Geochemical Color Maps of the Dhaka Water, Bangladesh—New Map Presentations for Toxic Metals and Isotopes

This research investigated the water qualities and distribution of heavy metals concentration in rain, river, ground and supply waters, providing a baseline in Dhaka Urban, Bangladesh, against which future changes can be assessed. The water sample was collected in the Dhaka central zone, from a site located in the center of the Bengal Delta plain between 23䓨'N - 23䓶'N latitude and 90䓔'E - 90䓟'E longitude which is affected by environmental pollution for high traffic, industrialization and because of its rapid urbanization. The water samples were analyzed for heavy metals by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass-Spectrometry (ICP-MS), major ions by Ion-Chromatography (IC), water tracer (δ18O and δD) by Mass-Spectrometry (MS), following the standard techniques. Elevated EC and chloride (Cl-) are the markers of wastewater, providing an indication of impacts in the Buriganga River water. The relative concentrations of major ions were presented in the form of Piper and Stiff Diagram. The color maps were constructed to present ions distribution over the areas. The stream reaches directly in Buriganga River from leather industries which may reflect the naturally low dissolved oxygen (DO) 0.3 - 3.5 (mg/L), where aquatic life can’t survive. Uranium contents U238 (0.1 - 2.7 μg/L) are not exceeding the WHO guideline level of 30 μg·L-1. Significant portion of Cs133 (0.05 - 0.32 μg/L), Se (0.03 - 0.12 μg/L), B (50 - 2986 μg/L) and Cr (0.55 - 18.59 μg/L), could be increased in Buriganga River areas by the effect of local sources like leather industry. Zn (10 - 1466 μg/L) in the Dhaka Rain and Pb (4 - 6 μg/L) in Dhaka Water occur mainly in industrial and the high traffic areas, respectively. The isotopic (δ18O/δD) distributions have been evaluated for understanding of contaminant sources in groundwater and wastewater recharge from Buriganga River to adjacent depleted groundwater system. Design and analysis of high birefringence and nonlinearity with small confinement loss photonic crystal fiber

High birefringence with low confinement loss photonic crystal fiber (PCF) has significant advantages in the field of sensing, dispersion compensation devices, nonlinear applications, and polarization filter. In this report, two different models of PCFs are presented and compared. Both the models contain five air holes rings with combination of circular and elliptical air holes arrangement. Moreover, the elliptical shaped air holes polarization and the third ring air holes rotational angle are varied. To examine different guiding characteristics, finite element method (FEM) with perfectly matched layer (PML) absorbing boundary condition is applied from 1.2 to 1.8 |im wavelength range. High birefringence, low confinement loss, high nonlinearity, and moderate disper-sion values are successfully achieved in both the PCFs models. Numeric analysis shows that model-1 gives higher birefringence (2.75 ×10^-2) and negative dispersion (-540.67 ps/(nm ·km)) at 1.55 |im wavelength. However, model-2 gives more small confinement loss than model-1 at the same wavelength. In addition, the proposed design demonstrates the variation of rotation angle has great impact to enhance guiding properties especially the birefringence.

Synergistic enhancement of photocatalytic and antimicrobial efficacy of nitrogen and erbium co-doped ZnO nanoparticles

Using the chemical co-precipitation approach,a series of nitrogen(N) and erbium(Er) co-doped ZnO nanoparticles(NPs) was effectively synthesized to enhance the photocatalytic and antibacterial *** characterization techniques,including X-ray diffraction(XRD),X-ray photoelectron spectro scopy(XPS),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),UV-vis,and photoluminescence(PL) spectroscopy,were carried out to validate the evaluated photocatalytic and antibacterial *** analysis confirms the pure wurtzite ZnO phase without the presence of any secondary *** analysis confirms the succe ssful incorporation of nitrogen and erbium into the ZnO *** optical bandgap of ZnO calculated from UV-vis spectroscopy shows a redshift after Er-N co-doping,with the lowest bandgap of 3.215 eV calculated for Zn_(0.97)Er_(0.03)N_(0.01)O_(0.99) *** images demonstrate the formation of nanorods after N-Er co-doping,followed by gradually increase d rod diameter and length after N-Er ***,the photocatalytic activities of ZnO samples we re measured by their ability to facilitate the photodegradation of Rhodamine B under UV *** with 1 mol% N doping exhibits 88% photodegradation of RhB under UV light within 360 min,and the photodegradation and antibacterial activity are greatly improved with Er *** fact,3 mol% Er-1 mol% N doped ZnO NPs demonstrate the highest photocatalytic activity,with approximately 96% degradation after 360 min,as well as superior antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus(Gram-positive bacteria) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa(Gram-negative bacteria) with the highest zone of inhibition(ZOI) of 16 nm,due to nanorod formation,increased reactive oxygen species(ROS),and decreased electron-hole recombination,as validated by SEM,XPS,and PL spectroscopy.

