Radiology education and training is of paramount clinical importance given the prominence of medical imaging utilization in effective clinical *** incorporation of basic radiology in the medical curriculum has continued to evolve,focusing on teaching image interpretation skills,the appropriate ordering of radiological investigations,judicious use of ionizing radiation,and providing exposure to interventional *** in radiology have been driven by the digital revolution,which has,in turn,had a positive impact on radiology education and *** the advent of the corona virus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic,many training institutions and hospitals adhered to directives which advised rescheduling of non-urgent outpatient *** inevitably impacted the workflow of the radiology department,which resulted in the reduction of clinical in-person case reviews and consultations,as well as in-person teaching *** medical schools and research centers completely suspended face-to-face academic *** led to challenges for medical teachers to complete the radiology syllabus while ensuring that teaching activities continued safely and *** a result,online teaching platforms have virtually replaced didactic face-to-face *** educators also sought other strategies to incorporate interactive teaching sessions while adopting the e-learning approach,as they were cognizant of the limitations that this may have on students’clinical *** to online methods to review live cases,journal clubs,simulation-based training,clinical interaction,and radiology examination protocolling are a few examples of successfully addressing the limitations in reduced clinical *** this review paper,we discuss(1)The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on radiology education,training,and practice;(2)Challenges and strategies involved in delivering online radiology education for undergraduates and postgraduates d

Comparison of GFR by Creatinine Clearance with Estimated GFR by Various Prediction Equations in a Bangladeshi Population

Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is considered as the best marker of kidney function. Evaluation of various prediction equations to estimate GFR is rare in our population. The aim of this study was to compare GFR estimated by various prediction equations with GFR by creatinine clearance (GFRcr) in Bangladeshi population. Serum creatinine and 24 hours urinary creatinine concentrations were measured in 216 adult Bangladeshi subjects (100 males and 116 females). Creatinine clearance rate was calculated and adjusted for body surface area to obtain GFRcr. GFR was also calculated by CKD-EPI, md.D4, Cockcroft-Gault, Jelliffe, Mawer, Bjornsson, Gates, Apollo-Chennai and Mayo Clinic prediction equations and compared with GFRcr. Results were expressed as mean ± SD and compared by two-tailed paired t-test, precision (r2) and receiver-operating characteristic curve. Mean ± SD of age of the total subjects was 57.15 ± 10.96 years. The mean GFRcr was 42.41 ± 22.95 mL/min/1.73m2. Estimated GFR (eGFR) by CKD-EPI, md.D4, Cockcroft-Gault, Jelliffe 1, Jelliffe 2, Mawer, Bjornsson, Gates, Apollo-Chennai and Mayo Clinic prediction equations were 8.19 ± 13.80, 5.30 ± 13.61, 11.54 ± 16.86, 8.66 ± 18.64, 17.25 ± 19.98, 10.86 ± 22.48, 14.60 ± 17.92, 12.18 ± 16.42, 39.86 ± 21.96 and 20.47 ± 20.49 mL/min/1.73m2 higher than GFRcr (P md.D4, Cockcroft-Gault, Jelliffe 1, Jelliffe 2, Mawer, Bjornsson, Gates, Apollo-Chennai and Mayo Clinic prediction equations, respectively. The area under receiver-operating characteristic curve was the lowest for md.D4 equation. This study revealed that GFR estimated by standardized md.D4 variables equation is closer to creatinine clearance rate in the study population.

Investigation on Fire Protection System of Highrise Buildings in the Context of Bir Uttam Aminul haque Avenue in Dhaka, Bangladesh

Rapid high-rise building construction of different occupancies is becoming popular in Dhaka due to its economic gain and functional flexibility. Fire prevention poses a significant difficulty to this type of construction due to its complexity and economic worth as well. Therefore, construction of high-rise building without following the proper fire safety measures, is a common practice at present in the city and it poses a greater threat to urban life considering its associated loss. Even though, most of the owners or authorities do not respect the construction code and the majority of them lack sufficient awareness and basic fire control knowledge and practice. More often, they are unable to comprehend the magnitude and severity of severe fire hazards, and recognize the causes and implementing effective mitigation measures are rare. As a result, the number of fire hazard in high-rise construction is increasing day by day. Hence, investigating the present condition of high-rise buildings (already built) in terms of Fire Protection System is imperative to prevent the upcoming fire hazard. An urban chunk of 33 plots along with Bir Uttam Aminul haque Avenue, located in Banani, has been chosen for the study area considering its vulnerability to fire hazard. Among these buildings, STAR Tower and HBR Tower, these two high-rise buildings are assessed thoroughly using FRI (Fire Risk Index) Method. The method is semi-quantitative in nature with seventeen parameters associated with fire protection. This assessment represents a scenario in what extent fire codes are being followed in the selected area. It concludes that most of the buildings lack in providing protection against fire hazards for not following the code strictly. This research provides some recommendations which can be followed to improve the fire safety measures in this existing context. Breast Asymmetry Evaluation Using Objective Measures after Breast Cancer Surgery

