VVER-1200 (Water-Water Energetic Reactor) represents a significant advancement in nuclear power generation, emphasizing the continuous analysis and enhancement of safety systems for reliable operation. The proposed study focuses on simulating combined scenarios involving steam generator tube rupture (SGTR) and AC power loss using core algorithms and models within personal computer transient analyzer (PCTRAN). Reactor kinetic equations, thermal-hydraulic balance, and safety system models are discussed to elucidate their role in simulating SGTR and AC power loss. Safety criteria, boundaries and initial conditions are outlined to provide a comprehensive understanding of the simulation framework. The analysis delves into dynamic behavior of VVER-1200, placing emphasis on thermal-hydraulic implications, essential reactor parameters, and radiation monitoring to facilitate impact evaluation. Continuous monitoring and maintenance of safety systems are underscored to ensure stable core cooling, particularly during proposed transient conditions. Through meticulous analysis and comparison with established benchmarks, this study contributes to bolstering the safety and reliability of VVER-1200 reactors by identifying vulnerabilities, assessing mitigation strategies, and refining emergency response protocols. Practical implications of this study offer a crucial understanding of reactor behavior, safety system performance, and emergency response strategies, thereby improving safety, optimizing operational practices, and reducing risks in nuclear reactor accidents.

Effect of Water Saving Irrigation Management Practices on Rice Productivity and Methane Emission from Paddy Field

Irrigation water supply is one of the vital components for sustainable rice farming, which is becoming a limiting resource in the changing climatic condition. An experiment was conducted at the research field of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during dry season from January-June of 2017 to investigate the suitability of Alternate Wet and Dry Irrigation (AWDI) for sustainable rice production and reducing methane emission. The modern rice variety BINA Dhan 10 was used as test crop. There were five irrigation treatments viz. T1 (saturated condition), T2 (continuous flooded, 5 cm standing water), T3 (AWDI-10 cm;irrigated when water level fell 10 cm from surface), T4 (AWDI-15 cm;irrigated when water level fell 15 cm from surface) and T5 (AWDI-20 cm;irrigated when water level fell 20 cm from surface). Results of the field trial showed satisfactory grain yield and low seasonal methane emission along with significantly high irrigation water savings (%) in AWDI treated field plots. Among the treatments, T3 (AWDI-10 cm) and T4 (AWDI-15 cm) showed higher yield performance (6250kg.ha-1 and 5810 kg.ha-1, respectively) with lower CH4 emission (reduced up to 36% and 40%, respectively) compared to continuous flooded treatment (T2, CF 5 cm water). Background: Transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) is the gold standard in the surgical treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Blood loss is one of the most common complications of TURP. Objective: To evaluate the effect of preoperative dutasteride on bleeding related to TURP in patients with BPH. Materials and Methods: This prospective interventional study was done in the department of urology, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period of July 2016 to June 2017. A total of 70 cases of BPH planned for TURP were included in this study according to the statistical calculation. Patients were randomly allocated to control group A (TURP without dutasteride) and dutasteride group B (TURP with dutasteride). Each group consisted of 35 patients. Group B patients were treated with dutasteride 0.5 mg/day for 4 weeks before TURP. The main outcome of blood loss was evaluated in terms of reduction in serum hemoglobin (Hb) and hematocrit (Hct) levels, which were measured before and 24 hours after surgery. Data were analyzed and compared by statistical tests. Results: Comparison of outcome between groups shows that there was a significant difference in term of pre-post operative change of hemoglobin and hematocrit levels in the control group A compared to the dutasteride group B (Hb = 2.96 ± 0.80 gm/dl vs. 1.81 ± 0.71 gm/dl, respectively, p = 0.001;Hct = 11.20% ± 2.12% vs. 6.07% ± 2.02%, respectively, p = 0.02). A significant lower mean blood loss was observed in the dutasteride group compared to the control group. Conclusion: Preoperative dutasteride therapy reduces blood loss related to TURP in patients with BPH. This therapy can be practiced to reduce surgical bleeding associated with TURP.

