Assessment of BRRI Whole Feed Combine Harvester (Model BRRI WCH2021) for Mechanized Rice Harvesting in Bangladesh

Agricultural mechanization plays a pivotal role in the transition from subsistence to commercial agriculture, with a particular focus on labour-intensive activities like harvesting. This study assesses the operational characteristics of the BRRI Whole Feed Combine Harvester (Model BRRI WCH2021) at the field level. Developed under the SFMRA project, the harvester’s technical performance and loss assessment were conducted during the Boro 2022 and Aman 2022 seasons in farmer fields in Bangladesh’s Rangpur region. The field efficiency of the harvester was determined to be 62.5% and 57.9% in the Boro and Aman seasons, respectively. Fuel consumption rates were recorded at 2.77 l/ha and 2.31 l/ha for the Boro and Aman seasons. The total harvesting losses, encompassing cutter bar, shatter, cylinder, and separation loss, averaged 0.56% and 0.48% in the Boro and Aman seasons, respectively. Mechanized harvesting with the BRRI Whole Feed Combine Harvester significantly reduced paddy losses by 5.81% compared to manual methods. The field evaluation results indicate the combine harvester’s satisfactory performance, highlighting its potential to alleviate labour demands during peak harvesting. The development of the BRRI WCH offers a sustainable solution for rice harvesting mechanization among progressive farmers. It paves the way for the broader adoption of advanced agricultural technology in Bangladesh.

Biomass and net primary productivity of mangrove communities along the Oligohaline zone of Sundarbans, Bangladesh

Background： The article presents the first estimates of biomass and productivity for mangrove forests along the Oligohaline zone of the Sundarbans Reserve Forest （SRF）, Bangladesh. This study was conducted overone year from March 2016 to April 20] 7. Stand structure, above and below-ground biomass changes, and litterfall production were measured within a 2100 m2 sample plot. Methods： All trees in the study plots were numbered and height （H） and diameter at breast height （DBH） were measured. Tree height （H） and DBH for each tree were measured in March 2016 and 2017. We apply the above and belowground biomass equation for estimating the biomass of the mangrove tree species （Chave et al. Oecologia 145：87-99, 2005; Komiyama et al. J Trop Ecol 21：471-477, 2005）. Litterfall was collected using 1-mm mesh litter traps with collection area of 0.42 m2. Net Primary Production （NPP） was estimated by the summation method of Ogawa Primary productivity of Japanese forests： productivity of terrestrial communities, JIBP synthesis （1977） and Matsuura and Kajimoto Carbon dynamics of terrestrial ecosystem： Systems approach to global environment （2013）. Results： Heritiero fomes has maintained its dominance of the stand and also suffered the highest tree mortality （2.4%） in the suppressed crown class. The total above-ground biomass （AGB） and below-ground biomass （BGB） of the studied stand was ]54.8 and 84.2 ***-1, respectively. Among the total biomass of the trees, 64.8% was allocated to AGB and 35.2% to BGB. In case of species-wise contribution of biomass allocation, Avicennia officinalis showed the highest score and Aglaia cucullota the lowest. Mean annual total litterfall was 10.1 Mg-ha ***-1, with the maximum litterfall in winter or dry season and late summer or rainy season. The mean AGB increment and above-ground net primary productivity （AGNPP） were 7.1 and 17.2 ***-1, respectively. Stand structure, phenology and litterfall dynamics of a subtropical mangrove Bruguiera gymnorrhiza

We evaluated the phenology and litterfall dynamics of the mangrove Bruguiera gymnorrhiza（L.）Lamk along the Okukubi River, Okinawa Island, *** 3 years, this species showed the highest litterfall of leaves and stipules in summer and the lowest litterfall in winter. From Kendall＇s coefficient of concordance, the monthly changes in leaf, stipule, and branch were strongly and significantly concordant among years. Leaf and stipule litterfall could be governed by monthly maximum wind speed, monthly day length, and monthly mean air temperature. Branch litterfall depended on monthly maximum wind speed and monthly rainfall, and increased exponentially with increasing monthly maximum wind speed. Mean total litterfall was 11.8 Mg ha^（-1）yr^（-1）, with the largest component being leaf litterfall（65.8 %）. Annual leaf litterfall per plot was almost constant regardless of the tree density of the plot. Mean leaf longevity was 18 *** and mature propagule litterfall might be influenced by monthly mean air temperature, monthly day length and monthly mean air temperature. The average development periods from flower buds to flowers and flower buds to mature propagules were 1 and 8 months, *** for leaf and branch, all vegetative and reproductive organ litterfall had clear annual cycles. B. gymnorrhiza showed a positive correlation between leaf production and reproductive organ production.

