Hydrostatic reduction of intussusception with intermittent radiography:an alternative to fluoroscopy or ultrasoundguided reduction in low-income and middle-income countries

Background Although hydrostatic reduction of intussusception with ultrasound(US)or fluoroscopy guidance is well known,it is not yet well established in many low-income and middle-income *** aim of the study is to report our results of hydrostatic reduction with intermittent radiography,which has the potential to be practiced in resource-limited *** We retrospectively analyzed our patients with intussusception from 2009 to 2019(11 years).Hydrostatic reduction was performed using water-soluble contrast medium(iopamidol),and reduction was followed with intermittent X-rays taken after every 50 mL of diluted contrast *** procedure was not continuously monitored by US or *** in outcome based on age and gender,and yearly trends of admission for intussusception,types of treatment and mortality were *** Among 672 patients,the ratio of boys to girls was 2.46:1.0,and their ages ranged from 1 month to 15 years(median 8 months).Hydrostatic reduction was performed successfully in 351(52.23%)patients;308(45.83%)patients underwent surgery;and 13(1.93%)patients died before any *** were significant differences in age between patients with successful hydrostatic reduction(median 7 months)and patients needing surgery(median 9 months)(p<0.001).The number of successful hydrostatic reductions increased during the 11 years of the study(R2=0.88).One patient(0.15%)died after hydrostatic reduction,and 10(1.49%)died after *** Hydrostatic reduction with intermittent radiography was performed successfully in more than half of the patients with acceptable complication rates.

Patterns of tree buttressing at Lawachara National Park, Bangladesh

We describe patterns of buttress formation and development in eleven tree species at Lawachara National Park, Bangladesh. Forty-five percent of trees of these 11 species had buttresses. Artocarpus chaplasha Roxb. showed maximum （87%） buttress formation, whereas Alstonia scholaris （L.） R. Br. did not show any buttress. Buttresses were recorded in 20%-40% of trees of six species and 40%-60% of trees in three species. Mean length and height of buttress varied among the species and ranged from 0.37-4.37 m and 0.71-2.13 m, respectively. Buttress height, mean buttress length, total buttress length, and total length plus length of secondaries increased with DBH （diameter at breast height） and tree height. Buttress number did not increase with DBH or tree height. Under-storey and mid-canopy trees produced less developed buttresses than did emergent trees （p〈0.01）. Wood density showed moderate effects on buttress characters （p〈0.05）, while the slope of the land did not. Canopy category was a primary regulating factor for tree buttressing, suggesting that buttresses are mechanical adaptations of trees to counter physical stresses.

Spatiotemporal variation and mechanisms of temperature inversion in the Bay of Bengal and the eastern equatorial Indian Ocean

In the northern Bay of Bengal,the existence of intense temperature inversion during winter is a widely accepted ***,occurrences of temperature inversion during other seasons and the spatial distribution within and adjacent to the Bay of Bengal are not well *** this study,a higher resolution spatiotemporal variation of temperature inversion and its mechanisms are examined with mixed layer heat and salt budget analysis utilizing long-term Argo(2004 to 2020)and RAMA(2007 to 2020)profiles data in the Bay of Bengal and eastern equatorial Indian Ocean(EEIO).Temperature inversion exists(17.5%of the total 39293 Argo and 51.6%of the 28894 RAMA profiles)throughout the year in the entire study *** shows strong seasonal variation,with the highest occurrences in winter and the lowest in *** winter inversion in the northern Bay of Bengal,two other regions with frequent temperature inversion are identified in this study for the first time:the northeastern part of the Bay of Bengal and the eastern part of the EEIO during summer and *** processes of temperature inversion for different subregions are revealed in the current *** of heat(mean~25 W/m;)below the haline-stratified shallow mixed layer leads to a relatively warmer subsurface layer along with the simultaneous cooling tendency in mixed layer,which controls more occurrence of temperature inversion in the northern Bay of Bengal throughout the *** lower cooling tendency due to net surface heat loss and higher mixed layer salinity leaves the southern part of the bay less supportive to the formation of temperature inversion than the northern *** the EEIO,slightly cooling tendency in the mixed layer along with the subduction of warm-salty Arabian Sea water beneath the cold-fresher Bay of Bengal water,and downwelling of thermocline creates a favorable environment for forming temperature inversion mainly during summer and *** isothermal layer

