in poly-bags with a mixture of topsoil and cow dung in the ratio of 3：1. The average length of the fresh seeds was 1.35 ＋ 0.26 cm, their width 1.07 ＋ 0.20 cm and thickness 0.69 ＋ 0.11 cm. The results revealed that pre-sowing treatments affected the germination process of seeds, which significantly increased the germination percentage with the cold water （81.67%） and scarification with sand paper （82.33%） treatments, compared with those in the control （58.33%） and hot water treatment （59.00%）. In all treatments germination started on average within 5 to 7 days after the start of the treatments and were completed from 13 to 19 days later. The greatest success in germination （82.33%） was found in scarification with sand paper, followed with 81.67% in the cold water treatment. The results of analyses of variance （ANOVA） showed significant differences （p 〈 0.05） in germination closing dates, seed germination periods and germination percentages among the treatments but no significant difference among seed sources. However, the effect of the interaction between seed source variation and pre-treatment differed significantly in seed germination closing dates and germination percentages. We recommend cold water treatment （submersion of seed at a temperature of 4℃ for a 24-h period） for seed germination of T. indica in rural Bangladesh.

Cloud point （CP） determinations of 4-（1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl）phenyl-polyethylene glycol （TX-100 （nonionic surfactant）） was carried out in aqueous as well as in the attendance of drug （ceftriaxone sodium trihydrate （CFT））/（CFT ＋ different inorganic salts） and discussed thoroughly. Nonionic surfactants are employed exten- sively in different formulations. In aqueous solution, the values of CP of TX-100 are obtained to increase by means of enhancing of their concentration in the solution. The CP values of TX-100 solutions were found to de- crease in the presence of drug and their values decrease more with rising concentrations of the drug. The values of CP of CFT and TX-100 mixtures were found to further decrease in the attendance of inorganic salts in compar- ison to their absence. The effect of different sodium salts in decreasing CP values of TX-100 was achieved in the following order： NaCO3 〉 Na2SO4 〉 NaCl. However, in the case of potassium and ammonium salts, the decreasing order obtained is K2SO4 〉 KCO3 〉 KCI and （NH4）2SO4 〉 Na2CO3 〉 NH4Cl respectively. Various thermodynamic pa- rameters for example standard free energy （△G c）, standard enthalpy （△H c） as well as standard entropy （△S c） changes of phase separation were also evaluated and discussed in detail on the basis of their behavior.

Atomistic quantum simulation is performed to compare the performance of zero-Schottky-barrier and doped source-drain contacts carbon nanotube field effect transistors(CNTFETs) with strain applied. The doped source-drain contact CNTFETs outperform the Schottky contact devices with and without strain applied. The off-state current in both types of contact is similar with and without strain applied. This is because both types of contact offer very similar potential barrier in off-state. However, the on-state current in doped contact devices is much higher due to better modulation of on-state potential profile, and its variation with strain is sensitive to the device contact type. The on/off current ratio and the inverse subthreshold slope are better with doped source-drain contact, and their variations with strain are relatively less sensitive to the device contact type. The channel transconductance and device switching performance are much better with doped source-drain contact, and their variations with strain are sensitive to device contact type.

Anxiolytic Effects of the Methanolic Extract of <i>Bacopa monniera</i>in Mice

Bacopa monniera Linn. or Brahmi, a plant in the family Scrophulariaceae, is used as a traditional medicine for memory improvement, dementia like anxiety, depression, epilepsy etc. for a long time in Bangladesh. This study evaluated the anxiolytic effects of the methanolic extract of B. monniera (MEBM) in animal models of anxiety. For the further tests and phytochemical screening, the whole plant of B. monniera extracted following maceration method. The extract was evaluated for anxiolytic activity using light/dark box, elevated plus maze, marble burying and rota rod tests in mice at the doses of 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg body weight. Diazepam (1.0 mg/kg), an anxiolytic drug used as standard drug. MEBM showed a strong and dose-dependent anxiolytic effects in animal models of anxiety. MEBM significantly increased the time spent in the light compartment, the latency time, and the entries of open arms in light/dark and elevated plus maze tests. In addition, MEBM also significantly decreased the number of buried marbles in marble burying test and increased the time of performance in rota rod test (p < 0.05). These were the major findings of this study. Therefore, our results reported that MEBM possesses anxiolytic effects in animal models of anxiety that support the traditional use of this plant as a potent agent to combat anxiety.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused an unprecedented spike in confirmed cases in 230 countries globally. In this work, a set of data from the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak has been subjected to two well-known unsupervised learning techniques: K-means clustering and correlation. The COVID-19 virus has infected several nations, and K-means automatically looks for undiscovered clusters of those infections. To examine the spread of COVID-19 before a vaccine becomes widely available, this work has used unsupervised approaches to identify the crucial county-level confirmed cases, death cases, recover cases, total_cases_per_million, and total_deaths_per_million aspects of county-level variables. We combined countries into significant clusters using this feature subspace to assist more in-depth disease analysis efforts. As a result, we used a clustering technique to examine various trends in COVID-19 incidence and mortality across nations. This technique took the key components of a trajectory and incorporates them into a K-means clustering process. We separated the trend lines into measures that characterize various features of a trend. The measurements were first reduced in dimension, then clustered using a K-means algorithm. This method was used to individually calculate the incidence and death rates and then compare them.

Probiotics: A New Horizon for Treating Childhood Diarrhea in Bangladesh

Objectives: Probiotics are microbial cell preparations or living organisms that have a beneficial effect on the health and well being of the host. Probiotics may offer a safe intervention in acute infectious childhood diarrhea to reduce the duration and severity of the illness. In many places, probiotics are overused or misused and often given without professional jurisdiction. The present study was designed to analyze prescription patterns of probiotics in rural area of Bangladesh and to assess the effects of probiotics in proven or presumed infectious childhood diarrhea. Material and Methods: This study was conducted at Manikganj district hospital of Bangladesh from October to December 2016 to accumulate data from 430 respondents. The data were collected by taking prescription details from patients or their relatives by face to face interview with them who were willing to respond. Statistical analysis was performed using statistical software package SPSS, version 23. Results: According to current study oral rehydration therapy was found as a cornerstone for treating pediatric diarrhea. In addition, it was observed that average 3.2 drugs prescribed per encounter and more than 26.4% prescriptions contained probiotic products. Approximately 35% probiotics were prescribed by pediatricians. Bacillus and Lactobacillus were found to be the most frequently prescribed probiotic species for treating childhood diarrhea in Bangladesh. Both antibiotics and probiotics were prescribed to one-third of pediatric patients suffering from diarrhea. Only oral solid (63.7%) and oral liquid (36.3%) were prescribed as probiotic products for pediatric patients. Conclusion: It is hoped that the outputs of the present study on probiotics will be used as a science-based assessment tool for managerial decisions on probiotics. This study will help to develop the guidelines and a practical model for the industry to scientifically evaluate probiotics in food. As a national priority, it is expect