Nipah virus (NiV) is a highly infectious zoonotic pathogen that poses a significant threat to human and animal health. First identified in Malaysia in 1998, NiV has since caused several outbreaks in Southeast Asia, with sporadic cases reported in Bangladesh and India. The virus is primarily transmitted to humans through direct contact with infected animals, primarily fruit bats, or through the consumption of contaminated fruits and their juices. NiV infection presents a wide spectrum of clinical features, ranging from mild respiratory illness to severe encephalitis, with a high case fatality rate. The incubation period typically ranges from 4 to 14 days, during which patients develop fever, headache, myalgia, and respiratory symptoms such as cough and sore throat. As the disease progresses, neurological signs become prominent, including altered consciousness, seizures, and focal deficits. Severe cases may exhibit acute respiratory distress syndrome and multi organ failure. Laboratory findings often include lymphocytopenia, thrombocytopenia, and elevated liver enzymes. Diagnosis of NiV infection requires specialized laboratory testing, including reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and serological assays. Currently, no specific antiviral treatment exists for NiV infection, and management primarily focuses on supportive care. Prevention and control strategies encompass public health interventions, surveillance, and raising awareness among healthcare providers and the general population. The emergence and re-emergence of NiV highlight the urgent need for continued research, improved diagnostic capabilities, and the development of effective vaccines and therapeutics to mitigate the impact of this deadly virus.

Microplastics pollution and seawater temperature rise have been the major environmental issues,threatening the survival and biodiversity of marine *** study evaluated the combined effect of temperature and polystyrene microplastics(MP)on Artemia,a filter-feeding crustacean that is widely used for environmental toxicology *** shrimp Artemia franciscana were exposed to three MP concentrations(0,0.2,and 2.0 mg/L)and three temperatures(22,26,and 30℃)for 14 *** general,higher MP concentration and temperature led to a decreased survival rate and ***-way ANOVA analysis indicated that the survival rate of Artemia was significantly impacted by both MP concentration and temperature(P0.05).Growth of Artemia was significantly impacted by temperature(Paling that higher MP concentration could induce oxidative and immunological stress on Artemia at 30℃.Overall,our study suggests that MP and temperature have combined adverse effect on Artemia,especially at relatively high temperature and polystyrene MP *** findings are important to understand the potential ecological risks posed by these two factors on the organisms in marine environment.

Prevalence of Bovine Tuberculosis in Sheep at Sadar and Parbatipur Upazila under Dinajpur District in Bangladesh

Tuberculosis is Zoonotic disease and infected animals continue to spread the disease to other animals and humans by excreting the germs in milk, meat, feces, and respiratory droplets, this study used bPPD (Bovine purified protein derivative) to observe TST (Tuberculin skin test) reactivity in the Sheep population in the Sadar and Parbatipur Upazilas of Dinajpur District. The research conducted from January to June of 2018. There is no history for sheep tuberculosis in the study area. Overall, 5 percent (7/140) of 140 sheep were positive, 15% (21/140) were doubtful, and 80% (112/140) were negative based on sex, age, breed, and body condition score, while lactation stage and reproduction status prevalence was 6.4 percent, 14.9 percent, and 78.7% positive, doubtful, and negative, respectively. Our findings suggest the presence of a skin test reaction response when employing the bPPD reagent, but this needs to be validated by pathological and serological techniques. Nevertheless, my preliminary investigation suggests that abattoirs must implement effective control systems and raise public awareness.