Adverse Effects of Allelopathy from Legume Crops and Its Possible Avoidance

Plant releases many bioactive chemicals from its various parts such as leaves, stem, root and sometimes decomposed body through different mechanism into its surrounding environment. These bioactive chemicals are often termed as allelochemicals because they interact with the surrounding environment. This interaction is either positive or negative. Effects of allelochemicals to the agricultural and biological ecosystem are well documented. In leguminosae family many species are involved in releasing of allelochemicals. Many researchers found that this allelochemicals have both positive and detrimental effects on the successive legume crops. Legume monoculture is common in many parts of the world where they cause a numbers of ecological and economic problems such as decline in crop yield due to soil sickness, regeneration failure and replant problem. These negative effects of allelochemicals open a great concern on allelopathy research. This article reviews the adverse effects of allelochemicals, their extraction and isolation, mechanism inside the plant body. These all are done to find out the possible selection methods of succeeding crops to avoid the allelopathic effects in the next crop of a monoculture farm field. The main purpose of this article is to highlight the adverse allelopathic effects of legume crops to provide ways for sustainable development in agro-ecosystem.

Knowledge Level about HIV/AIDS among the Villagers of Comilla District, Bangladesh

The HIV/AIDS epidemic has grown on an unprecedented scale since it was first recognized, and presently it is considered as a well known global public health crisis. In making the health policy where millions of populations are at risk, it is necessary to understand the knowledge level about HIV/AIDS. So, this study aimed at to investigate the knowledge level about HIV/AIDS among the villagers. Data and necessary information were collected from one hundred villagers of Salmanpur from Comilla district, Bangladesh through a structured questionnaire. The collected data were used for univariate analysis, to carry out the description of the variables;and to justify the total score of knowledge about HIV/AIDS among the respondents, Cronbach’s alpha (α) was calculated. The results revealed that almost all the respondents (92.00%) were ever heard about HIV/AIDS and half of them (51.00%) were known it as a communicable disease. Majority of the respondents (62.00%) believed that it is caused by heterosexual relation as well as sex with HIV positive persons. However, a good number of respondents were found unaware about the major causes and preventive ways of AIDS. Less than half of the respondents (45.00%) had medium knowledge (α = 0.34 - 0.66) and only 36.00% had the enough knowledge about HIV/AIDS. The knowledge level is increasing with the increase of education level, and the respondents who involved in agricultural works are found the lowest knowledge level (47.00%) about HIV/AIDS. The villagers were known about HIV/AIDS but they do not have accurate information about the ways in which AIDS virus can or cannot be transmitted. Therefore, effective programs should be taken to increase the knowledge level about HIV/AIDS among the villagers in Bangladesh.

A New Approach of Solving Linear Fractional Programming Problem (LFP) by Using Computer Algorithm

In this paper, we study a new approach for solving linear fractional programming problem (LFP) by converting it into a single Linear Programming (LP) Problem, which can be solved by using any type of linear fractional programming technique. In the objective function of an LFP, if βis negative, the available methods are failed to solve, while our proposed method is capable of solving such problems. In the present paper, we propose a new method and develop FORTRAN programs to solve the problem. The optimal LFP solution procedure is illustrated with numerical examples and also by a computer program. We also compare our method with other available methods for solving LFP problems. Our proposed method of linear fractional programming (LFP) problem is very simple and easy to understand and apply.

Impulsively Started Horizontal Riga Plate Embedded in Unsteady Casson Fluid Flow with Rotation

This article is based on the impulsively started horizontal Riga plate in two dimensional unsteady Casson fluid flows with rotation. The plate starts abruptly from the rest relative to the rotating fluids moving with uniform acceleration in its plane. Numerical solutions are acquired by using explicit finite difference method and estimated results have been gained for various values of the Rotational parameter, modified Hartmann number, Prandtl number, Radiative parameter, Eckert number, Heat source parameter, Schmidt number, and the Soret number. Both the Compaq visual FORTRAN 6.6a and MATLAB R2015a tools have been used to find the numerical solutions and the graphical presentation. The Skin friction, Nusselt number and Sherwood number have been computed and the effects of some pertinent parameters on various distributions are discussed briefly and presented graphically.

This paper aims at treating a study of Banach fixed point theorem for mapping results that introduced in the setting of normed space. The classical Banach fixed point theorem is a generalization of this work. A fixed point theory is a beautiful mixture of Mathematical analysis to explain some conditions in which maps give excellent solutions. Here later many mathematicians used this fixed point theory to establish their results, see for instance, Picard-Lindel of Theorem, The Picard theorem, Implicit function theorem etc. Also, we developed ideas that many of known fixed point theorems can easily be derived from the Banach theorem. It extends some recent works on the extension of Banach contraction principle to metric space with norm spaces.

A Study of Caristi’s Fixed Point Theorem on Normed Space and Its Applications

In this work, we will discuss Caristi’s fixed point theorem for mapping results introduced in the setting of normed spaces. This work is a generalization of the classical Caristi’s fixed point theorem. Also, Caristi’s type of fixed points theorem was partial discussed in Reich, Mizoguchi and Takahashi’s and Amini-Harandi’s results, we developed ideas that many known fixed point theorems can easily be derived from the Caristi theorem.