Mechanical and thermodynamical stability of BiVO4 polymorphs using first-principles study

First principles calculations of structural, electronic, mechanical, and thermodynamic properties of different poly- morphs of BiVO4 are performed using Bender-type plane/wave ultrasoft pseudopotentials within the generalized gradient approximation （GGA） in the flame of density functional theory （DFT）. The calculated structural and electronic properties are consistent with the previous theoretical and experimental results. The electronic structures reveal that m-BiVO4, op- BiVO4, and st-BiVO4 have indirect band gaps, on the other hand, zt-BiVO4 has a direct band gap. From the DOS and Mulliken＇s charge analysis, it is observed that only m-BiVO4 has 6s2 Bi lone pair. Bond population analysis indicates that st-BiVO4 shows a more ionic nature and a similar result is obtained from the elastic properties. From the elastic prop- erties, it is observed that st-BiVO4 is more mechanically stable than the others, st-BiVO4 is more ductile and useful for high electro-optical and electro-mechanical coupling devices. Our calculated thermodynamic properties confirm the similar characteristics found from electronic and elastic properties, m-BiVO4 is useful as photocatalysts, solid state electrolyte, and electrode and other polymorphs are applicable in electronic device fabrications.

In this paper, vector autoregressive （VAR） models have been recognized for the selected indicators of Dhaka stock exchange （DSE）. Bangladesh uses the micro economic variables, such as stock trade, invested stock capital, stock volume, current market value, and DSE general indexes which have the direct impact on DSE prices. The data were collected for the period from June 2004 to July 2013 as the basis on daily scale. But to get the maximum explorative information and reduction of volatility, the data have been transformed to the monthly scale. The outliers and extreme values of the study variables are detected through box and whisker plot. To detect the unit root property of the study variables, various unit root tests have been applied. The forecast performance of the different VAR models is compared to have the minimum residual. Moreover, the dynamics of this financial market is analyzed through Granger causality and impulse response analysis.

Econometric Investigation of DSE＇s Portfolios through Selective Micro and Macro Economic Indicators

This paper examines the impact of the portfolios of Dhaka Stock Exchange （DSE） with corresponding to the selective macro and micro economic indicators of Bangladesh. The microeconomic indicators are Invested Market Capital （1MC）（US$） and the number of Total Enlisted Company （TEC） which have direct and immediate impact on the Stock Turnover Ratio （STR） of DSE and the macroeconomic indicators are Gross Domestic Product （GDP）, Gross National Income （GNI）, Gross Saving （GS）, Gross Inflation （GI）, Deposit Interest Rate （DIR）, and Gross Foreign Investment （GFI） which have indirect and long run impact on DSE portfolios. To investigate the direct impact on DSE＇s turnover ratio, the Cobb-Douglas production function is applied and to investigate the indirect and long run impact, multiple linear regression models are also applied. The estimated results are diagnosed using magnitudes of derivatives, gradient and Wald＇s coefficient restriction with respect to the macro and micro economic indicators.

ARIMA With GARCH Family Modeling and Projection on Share Volume of DSE

A suitable statistical model has been explored for the investors as well as the researchers to resolve the future estimation of share volume by using daily stock volume data from Dhaka Stock Exchange （DSE）. The daily volume data from the June 1, 2004 to April 19, 2010 were retrieved from DSE website as a secondary data source. The Maximum Likelihood---Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity （ARCH）（Marquardt） method has been applied to construct the models for the stock volume data of DSE by using statistical package software E-Views of verson-5. First of all, an ＂Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average （ARIMA） model＂ was fitted and observed that heteroscedastic volatilities were still present there. To eliminate this dilemma, ARCH class of volatility models has been used and finally the ARIMA with EGARCH model has been explored. Findings of this study have recognized that ARIMA with EGARCH model implies low mean square error, low mean absolute error, low bias proportion, and low variance proportion for share volume data with comparing to other models. Hence, the modelling concept established in this study would be a decisive study for the investors as well as the researchers.