The 21st Century is all about technology. People are open to accepting new technologies as the need for modernization is increasing every single day. Blockchain is one of those new and revolutionary technologies that will have a significant impact on the market and industry. In layman’s terms, Blockchain is a data structure that stores transactional records while also ensuring security, transparency, and decentralization. There is a digital signature on every transaction on a blockchain, which proves the authenticity of the blockchain. In a Blockchain, data is stored which is tamper-proof and cannot be changed as it uses encryption and digital signatures. To change a record on a blockchain, one needs to change several records, and one needs to change the distributed ledger. That’s why it’s quite impossible to change the data which has already been entered into a Blockchain. The Blockchain is a technology that will allow transactions simply, safely, effectively, and also safely. This is a very promising technology. It’s already in a lot of places. It can also solve any problem in the banking sector. This technology became famous after introducing the first cryptocurrency, which is known as bitcoin. Right now, there is a huge problem with banking, and the Blockchain can solve these problems. Variations in incoming shortwave radiation influence the net surface heat flux,contributing to the formation of a temperature *** effects of shortwave radiation on the temperature inversions in the Bay of Bengal and eastern equatorial Indian Ocean have never been ***,a high-resolution(horizontal resolution of 0.07°×0.07° with 50 vertical layers) Regional Ocean Modeling System(ROMS) model is utilized to quantify the contributions of shortwave radiation to the temperature inversions in the study *** of the mixed layer heat and salt budgets are performed,and different model simulations are *** model results suggest that a 30% change in shortwave radiation can change approximately 3% of the temperature inversion area in the Bay of *** shortwave radiation reduces the net surface heat flux and cools the mixed layer substantially;it also reduces the evaporation rate,causing less evaporative water vapor losses from the ocean than the typical situation,and ultimately enhances haline ***,the rudimentary outcome of this research is that a decrease in shortwave radiation produces more temperature inversion in the study region,which is primarily driven by the net surface cooling and supported by the intensive haline ***,low shortwave radiation eventually intensifies the temperature inversion layer by thickening the barrier *** study could be an important reference for predicting how the Indian Ocean climate will respond to future changes in shortwave radiation.

The response of the upper ocean to tropical cyclone Viyaru over the Bay of Bengal

Better forecast of tropical cyclone(TC) can help to reduce risk and enhance management. The TC forecast depends on the scientific understanding of oceanic processes, air-sea interaction and finally, the atmospheric process. The TC Viyaru is taken as an example, which is formed at the end of 11 May 2013 and sustains up to 17 May 2013 during pre-monsoon season. Argo data are used to investigate ocean response processes by comparing pre-and post-conditions of the TC. Eight oceanic parameters including the sea surface temperature(SST), the sea surface salinity(SSS), and the barrier layer thickness(BLT), the 26°C isotherm depth in the ocean(D26), the isothermal layer depth(ILD), the mixed layer depth(MLD), the tropical cyclone heat potential(TCHP) and the effective oceanic layer for cyclogenesis(EOLC) are chosen to evaluate the pre-and post-conditions of the TC along the track of Viyaru. The values of the SST, D26, BLT, TCHP and EOLC in the pre-cyclonic condition are higher than the post-cyclonic condition, while the SSS, ILD and MLD in the post-cyclonic condition are higher than the pre-cyclonic condition of the ocean due to strong cyclonic winds and subsurface upwelling. It is interesting that the strong intensity of the TC reduces less SST and vice versa. The satisfied real time Argo data is not available in the northern Bay of Bengal especially in the coastal region. A weather research and forecasting model is employed to hindcast the track of Viyaru, and the satellite data from the National Center Environmental Prediction are used to assess the hindcast.

Medicinal values of aquatic plant genus Nymphoides grown in Asia: A review

Nymphoides is an aquatic genus consisting about 50 species, of which few were accepted as traditional medicinal plants in Asia. The literature review revealed that Nymphoides species are widely used in Ayurvedic medicine as a popular drug, i.e. Tagara. They are also utilized by the traditional local healers of different Asian countries to treat various diseases, like convulsion, jaundice, fever, headache, etc. According to the in vivo and in vitro pharmacological studies, Nymphoides species have been claimed to possess major biological activities like anticonvulsant, antioxidant, hepatoprotective, cytotoxic, antitumor, etc. Biochemical profiling of different aquatic plants of this genus revealed the presence of some important phytochemicals as polyphenolic component, flavonoids, triterpenes, carbohydrates, glycosides, etc. Several valuable bioactive compounds including ephedrine, coumarin, secoiridoid glucosides, methyl quercetin, ferulic acid, foliamenthoic acid, etc. were also known to be isolated and identified from different Nymphoides species. The aim of this review is to analyze the published report based on the medicinal values of different Asian Nymphoides species, to provide the updated information about the ethnomedicinal, pharmacological as well as the phytochemical properties for the first time.

Design and Optimization of Photonic Crystal Fiber Based Sensor for Gas Condensate and Air Pollution Monitoring

In this paper, a hexagonal shape photonic crystal fiber （H-PCF） has been proposed as a gas sensor of which both micro-structured core and cladding are organized by circular air cavities. The reported H-PCF has a single layer circular core which is surrounded by a five-layer hexagonal cladding. The overall pretending process of the H-PCF is completed by using a full vectorial finite element method （FEM） with perfectly matched layer （PML） boundary condition. All geometrical parameters like diameters and pitches of both core and cladding regions have fluctuated with an optimized structure. After completing the numerical analysis, it is clearly visualized that the proposed H-PCF exhibits high sensitivity with low confinement loss. The investigated results reveal the relative sensitivity of 56.65% and confinement loss of 2.31×10^-5 dB/m at the 1.33%tm wavelength. Moreover, effective area, nonlinearity, and V-parameter of the suggested PCF are also briefly described.
