Background:Probiosis is considered a potential strategy to reduce antibiotics use and prevent postweaning diarrhea(PWD).This study investigated the effect of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens DSM25840 or Bacillus subtilis DSM25841 supplementation on growth,health,immunity,intestinal functionality and microbial profile of post-weaning pigs after enterotoxigenic ***(ETEC)F4 ***:Sixty-four post-weaning piglets(7748 g±643 g)were randomly al ocated to four groups:control basal diet(CO);CO+1.28×10~6 CFU/g of ***(BAA);CO+1.28×10~6 CFU/g feed of ***(BAS);CO+1 g colistin/kg of feed(AB).At day(d)7,animals were chal enged with 10~5 CFU/m L of ETEC F4 ac O149 and then fol owed for fecal score and performance until d *** was col ected at d 6,d 12 and d 21 for immunoglobulins,at d 8 for acute phase proteins,at d 8 and d 21 for metabolomics *** was sampled for morphometry,quantification of apoptosis,cel proliferation,neutral and acid mucine and Ig A secretory cel s,and microarray analysis at d *** and cecum contents were col ected for microbiota at d ***:AB and BAS reduced the fecal score impairment compared to CO(P<0.05)at d *** weight(BW),average daily weight gain(ADWG),average daily feed intake(ADFI)and gain to feed ratio(G:F)did not differ between Bacil us groups and *** improved BW at d 7,d 14 and d 21,ADWG ADFI and G:F from d 0 to d 7(P<0.05).At d 8,CO had higher plasma arginine,lysine,ornithine,glycine,serine and threonine than other groups,and higher haptoglobin than AB(P<0.05).At d 21,CO had lower blood glycine,glutamine and Ig A than ***,cel s apoptosis and mucins did not *** and AB increased the vil us mitotic *** profile of BAS and AB were more similar than *** sets related to adaptive immune response were enriched in BAA,BAS and *** had enriched gene set for nuclear structure and RNA *** had a trend of higher Enterobacteriaceae in cecum than the oth

Glucagon-like peptide 1 agonists are potentially useful drugs for treating metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease

In this editorial,we comment on Yin et al’s recently published Letter to the *** particular,we focus on the potential use of glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists(GLP-1RAs)alone,but even more so in combination therapy,as one of the most promising therapies in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease(MASLD),the new definition of an old condition,non-alcoholic fatty liver disease,which aims to better define the spectrum of steatotic *** is well known that GLP-1RAs,having shown outstanding performance in fat loss,weight loss,and improvement of insulin resistance,could play a role in protecting the liver from progressive *** clinical trials have shown that,among GLP-1RAs,semaglutide is a safe,well-studied therapeutic choice for MASLD patients;however,most studies demonstrate that,while semaglutide can reduce steatosis,including steatohepatitis histological signs(in terms of inflammatory cell infiltration and hepatocyte ballooning),it does not improve *** of therapies with different but complementary mechanisms of action are considered the best way to improve efficiency and slow disease progression due to the complex pathophysiology of the *** particular,GLP-1RAs associated with antifibrotic drug therapy,dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide(GIP)/GLP-1RA or GLP-1 and glucagon RAs have promoted greater improvement in hepatic steatosis,liver biochemistry,and non-invasive fibrosis tests than ***,although to date there are no definitive indications from international drug agencies,there is the hope that soon the therapeutic lines in the most advanced phase of study will be able to provide a therapy for MASLD,one that will certainly include the use of GLP-1RAs as combination therapy.

Dexamethasone and N-acetylcysteine before transarterial chemoembolization in hepatocellular carcinoma:A Western perspective

Post-embolization syndrome(PES)is the most common complication in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma treated with transarterial *** strategies have been evaluated to reduce the incidence of PES,but no standard prevention guidelines currently *** a single-center,placebo-controlled trial,Simasingha et al evaluated the prophylactic administration of a combination of dexamethasone and N-acetylcysteine and documented a significant reduction in the incidence of PES(from 80%to 6%),of post-procedural liver decompensation(from 14%to 0%),and a shorter hospital stay(4 days vs 6 days),alongside an acceptable safety *** results of this study raise several controversial points regarding their applicability in the Western *** the West,there is a greater and increasing prevalence of metabolic and alcoholic etiologies of liver cirrhosis,so a not negligible number of patients with type II diabetes or hypertension would be excluded from high-dosage dexamethasone ***,in the West,there is a preferred use of drug-eluting beads loaded with doxorubicin,which are associated with a lower incidence of PES.A study on prophylaxis with dexamethasone and/or N-acetylcysteine in a Western population is hopefully awaited.

Inertia and Spectral Symmetry for the Eccentricity Matrices of Clique Trees

The eccentricity matrix E(G) of a connected graph G is obtained from the distance matrix of G by leaving unchanged the largest nonzero entries in each row and each column,and replacing the remaining ones with *** this paper,we consider the set CT of clique trees whose blocks contain at most two cut-vertices of the clique *** with studying the structural properties of a clique tree in CT,we prove its eccentricity matrix to be irreducible,and then determine its inertia showing that every graph in CT with more than four vertices and odd diameter has two positive and two negative *** E-eigenvalues and negative E-eigenvalues turn out to be equal in number even for graphs in CT with even diameter;that shared cardinality also counts the‘diametrally distinguished’***,we prove that the spectrum of the eccentricity matrix of a clique tree G in CT is symmetric with respect to the origin if and only if G has an odd diameter and exactly two adjacent central *** results generalize those achieved on trees by *** and *** in 2022.

Propolis as a promising functional ingredient: A comprehensive review on extraction， bioactive properties， bioavailability， and industrial applications

Propolis is a resinous complex mixture made from plant resins collected by worker bees and mixed with their own secretions. It is rich in polyphenols and flavonoids and thus has a wide range of biological activities and is considered a functional source for promoting human health. However， propolis and its bioactive compounds have poor water solubility， rapid and intense metabolism， and low oral bioavailability， which limits their wide application. In this paper， the main bioactive substances in propolis were summarized， and the biological characteristics and therapeutic potential of propolis and its bioactive substances were discussed. In addition， this paper discussed the factors affecting the bioavailability of propolis and its functional ingredients， focusing on the research progress in improving the bioavailability and bioactivity of propolis and its functional ingredients using nanoencapsulation technology. Finally， the current situation of the global propolis market and the applications of propolis products in the pharmaceutical， food， cosmetic and other industrial fields are discussed， providing useful references for promoting the development of the propolis industry.

Frequency of and reasons behind non-listing in adult patients referred for liver transplantation: Results from a retrospective study
