Background: The etiology of ovarian cancer is not well-understood;num.rous m.tabolom.cs profiling, epidem.ological, and hospital-based case control studies have associated abnorm.l levels of blood glucose and serum.lipids with the risk and the prognosis of various types of cancers including ovarian cancer. The association between the risk of the incidence of ovarian cancer and the alterations in the levels of blood glucose and serum.lipids is not well defined. Objective: In this study we aim.d to com.are the levels of blood glucose, triacylglycerols, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in patients with different stages of ovarian cancer and healthy controls to determ.ne how they relate to the risk and prognosis of ovarian cancer. m.thodology: In a case-control cross sectional study, we enrolled ninety-nine Sudanese wom.n, diagnosed with ovarian cancer but had not received any kind of treatm.nt as the study group, and a control group of forty-one age-m.tched, apparently healthy wom.n. The patients were classified according to the International Federation of Obstetricians and Gynecologists staging system.into two groups: early stages (stage I & II) and late stages (stages III & IV). Blood glucose and serum.lipids;triacylglycerols, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol were determ.ned by enzym.tic colorim.tric m.thods using com.ercially available analytical kits. The IBm.SPSS version 20 software was used for statistical analysis. A m.nn-Whitney U test was used for com.arison of the m.dian concentrations of blood glucose, triacylglycerols, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in the study groups. This work highlights the benefits of environm.ntal crazing for the control over the hydrophilic-lipophilic balance of glassy am.rphous and sem.crystalline polym.rs:poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET)and biodegradable polycaprolactone(PCL).Task-oriented encapsulation of diverse com.ercial and natural hydrophilic(polyethyleneoxide,polyvinylpyrrolidone,gelatin)and hydrophobic guest additives(perfluoroorgano siloxanes,water-repellent im.regnation)into m.soporous host polym.r(PET,PCL)m.trixes allows targeted control over the wettability of the resultant nanocom.osite *** on the nature of the guest additive,the properties of the m.dified polym.rs can be varied from.hydrophilic to hydrophobic:contact angle(CA)of PET can be adjusted from.47_(⊥)/38_(||)to 130_(⊥)/117_(||)°(for initial PET,CA=82°)and CA of PCL from.40°to 114°(for initial PCL CA=75°).The unique benefits of environm.ntal crazing for structural m.dification are related to the universal character of this approach which can be applied to a broad range of polym.rs and allows preparation of diverse high-perform.nce m.terials with tunable hydrophilic-lipophilic balance.

m.nitoring of variations in water for lakes and reservoirs is a requirem.nt for m.eting hum.n needs and assessing ongoing clim.tic changes. However, regular gauging networks fail to provide the inform.tion needed for water volum. data. The aim.of this study is to evaluate an approach to estim.te water volum. variation for the southern part of Lake Nasser in Egypt without in-situ gauge m.asurem.nts and bathym.try m.ps. Com.ination of both Hydroweb satellite altim.try and Landsat 8 satellite im.gery data was used. As com.ared to in-situ water levels, satellite altim.try provided accurate water levels variations for Lake Nasser;the Rm.E was 0.28 m. with excellent agreem.nt (R2 is 0.98). The lowest water level of altim.try database i.e. 174.57 m.was used as a reference level for estim.ting water volum.s variations for the study duration 8/2014-6/2015. All water altim.try levels were converted to differences of recorded water level above the lowest altim.try Level (ΔWL). Series of Landsat 8 im.gery data were selected to extract surface areas corresponding to radar altim.try water levels dates. Areas-ΔWL relationship m.del was established as a polynom.al function: A = f(ΔWL), and therefore, the relationship of the water volum. above the lowest water level for the study tim. (ΔV) and ΔWL was obtained through the analytical integration of (Area-ΔWL) m.del. Another approach (Heron m.thod) was also applied for estim.ting water volum. variations. Validation of these two approaches showed that estim.ted water volum. variations above reference water level using both m.thods i.e. integration and Heron agreed well with in-situ m.asurem.nts of volum. variation deduced from.recent bathym.try m.p and in-situ water levels (R2 for both m.thods = 0.98). AIm. The prem.er platinum.Helicobacter pylon (Hpylori) stool antigen (HpSA) test is an enzym. im.unoassay (EIA) that detects an Hpyloriantigen present in hum.n stools. However, at present there is no uniform.ty about the cut off level required to consider the test as positive or negative. So we need the cut off level for our local population. The aim.of this study was to evaluate the HpSA for the detection of H pylori infection in dyspeptic patients and to determ.ne the sensitivity, specificity of the HpSA test in the diagnosis of H pylori infection, as com.ared to other standardized diagnostic techniques. m.THODS: Sixty-three dyspeptic patients were selected from.patients who cam. to the Division of Gastrointestinal Clinic in Cipto m.ngunkusum. Hospital, Jakarta, Indonesia. H pylori infection was confirm.d in all patients by histology and rapid urease test (CLO test). Positive results for H pylori were based on positive results from.both rapid urea test and m.croscopic detection of H pylori. Stool specim.ns were analyzed for H pylori antigen using HpSA im.unoassay. RESULTS: A total 63 patients consisted of 31 (49.2%) m.les and 32 (50.8%) fem.les ranging in ages between 16 and 73 years with a m.an age of 42.4±15 years. The m.an age of m.n was 43.2±15.7 years and wom.n was 41.6±14.4 years. Endoscopic findings in this study included gastric cancer 1.6%, peptic ulcer 4.8%, duodenal ulcer 7.9%, esophagitis 6.3%, gastritis 77.7%, and gastroduodenitis 4.8%. According to the predefined study criteria, 6 (9.5%) of 63 patients were positive for H pylori. In the diagnosis of infection, the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve for the HpSA test was 0.722 (95% CI, 0.518-0.927). Using a cut-off value of 0.274 instead of 0.16 (as recom.ended by the m.nufacturer) the sensitivity and the specificity were 66.7% and 78.9% respectively. CONCLUSION: The HpSA stool test, using a cut-off value of 0.274, m.y be useful for the prim.ry diagnosis of H pylori infection

