Crystallization Conditions and Petrogenesis of the Paleoproterozoic Basement Rocks in Bangladesh:An Evaluation of Biotite and Coexisting Amphibole Mineral Chemistry

The Paleoproterozoic （-1.73 Ga） basement rocks from Maddhapara, Bangladesh show a large range of chemical variations including diorite, quartz diorite, monzodiorite, quartz monzonite and granite. These are composed of varying proportions of quartz＋plagioclase＋K-feldspar＋biotite＋ hornblende±epidote＋titanite＋magnetite＋apatite and zircon. Amphibole and biotite, dominant ferro- magnesian minerals, have been analyzed with an electron microprobe. The biotite, Mg-dominant trioc- tahedral micas, is classified as phlogopitic nature. Relatively high Mg （1.33-1.53 pfu）, Mg^# （0.52-0.59） and low AIw （0.13-0.25 pfu） contents in the biotite reflect slightly fractionated magma, which might be a relative indicator for the origin of the parental magma. Biotite is also a very good sensor of oxidation state of the parental magma. Oxygen fugacity of the studied biotites estimate within the QFM and HM buffers and equilibrate at about -12.35 and -12.46, which exhibit the source materials were relatively higher oxidation state during crystallization and related to arc magmatism. Whereas, calcic amphi- boles, a parental member of arc-related igneous suite, display consistent oxygen fugacity values （-11.7 to -12.3）, low Al^# （0.16-0.21） with H2Omelt （5.6 wt.%-9.5 wt.%） suggest their reliability with the typical values of calc-alkaline magma crystallization. The oxygen fugacity of magma is related to its source material, which in turn depends on tectonic setting. Discrimination diagrams and chemical indices of both biotite and amphibole of dioritic rocks reveal calc-alkaline orogenic complexes; mostly I-type suite formed within subduction-related environments. Moreover, igneous micas are used as metal- logenic indicator. The biotites with coexisting amphibole compositions show an apparent calc-alkaline trend of differentiation. The study suggests that the trend of oxidized magmas is commonly associated with compressive tectonic and convergent plate boundaries.

Delivering audiovisual content with MPEG-21-enabled cross-layer QoS adaptation

Future multimedia communication systems have to support the user’s needs, the terminal capabilities, the content specification and the underlying networking technologies. The related protocols and applications must be designed from this integration perspective in a cross-layer centric manner. In this paper, we propose an implementation of a streaming service (e.g., Television over IP service) with a unified QoS management concept that enables an IP driven integration of different system components (terminal, user, content, and network). The MPEG-21 framework is used to provide a common support for imple- menting and managing the end-to-end QoS. The main focus of this paper is on the architecture design, protocols specification and implementation evaluation. Performance evaluations using PSNR and SSIM objective video quality metrics show the benefit of the proposed MPEG-21-enabled cross-layer adaptation.

Rice Yield Estimation by Integrating Remote Sensing with Rice Growth Simulation Model

Since remote sensing can provide information on the actual status of an agricultural crop, the integration between remote sensing data and crop growth simulation models has become an important trend for yield estimation and *** main objective of this research was to combine a rice growth simulation model with remote sensing data to estimate rice grain yield for different growing seasons leading to an assessment of rice yield at regional levels. Integration between NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) AVHRR (Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer) data and the rice growth simulation model ORYZA1 to develop a new software, which was named as Rice-SRS Model, resulted in accurate estimates for rice yield in Shaoxing, China, with an estimation error reduced to 1.03% and 0.79% over-estimation and 0.79% under-estimation for early, single and late season rice, respectively. Selecting suitable dates for remote sensing images was an important factor which could influence estimation accuracy. Thus, given the different growing periods for each rice season, four images were needed for early and late rice, while five images were preferable for single season *** rice yield using two or three images was possible, however, if images were obtained during the panicle initiation and heading stages.

Micro ball-end milling of freeform titanium parts

Micro machining has growing number of applications in various industries such as biomedical, automotive, aerospace, micro-sensor, micro-actuator and jewelry industries. Small-sized freeform titanium parts are frequently needed in the biomedical applications, especially in the implantations such as mini-blood pumps and mini left-ventricular assist devices, finger joint replacements and small bone implants. Most of the small-sized titanium parts with freeform geometries are machined using micro ball-end milling before polishing and other surface treatments. Decreasing the cycle time of the machining parts is important for the productivity. In order to reduce the cycle time of the roughing process in the micro ball-end milling, this paper investigates the imple- mentation of a previously developed force-based feedrate scheduling （FFS） technique on micro milling of freeform titanium parts. After briefly introducing the instantaneous micro milling forces in micro ball-end milling of titanium parts with freeform surfaces, the FFS technique is implemented in the rough machining of a freeform titanium surface to demonstrate the cycle time reduction potentials via virtual micro milling simulations.

