Use of Gramoxone 20SL (Paraquat) Prior to Land Preparation in Controlling Aquatic Weeds in Wetland Areas of Bangladesh

Emergent aquatic weeds present in the monocropped fresh water wetland area of Bangladesh create a hazard in land preparation by developing dense stands. A field experiment was conducted at the farmers’ field of two villages namely Mahilara and Kashemabad under Gournadi Upazila of Barisal district, Bangladesh during October 2012 to evaluate the efficacy of Gramoxone 20SL (Paraquat) in controlling emergent aquatic weeds and to find out an appropriate dose of this herbicide. Three doses of Gramoxone 20SL at 1.96 l·ha-1, 2.00 l·ha-1 and 2.04 l·ha-1 were tried with an untreated control. All treatments were laid out in a randomized complete block design and replicated thrice. There were 8 different emergent weed species infesting the field among which the most dominant weed species were Eichhornia crassipes, Pistia stratiotes, Enhydra fluctuans, Monochoria vaginalis, Echinochloa crus-galli. The results revealed that, weed control efficiency was significantly affected by different herbicidal treatments. The treatments, Gramoxone 20SL at 2.00 l·ha-1 and 2.04 l·ha-1 were controlled in all the emergent aquatic weeds more than 85% infesting both the sites. Application of non-selective herbicide Gramoxone 20SL at 2.00 l·ha-1 prior to land preparation was most effective to suppress weed dry masses in both the site resulting reduced land preparation cost up to 78.93% as compared to manual weed control.

Designing an Effective Method for Automatic Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in a Static Environment

This article outlines an Effective Method for Automatic Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in a Static Environment. It consists of investigated wireless transformer structures with various ferrite forms. WPT technology has rapidly advanced in the last few years. At kilowatt power levels, the transmission distance grows from a few millimeters to several hundred millimeters with a grid to load efficiency greater than 90%. The improvements have made the WPT more appealing for electric vehicle (EV) charging applications in both static and dynamic charging scenarios. Static and dynamic WEVCS, two of the main applications, are described, and current developments with features from research facilities, academic institutions, and businesses are noted. Additionally, forthcoming concepts based WEVCS are analyzed and examined, including “dynamic” wireless charging systems (WCS). A dynamic wireless power transfer (DWPT) system, which can supply electricity to moving EVs, is one of the feasible alternatives. The moving secondary coil is part of the dynamic WPT system, which also comprises of many fixed groundside (primary) coils. An equivalent circuit between the stationary system and the dynamic WPT system that results from the stationary system is demonstrated by theoretical investigations. The dynamic WPT system’s solenoid coils outperform circular coils in terms of flux distribution and misalignment. The WPT-related EV wireless charging technologies were examined in this study. WPT can assist EVs in overcoming their restrictions on cost, range, and charging time.

Post Thyroidectomy Assessment of Intact Parathyroid Hormone for Early Prediction of Hypocalcaemia

Background: As the half-life of intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) is very low, it reflects parathyroid insufficiency within minutes to hours after total thyroidectomy. Therefore, iPTH level assessment in the postoperative period can be used to predict the development of hypocalcaemia. The optimal time point to measure serum iPTH is important for the accurate prediction of hypocalcaemia. Aim: This paper aims to evaluate the ability of iPTH as an early predictive marker of hypocalcaemia and determine which time iPTH is more able to predict postoperative hypocalcaemia. Method: This prospective observational study was conducted in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, BSMMU, Dhaka, from July 2020 to December 2021, with 67 patients who underwent total thyroidectomy. iPTH levels were measured on the day before the operation and at 1 hour, 4 hours, and 24 hours after the operation. *** levels were measured on the day before the operation and 1st postoperative day. All the data were compiled and sorted properly and were analyzed statistically. Results: Postoperative hypocalcaemia developed in 18 cases, with an incidence of 26.9%. Pearson correlation showed a significant correlation between postoperative iPTH at 1 hr, 4 h, and 24 hr with 1st postoperative calcium value. The Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was processed for the postoperative iPTH at 1 hr, 4 h, and 24 hr. The sensitivity, specificity, cut-off value, and mean AUC found 93.9%, 94.4%, ≤14.0, 0.988;95.9%, 94.4%, ≤09.5, 0.993 and 91.8%, 94.4%, ≤11.0, 0.993 respectively. Conclusion: iPTH can be used as an early predictor of post-thy-roidectomy hypocalcaemia. 4 hr iPTH showed more sensitivity and specificity for a cut-off value near the laboratory reference range.