Although a positive cosmetic outcome is an important goal of breast cancer reconstruction, the objective analysis of breast aesthetics has yet to reach a gold standard or unified method to quantify breast symmetry. Several scoring systems, both subjective and objective, have been developed over the years to ensure the desirable outcome in breast symmetry, but these methods have yet to reach the unanimous acceptance in terms of accuracy, value and ease of use to be implemented in the clinical setting. By assessing several existing symmetry scores, most of which are based on 2D imaging, along with our own set of symmetry parameters applied to 3D patient images, the goal of this study is to determine if there is an advantage of 3D imaging in formulating an accurate objective breast aesthetic score over the existing objective scores. A reliable breast aesthetic score would improve the decision-making in surgery as well as improve patient satisfaction. Additionally, knowing the quantity and degree of breast asymmetry objectively will improve outcome and reduce revision rates, minimizing patient suffering and improving the overall quality of patient life and body image.

This study investigated whether there was any chromosomal structural rearrangement in individual chromosome of two mutant lines of onion viz.,BP2-100/1 and BP2-100/2 compared to the parental chromosomes which may explain the seed to seed productions of the mutants in the same winter season even at late planting in January unlike the parent *** chromosome preparation was made from the root tip by haematoxylin *** deviation in the number of chromosomes was found in the mutant lines but the length of the individual chromosomes was longer than that of their parent *** of the eight pairs of homologous chromosomes,seven pairs were metacentric and one pair submetacentric in the parent“BARI Piaz-2”;five pairs were metacentric and three pairs submetacentric in BP2-100/1;and three pairs were metacentric,three pairs submetacentric and two pairs of subtelocentric in BP2-100/*** was assumed that the length extension of the chromosomes and rearrangements in the arm ratio were due to gamma irradiation that induced duplication and or translocations of some regions of the *** research is needed to identify the induced genes and to establish relationships of the genes with the modified seed production behavior of the mutants.

Natural contamination of human hands with enteric parasites in Indian Subcontinent

AIM: To investigate the prevalence of enteric parasite contamination on hands and the potential role naturally contaminated hands may have in their transmission. METHODS: Prior to initiating the survey, the protocol was reviewed and approved by respective Institutional Review Boards of each survey site(Dhaka, Bangladesh and Kolkata, India). Both stool and corresponding hand wash samples collected, were analyzed for the presence of enteric parasitic ova/(oo)cysts employing conventional microscopy coupled with permanent staining techniques. Additionally molecular approachessuch as polymerase chain reaction(PCR) of enteric parasites recovered from both stool and corresponding hand wash samples, were also used to further confirm their identity. RESULTS: A total of 972 stool samples were collected from both sites surveyed(300 volunteers from Kolkata, India and 672 from Dhaka, Bangladesh). Parasitic analysis revealed, 113(38%) from Kolkata, India and 267(40%) of stool samples from Dhaka, Bangladesh were positive for parasitic ova/(oo)cysts. When the corresponding hand wash samples were analyzed, 43(14%) stool-positive volunteers in Kolkata, India and 47(7%) in Dhaka, Bangladesh were positive for enteric parasitic ova/(oo)cysts. Ascaris lumbricoides(A. lumbricoides) ova and Giardia lamblia(G. lamblia) cysts predominated in hands wash samples from both sites surveyed(from India, A. lumbricoides ova, 53%; G. lamblia cysts 31% and from Bangladesh, A. lumbricoides ova, 47%; G. lamblia cysts 19%). Genotypic analysis of enteric parasitic ova/(oo)cysts obtained from both stool and corresponding hand wash samples taken from the same person were found to be identical. CONCLUSION: These results suggest a possible role of hands contaminated with enteric parasites' ova/(oo)cysts in the transmission of these parasites highlighting another role of hand hygiene/proper hand washing in reducing the disease burden in low socioeconomic communities.