Ultimate bearing capacity(UBC)is a key subject in geotechnical/foundation engineering as it determines the limit of loads imposed on the *** most reliable means of determining UBC is through experiment,but it is costly and time-consuming which has led to the development of various models based on the simplified *** outcomes of the models are usually validated with the experimental results,but a large gap usually exists between ***,a model that can give a close prediction of the experimental results is *** study proposes a grasshopper optimization algorithm(GOA)and salp swarm algorithm(SSA)to optimize artificial neural networks(ANNs)using the existing UBC experimental *** performances of the proposed models are evaluated using various statistical *** obtained results are compared with the existing *** proposed models outperformed the existing *** proposed hybrid GOA-ANN and SSA-ANN models are then transformed into mathematical forms that can be incorporated into geotechnical/foundation engineering design codes for accurate UBC measurements.

Dunbar Syndrome and Hypoxic Hepatitis: An Unusual Presentation

Hypoxic hepatitis, also known as ischemic hepatitis, is characterized by acute hepatocellular injury due to inadequate oxygen delivery to the liver. Celiac trunk stenosis can lead to hepatic ischemia and subsequent liver damage. We present the case of an 81-year-old patient with a history of hypertension, ischemic heart disease, hypothyroidism, and biliary lithiasis, who developed hypoxic hepatitis secondary to Dunbar syndrome and a stenosis of the superior mesenteric artery. The patient improved symptoms and liver function tests with conservative management, including intravenous fluids and supportive care. Long-term management involved continued antiplatelet therapy and statins, with consideration of further interventions for celiac trunk stenosis. This case underscores the importance of recognizing Dunbar syndrome as well as superior mesentery trunk stenosis as a potential cause of hypoxic hepatitis. It highlights the need for multidisciplinary management in such cases.

A Comparative Analysis on Surgical Outcomes and Complications of Endoscopic and Open Vein Harvesting Techniques

Objective: The great saphenous vein (GSV) is commonly used as a conduit for grafting during CABG surgery, and open GSV harvesting (OVH), commonly used with long incision to expose the vein. However, endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH) is an alternative approach, utilizing specialized instruments and small incisions to harvest the vein. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on a cohort of patients who underwent Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) requiring great saphenous vein (GSV) harvesting which was done by EVH or OVH procedures. Demographic variables, including age and gender, were assessed for both groups. Intraoperative variables such as the number of grafts, cardiopulmonary bypass time, X clamp time, and type of procedure were analyzed. Postoperative variables, including infection and bleeding rates, were also evaluated. Results: The study included 30 patients each undergoing Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) with need of great saphenous vein harvesting which was done by EVH and OVH. Demographic variables were well-matched between the two groups in terms of age, while a significant difference in gender distribution was observed. Obesity and smoking were more prevalent in the OVH group, and EVH was associated with a higher mean number of grafts compared to OVH. Conversion to an open technique occurred in a portion of the EVH cases, and infection rates did not significantly differ between the EVH and OVH groups. However, the incidence of postoperative bleeding was significantly higher in the EVH group. Conclusion: This study provides valuable insights into the demographic, intraoperative, and postoperative variables associated with EVH and OVH techniques. EVH demonstrated advantages in terms of reduced infection rates compared to OVH. However, the higher incidence of postoperative bleeding associated with EVH raises concerns about potential risks.

Glassy phase and thermodynamics for random field Ising model on spherical lattice in magnetic field

Phase diagram and thermodynamic parameters of the random field Ising model （RFIM） on spherical lattice are studied by using mean field theory. This lattice is placed in an external magnetic field （B）. The random field （hi） is assumed to be Gaussian distributed with zero mean and a variance （hi2） = HRF2. The free energy （F）, the magnetization （M） and the order parameter （q） are calculated. The ferromagnetic （FM） spin-glass （SG） phase transition is clearly observed. The critical temperature （Tc） is computed under a critical intensity of random field HRF = V/2/πJ. The phase transition from FM to paramagnetic （PM） occurs at TC = J/k in the absence of magnetic field. The critical temperature decreases as HRF increases in the phase boundary of FM-to-SG. The magnetic susceptibility （X） shows a sharp cusp at TC and the specific heat （C） has a singularity in small random field. The internal energy （U） has a similar behaviour to that obtained from the Monte Carlo simulation.
