Sagardari union is facing groundwater crisis because of contaminations from agriculture and urban sewage,which bring a considerable change in water *** view of this,hydro-chemical analyses were undertaken on 35 groundwater samples and the following hydro-geochemical parameters,pH,total dissolved solids(TDS),total hardness(TH),electrical conductivity(EC),cations and anions,were *** the analytical results,it is found that pH value was lower than WHO drinking water standard and the middledownstream portions of the investigation region show higher *** piper plot indicates that the groundwater in Sagardari falls in the categories of NaClHCO3 hydro-chemical *** TH in groundwater was detected,but still in an acceptable *** addition,salinity and arsenic ratio are higher and moderately higher,*** spatial distribution of Groundwater Quality Index(GWQI)was determined by geo-statistical modelling of Sagardari *** study provides information and supports the administration which to make better groundwater utilization and quality control in the Sagardari union.

Pressure applied on the top roller of drafting zone is a vital factor on which the quality of ultimate yarn depends. Drafting zone is needed to reduce the mass per unit length of input material. Appropriate contact of top rollers with bottom rollers is necessary to ensure proper drafting. In this paper, the effects of different front top roller pressure of drafting zone on the quality of 20Ne cotton-flax blended yarns (C:L = 45:55) were studied. It was observed that a higher pressure value gives a lower co-efficient of mass variation, imperfections, hairiness and higher evenness, tenacity, elongation properties.

Neuropharmacological evaluation of methanolic extract of Costus speciosus Linn. rhizome in Swiss albino mice

Objective: To evaluate the neuropharmacological properties of Costus speciosus(C. speciosus) rhizome using different experimental mouse models. Methods: The anxiolytic effect was investigated by hole-board test, elevated plus maze and light/dark test, while central nervous system(CNS) depressant effect was evaluated by thiopental sodium-induced sleep test. Finally, antidepressant effect was evaluated by forced swimming test and tail suspension test. Results: In both elevated plus maze and hole board test, 400 mg/kg C. speciosus showed more significant CNS depressant effect than 1 mg/kg diazepam. Both 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg C. speciosus extract produced a significant dose-dependent decrease in onset of sleep. In forced swimming test, C. speciosus rhizome showed a decrease in duration of immobility in a dose-dependent manner. Imipramine(10 mg/kg) and C. speciosus extract at 400 mg/kg dose exhibited a significant reduction in duration of immobility in tail suspension test which provided additional evidence of antidepressant effect of C. speciosus rhizome. Conclusions: Our study indicates that C. speciosus rhizome possesses CNS depressant, anxiolytic and antidepressant-like activities. Further studies are warranted determine the exact phytoconstituents and mechanism of action responsible for the neuropharmacological effect.

Objective: To identify the phytochemical compounds from Annona muricata(A. muricata) and to determine their in vitro anti-proliferative activities against breast cancer cells, MCF7 and mdA-MB-231. Methods: A. muricata leaves were successively extracted by soxhlet method using n-hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol, and decocted with water. Each extract was analysed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry(GCMS) and characterized with Wiley and NIST library searches. Anti-proliferative activity of each extract was evaluated on MCF7 and mdA-MB-231 breast cancer cells using MTT assay. Results: The GCMS analysis of different solvent extracts of A. muricata leaves showed presence of different chemical groups of compounds such as steroids, terpenoids, phenolic compounds, sugars, sugars alcohol and others including vitamin E. Ethyl acetate leaves extract exhibited the lowest IC_(50) value on the mdA-MB-231 breast cancer cell and n-hexane leaves extract showed the the lowest IC_(50) value on the MCF-7 breast cancer cell. Conclusion: Steroids and phenolic compounds were the main phytocompound groups identified from all A. muricata leaves extracts. The antiproliferative activity of n-hexane and ethyl acetate extract towards breast cancer MCF7 and mdA-MB-231 respectively might be due to the presence of biologically active compounds in the extracts, hence, providing some scientific evidences of the effectiveness of its traditional usages.

The Self-description Questionnaire-I(SDQ-I)is a multidimensional instrument that measures eight self-concept facets hypothesized in Shavelson’s hierarchical *** study investigated self-concept in a sample of Palestinian adolescent students using an Arabic version of the ***-hundred sixty adolescents(163 girls and 197 boys)aged 13 to 16 years(M=14.3,SD=.87)*** 72-item SDQ-I was administered in four Palestinian schools to assess the psychometric properties of the *** included the factor structure and the internal consistency reliability of the SDQ-I subscales and mean score responses of Palestinian *** analysis results,which accounted for the majority of the variance,supported an underlying general self-concept factor structure that demonstrated the eight factors that the SDQ-I is designed to *** is consistent with previous studies in similar age groups and the SDQ-I reliabilities were similar to those reported in the *** perceived total self-concept positively(mean=3.71).Three facets of self-concept(parent relations,reading,and general self-concept)indicated high positive *** among the different dimensions were consistent with the hierarchical structure in Shavelson’s ***,the findings provided compelling support for Shavelson’s model,and the structure validity of Western self-concept *** were provided for the discrepancies regarding the Palestinian-Arab culture.