Pavement management systems(PMS)are used by transportation government agencies to promote sustainable development and to keep road pavement conditions above the minimum performance levels at a reasonable *** accomplish this objective,the pavement condition is monitored to predict deterioration and determine the need for maintenance or rehabilitation at the appropriate *** pavement condition index(PCI)is a commonly usedmetric to evaluate the pavement's *** research aims to create and evaluate prediction models for PCI values using multiple linear regression(MLR),artificial neural networks(ANN),and fuzzy logic inference(FIS)models for flexible pavement *** authors collected field data spans for 2018 and *** pavement distress factors were considered inputs for predicting PCI values,such as rutting,fatigue cracking,block cracking,longitudinal cracking,transverse cracking,patching,potholes,and *** study evaluates the performance of the three techniques based on the coefficient of determination,root mean squared error(RMSE),and mean absolute error(MAE).The results show that the R2 values of the ANN models increased by 51.32%,2.02%,36.55%,and 3.02%compared toMLR and FIS(2018 and 2021).The error in the PCI values predicted by the ANNmodel was significantly lower than the errors in the prediction by the FIS and MLR models.

Risk Factors Associated with Various Subtypes of Ischemic Stroke: A Prospective Study in BSMMU, Dhaka, Bangladesh

Introduction: Stroke is the main cause of adult disability and the second most leading cause of death worldwide. The number of deaths due to stroke is 5.54 million worldwide. Globally, 70% of strokes and 87% of both stroke-related deaths and disability-adjusted life years occur in low and middle-income countries. Method: This was a prospective observational cross-sectional study conducted at Indoor, Outdoor, Stroke and Neuro-Intervention clinic of the Department of Neurology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital (BSMMU), Dhaka, Bangladesh, from June-2019 to May-2020. A total of 220 ischemic stroke patients aged above 30 years confirmed by CT scan/MRI of brain. Data were collected with a pre-structured questionnaire from the patients, investigations reports and face-to-face interviews and analyzed using IBM SPSS software version 23.0. Proper consent was taken from the participants. The collected data were ANNOVA tests and association within the risk factors and the patterns of subtypes of ischemic stroke where P Results: Among the 220 stroke patients, large-artery atherosclerosis (LAA), cardio-embolism (CE), small-vessel occlusion (SVO, stroke of other determined etiology (SODE) and stroke of undetermined etiology (SUDE) were being observed 84 (38.18%), 14 (6.36%), 63 (28.64%), 12 (5.45%) and 47 (18.18%). Eighty-Six (39.09%) prevalence of subtypes was found in rural areas whereas 134 (60.91%) were in urban areas. The significant risk factors are associated with the prevalence of various subtypes (p Conclusion: This study prevails the people of Bangladesh are vulnerable to various subtypes of ischemic stroke. The higher prevalence of large-artery atherosclerosis (LAA) in our patients suggests the presence of uncontrolled hypertension, diabetes mellitus, smoking habit and dyslipidemia.

Because of the great importance of thermal instability in nature, in chemical processes, in separation processes, in industrial applications as well as in geophysical and astrophysical engineering, the effect of thermal diffusion on the combined MHD heat transfer in an unsteady flow past a continuously moving semi-infinite vertical porous plate which is subjected to constant heat has been investigated numerically under the action of strong applied magnetic field taking into account the induced magnetic field. This study is performed for cooling problem with lighter and heavier particles. Numerical solutions for the velocity field, induced magnetic field as well as temperature distribution are obtained for associated parameters using the explicit finite difference method. The obtained results are also discussed with the help of graphs to observe effects of various parameters on the above mentioned quantities.

Investigation of the Physical Properties of Jute Blended Yarn Using a Novel Approach in Spinning Process

This work reports the successful outcomes to process the polyester, acrylic and wool fiber along with jute fiber exclusively using existing jute processing machineries for manufacturing the 241 tex jute blended yarn. The blending was performed at feeding stage of breaker carding machine and blending ratio of jute and polyester/acrylic/wool fibers is 80:20. Manufacturing of jute blended yarns will create a new opportunity for extending the uses of jute fibers in value added jute products. The present work is concerned with the investigation of physical properties such as tenacity, elongation % at break, quality ratio, unevenness, imperfections (thick, thin & neps) and hairiness of manufactured jute blended yarns. The jute-polyester (80/20) blended yarn shows the higher strength and more evenness compared to jute-acrylic (80/20), jute-wool (80/20) blended and 100% jute yarn.