Traumatic brain injury(TBI)is an acquired injury of the brain caused by the impact of external forces on the brain(Maas et al.,2008).It is a major cause of death and disability among people of all ages(Maas et al.,2008).The primary mechanical injury to the brain initiates a cascade of secondary biochemical events that lead to acute and chronic neurodegeneration and activation of inflammatory pathways(Maas et al.,2008).Both brain-resident microglia and blood-derived myeloid cells-macrophages and monocytes that infiltrate the brain due to injury-induced blood-brain barrier damage,contribute to the inflammatory responses after TBI(Morganti et al.,2015).

Prediction of Attention and Short-Term Memory Loss by EEG Workload Estimation

Mental workload plays a vital role in cognitive impairment. The impairment refers to a person’s difficulty in remembering, receiving new information, learning new things, concentrating, or making decisions that seriously affect everyday life. In this paper, the simultaneous capacity (SIMKAP) experiment-based EEG workload analysis was presented using 45 subjects for multitasking mental workload estimation with subject wise attention loss calculation as well as short term memory loss measurement. Using an open access preprocessed EEG dataset, Discrete wavelet transforms (DWT) was utilized for feature extraction and Minimum redundancy and maximum relevancy (MRMR) technique was used to select most relevance features. Wavelet decomposition technique was also used for decomposing EEG signals into five sub bands. Fourteen statistical features were calculated from each sub band signal to form a 5 × 14 window size. The Neural Network (Narrow) classification algorithm was used to classify dataset for low and high workload conditions and comparison was made using some other machine learning models. The results show the classifier’s accuracy of 86.7%, precision of 84.4%, F1 score of 86.33%, and recall of 88.37% that crosses the state-of-the art methodologies in the literature. This prediction is expected to greatly facilitate the improved way in memory and attention loss impairments assessment.

Opportunistic Relaying Technique over Rayleigh Fading Channel to Improve Multicast Security

The performance of Rayleigh fading channels is substantially impacted by the impacts of relays, antennas, and the number of branches. Opportunistic relaying is a potent technique for enhancing the effects of the aforementioned factors while enhancing the performance of fading channels. Due to these issues, a secure wireless multicasting scenario using opportunistic relaying over Rayleigh fading channel in the presence of multiple wiretappers is taken into consideration in this study. So the investigation of a secure wireless multicasting scenario using opportunistic relaying over Rayleigh fading channel in the presence of multiple wiretappers is the focus of this paper. The primary goals of this study are to maximize security in wireless multicasting while minimizing security loss caused by the effects of relays, branches at destinations and wiretappers, as well as multicast users and wiretappers through opportunistic relaying. To comprehend the insight effects of prior parameters, the closed form analytical expressions are constructed for the probability of non-zero secrecy multicast capacity (PNSMC), ergodic secrecy multicast capacity (ESMC), and secure outage probability for multicasting (SOPM). The findings demonstrate that opportunistic relaying is a successful method for reducing the loss of security in multicasting.