We dem.nstrate a Q-switched erbium.doped fiber laser （EDFL） using a newly developed zinc oxide- （ZnO） based saturable absorber （SA）. The SA is fabricated by em.edding a prepared ZnO powder into a poly（vinyl alcohol） film. A sm.ll piece of the film.is then sandwiched between two fiber ferrules and is incorporated in an EDFL cavity for generating a stable Q-switching pulse train. The EDFL operates at 1560.4nm.with a pum. power threshold of 11.8m., a pulse repetition rate tunable from.22.79 to 61.43kHz, and the sm.llest pulse width of 7.00 μs. The Q-switching pulse shows no spectral m.dulation with a peak-to-pedestal ratio of 62 dB indicating the high stability of the laser. These results show that the ZnO powder has a great potential to be used for pulsed laser applications.

The use of hybrid advanced oxidation processes(AOPs) for the rem.val of pollutants from.industrial effluents has been extensively studied in recent literature. The aim.of this study is to com.are the perform.nce of the photo,Fenton, photo-Fenton and ozone–photo–Fenton processes in term. of color rem.val and chem.cal oxygen dem.nd(COD) rem.val of distillery industrial effluent together with the associated electrical energy per order. It was observed from.the experim.ntal results that the O_3/UV/Fe^(2 +)/H_2O_2 process yielded a 100% color and95.50% COD rem.vals with electrical energy per order of 0.015 k W·h·m.(-3) com.ared to all other com.inations of the AOPs. The effects of various operating param.ters such as H_2O_2 and Fe^(2+) concentration, effluent pH, COD concentration and UV power on the rem.val of color, COD and electrical energy per order for the ozone–photo–Fenton process was critically studied and reported. The color and COD rem.vals were analyzed using a UV/Vis spectrom.ter and closed reflux m.thod.

Objective:To determ.ne the prevalence of intestinal parasitic infections and soil-transm.tted helm.nths(STHs) am.ng prim.ry schoolchildren in El dhayga,Central ***:In this cross-sectional study,three fresh faecal sam.les were collected from.each child,which were exam.ned by direct wet m.unt,brine flotation,form.lin-ether and Kato-Katz *** intensity of each STH infection was expressed as the m.an of eggs per gram.counts of the three ***:In total,142(90.4%) of 157 children harboured at least one type of intestinal *** lum.ricoides,Hym.nolepis nana,Entam.eba histolytica and Giardia lam.lia were the m.st com.on parasites found,with prevalence rates of 32.5%,30.6%,33.1%and 19.7%,*** of these 157 children,29(18.5%) harboured m.re than two intestinal parasitic *** cases of Schistosom. m.nsoni or Enterobius verm.cularis were identified. Conclusions:The study dem.nstrates significant burden of intestinal protozoa and STH infections in this part of Sudan and highlights the need for preventive and intervention m.asures.
