Morphological and Genetical Variability among Rhizoctonia solani Isolates Causing Sheath Blight Disease of Rice

Eighteen isolates of Rhizoctonia solani collected from infected rice plants in four different locations of Bangladesh were studied by using morphological characters and molecular markers. Anastomosis study with a reference isolate confirmed that all the isolates belonged to R. solani. Significant variation was observed in sclerotial size, shape and distribution. Un-weighted pair group method with arithmetic mean dendrogram constructed based on the Gower＇s general similarity coefficient showed that these isolates were grouped into four clusters at the 0.68 similarity coefficent according to morphological characters. Cluster I was a major cluster consisting of 13 isolates, while clusters Ⅱ to Ⅳ consisted of 1 or 2 isolates. Analyses by variable number of tandem repeat and amplified fragment length polymorphism markers showed that the isolates were grouped into five and three clusters at a similarity coefficient of 0.64 and 0.69, respectively. Although most of the variability was found between isolates from different regions as expected, significant variation was observed within the isolates collected from similar agro-ecological regions. Our results suggest the presence of different races of R. solani within the same local geographic regions.

One-step synthesis of N-doped metal/biochar composite using NH_3-ambiance pyrolysis for efficient degradation and mineralization of Methylene Blue

Primary Sites of Gastric Carcinoma with Metastatic Spread Detected by Transabdominal Hydrosonography: Experience of 76 Cases in Bangladesh

Background: Metastasis is frequently occurred among the gastric carcinoma patients. Objectives: The purpose of the present study was to detect the different primary sites of gastric carcinoma by ultrasonography with the metastatic spread. Methodology: This cross-sectional study was carried in the department of Radiology and Imaging of Dhaka Medical College, Dhaka from July 2009 to June 2011 for a period of two (2) years. Clinically suspected gastric carcinoma patients attended at indoor and outdoor Surgery department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Dhaka were selected as study population. All the patients were examined by ultrasonography of upper abdomen and or Ba-meal X-ray. Detailed clinical history and relevant points in clinical examination and investigations were noted. The sonographic findings were noted. The extent of tumour infiltration and metastasis was assessed in all patients with suspected gastric malignancy. All these patients were properly follow up and collect the endoscopic biopsy and/or surgical resection biopsy reports. In all patients who underwent operation the extent of tumour infiltration and metastasis was looked for and was noted. Results: A total number of 76 patients were included in this study. Among 76 patients, 3 unwilling to take part in the study, 4 patients refused to undergo endoscopy or surgery, 5 patients were unfit for the same and in 4 cases, and histopathological reports were not available. Ultimately 60 patients were evaluated finally. The commonest site of involvement of gastric carcinoma as determined by ultrasound was the antrum 13 out of 23 cases (56.52%). Among them metastatic para-aortic lymph nodes were seen in seven patients and hepatic metastases was detected in five patients’ ascites was seen in eleven patients. Conclusion: In conclusion, the most common site of gastric carcinoma is the antral part of stomach and majority are metastasized in peritoneum.

Investigation on Fire Protection System of Highrise Buildings in the Context of Bir Uttam Aminul Haque Avenue in Dhaka, Bangladesh

Rapid high-rise building construction of different occupancies is becoming popular in Dhaka due to its economic gain and functional flexibility. Fire prevention poses a significant difficulty to this type of construction due to its complexity and economic worth as well. Therefore, construction of high-rise building without following the proper fire safety measures, is a common practice at present in the city and it poses a greater threat to urban life considering its associated loss. Even though, most of the owners or authorities do not respect the construction code and the majority of them lack sufficient awareness and basic fire control knowledge and practice. More often, they are unable to comprehend the magnitude and severity of severe fire hazards, and recognize the causes and implementing effective mitigation measures are rare. As a result, the number of fire hazard in high-rise construction is increasing day by day. Hence, investigating the present condition of high-rise buildings (already built) in terms of Fire Protection System is imperative to prevent the upcoming fire hazard. An urban chunk of 33 plots along with Bir Uttam Aminul Haque Avenue, located in Banani, has been chosen for the study area considering its vulnerability to fire hazard. Among these buildings, STAR Tower and HBR Tower, these two high-rise buildings are assessed thoroughly using FRI (Fire Risk Index) Method. The method is semi-quantitative in nature with seventeen parameters associated with fire protection. This assessment represents a scenario in what extent fire codes are being followed in the selected area. It concludes that most of the buildings lack in providing protection against fire hazards for not following the code strictly. This research provides some recommendations which can be followed to improve the fire safety measures in this existing context. Hybrid reconstruction algorithm for computed tomography based on diagonal total variation

Inspired by total variation(TV), this paper represents a new iterative algorithm based on diagonal total variation(DTV) to address the computed tomography image reconstruction problem. To improve the quality of a reconstructed image, we used DTV to sparsely represent images when iterative convergence of the reconstructed algorithm with TV-constraint had no effect during the reconstruction process. To investigate our proposed algorithm, the numerical and experimental studies were performed, and rootmean-square error(RMSE) and structure similarity(SSIM)were used to evaluate the reconstructed image quality. The results demonstrated that the proposed method could effectively reduce noise, suppress artifacts, and reconstruct highquality image from incomplete projection data.