Enhancement of Multicast Security with Opportunistic Relaying Technique over κ-μ Shadowed Fading Channels

The effects of scatterers, fluctuation parameter and propagation clusters significantly affect the performance of κ-μ shadowed fading channel. On the other hand, opportunistic relaying is an efficient technique to improve the performance of fading channels reducing the effects of aforementioned parameters. Motivated by these issues, in this paper, a secure wireless multicasting scenario through κ-μ shadowed fading channel is considered in the presence of multiple eavesdroppers with opportunistic relaying. The main purpose of this paper is to ensure the security level in wireless multicasting compensating the loss of security due to the effects of power ratio between dominant and scattered waves, fluctuation parameter, and the number of propagation clusters, multicast users and eavesdroppers, by opportunistic relaying technique. The closed-form analytical expressions are derived for the probability of non-zero secrecy multicast capacity (PNSMC) and the secure outage probability for multicasting (SOPM) to understand the insight of the effects of above parameters. The results show that the loss of security in multicasting through κ-μ shadowed fading channel can be significantly enhanced using opportunistic relaying technique by compensating the effects of scatterers, fluctuation parameter, and the number of propagation clusters, multicast users and eavesdroppers.

Secure Wireless Multicasting through Nakagami-m Fading Channels with Multi-Hop Relaying

The additional diversity gain provided by the relays improves the secrecy capacity of communications system significantly. The multiple hops in the relaying system is an important technique to improve this diversity gain. The development of an analytical mathematical model of ensuring security in multicasting through fading channels incorporating this benefit of multi-hop relaying is still an open problem. Motivated by this issue, this paper considers a secure wireless multicasting scenario employing multi-hop relaying technique over frequency selective Nakagami-m fading channel and develops an analytical mathematical model to ensure the security against multiple eavesdroppers. This mathematical model has been developed based on the closed-form analytical expressions of the probability of non-zero secrecy multicast capacity (PNSMC) and the secure outage probability for multicasting (SOPM) to ensure the security in the presence of multiple eavesdroppers. Moreover, the effects of the fading parameter of multicast channel, the number of hops and eavesdropper are investigated. The results show that the security in multicasting through Nakagami-m fading channel with multi-hop relaying system is more sensitive to the number of hops and eavesdroppers. The fading of multicast channel helps to improve the secrecy multicast capacity and is not the enemy of security in multicasting.

Molecular Characterization of Sixty Local Mango Germplasm of Chapainawabganj

The experiment was conducted at Plant Genetic Resources Centre, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) and the genotypes were collected from Chapainawabganj, the most mango variability rich district in Bangladesh. The molecular characters of mango germplasm were assessed by using six simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of the DNA isolated from 60 mango germplasm with 6 SSR primers was performed. The sizes of the alleles detected ranged from 112 to 221 bp. SSRs exhibited moderate values of polymorphic information content (PIC) range of 0.9405 to 0.6501. Genetic distances (D) between varieties were computed from combined data of the 6 primers, ranging from 0.5000 to 1.0000. Moderate degree of genetic diversity was obtained where the highest level of gene diversity value was noted 0.9433 in loci MIGA179 and the lowest level of gene diversity value was computed 0.6683 in loci MIGA253 with a mean diversity of 0.8842. The dendrogram generated from the unweighed pair group arithmetic average (UPGMA) cluster analysis broadly placed 60 mango cultivars into ten major clusters. The cluster size varied from 1 to 12 and cluster-VI was the largest cluster comprising of 9 cultivars. The tendency of clustering among mango cultivars revealed that they have strong affinity towards further breeding programme.

Security in Multicast Over α-μ Fading Channels with Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing

The orthogonal space-frequency block coding (OSFBC) with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system reduces complexity in the receiver which improves the system performance significantly. Motivated by these advantages of OSFBC-OFDM system, this paper considers a secure wireless multicasting scenario through multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) OFDM system employing OSFBC over frequency selective α-μ fading channels. The authors are interested to protect the desired signals from eavesdropping considering the impact of the number of multicast users and eavesdroppers, and the fading parameters α and μ. A mathematical model has been developed based on the closed-form analytical expressions of the probability of non-zero secrecy multicast capacity (PNSMC) and the secure outage probability for multi-casting (SOPM) to ensure the security in the presence of multiple eaves-droppers. The results show that the security in MIMO OSFBC OFDM system over α-μ fading is more sensitive to the magnitude of α and μ and this effect increases in the high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) region of the main channel.
