Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) remains a clinical challenge in the 21st century. It’s the most commonly diagnosed gastrointestinal condition and also the most common reason for referral to gastroenterology clinics. Its can affect up to one in five people at some point in their lives, and has a significantly impact of life quality and health care utilization. The prevalence varies according to country and criteria used to define IBS. Various mechanisms and theories have been proposed about its etiology, but the biopsychosocial model is the most currently accepted for IBS. The complex of symptoms would be the result of the interaction between psychological, behavioral, psychosocial and environmental factors. The diagnosis of IBS is not confirmed by a specific test or structural abnormality. It is made using criteria based on clinical symptoms such as Rome criteria, unless the symptoms are thought to be atypical. Today the Rome Criteria III is the current gold-standard for the diagnoses of IBS. Secure positive evidence of IBS by means of specific disease marker is currently not possible and cannot be currently recommended for routine diagnosis. There is still no clinical evidence to recommend the use of biomarkers in blood to diagnose IBS. However, a number of different changes in IBS patients were demonstrated in recent years, some of which can be used in the future as a diagnostic support. IBS has no definitive treatment but could be controlled by non-pharmacologic management eliminating of some exacerbating factors such certain drugs, stressor conditions and changes in dietary *** traditional pharmacologic management of IBS has been symptom based and several drugs have been used. However, the cornerstone of its therapy is a solid patient physician relationship. This review will provide a summary of pathophysiology, diagnostic criteria and current and emerging therapies for IBS.

The management of neurological disorders have huge and increasing human and economic costs. despite this, there is a scarcity of effective therapeutics, and there is an extreme urgency for new and real treatments. In this short review we analyze some promising advancements in the search of new bioactive molecules targeting neuronal nitric oxide synthase （nNOS）, an enzyme deputed to the biosynthesis of nitric oxide （NO）. In different conditions of neuronal damages, this molecule is overproduced, contributing to the pathogenesis and progression of neuronal diseases. Two main approaches to modulate nNOS are discussed： a first one consisting in the direct inhibition of the enzyme by means of small organic molecules, which can be also active against other different targets involved in such diseases. A second section is dedicated to molecules able to prevent the formation of the ternary complex N-methyl-D-aspartate （NMDA）type glutamate receptors, postsynaptic density-95 （PSD95） protein-nNOS, which is necessary to activate the latter for the biosynthesis of NO.

COVID-19 generates systematic alterations in humans both in active stages of infection and over time, called post-COVID syndrome. Cortisol is a hormone that is overexpressed in inflammation and cellular stress processes. Its main function is to return to physiological homeostasis, so its evaluation together with other clinical parameters can allow us to determine the degree of systemic affectation by COVID-19. Objective: To evaluate changes in clinical parameters and plasma cortisol concentrations in patients with active COVID-19 and post-COVID syndrome. Material and Methods: Healthy patients, in stages of mild infection, critical and with post-COVID syndrome, were recruited, obtaining, through clinical diagnoses and interviews, their main clinical characteristics, in addition to plasma, in which cortisol concentrations were determined using competitive ELISA. Results: The critical stage group had higher frequencies of comorbidities, clinical symptoms, as well as more altered laboratory parameters compared to the other subgroups. In the post-COVID syndrome group after the initial infection, most laboratory parameters recovered, however, several clinical symptoms remained latent over time. The determination of cortisol showed an increase in its concentration, being higher in patients in critical stage and with post-COVID syndrome. Conclusion: COVID-19 disease generates clinical alterations that trigger an increase in plasma cortisol. These alterations increase as the stages of infection become more severe and some of them remain altered in patients with post-COVID syndrome.

Olive fly（Bactrocera oleae R.） is the most harmful insect pest of olive（Olea europaea L.） which strongly affects fruits and oil production. despite the expanding economic importance of olive cultivation, up to now, only limited information on plant responses to B. oleae is available. Here,we demonstrate that olive fruits respond to B. oleae attack by producing changes in an array of different defensive compounds including phytohormones, volatile organic compounds（VOCs）, and defense proteins. Bactrocera oleaeinfested fruits induced a strong ethylene burst and transcript levels of several putative ethylene-responsive transcription factors became significantly upregulated. Moreover, infested fruits induced significant changes in the levels of 12-oxophytodienoic acid and C12 derivatives of the hydroperoxide lyase. The emission of VOCs was also changed quantitatively and qualitatively in insect-damaged fruits, indicating that *** larval feeding can specifically affect the volatile blend offruits. Finally, we show that larval infestation maintained high levels of trypsin protease inhibitors in ripe fruits, probably by affecting post-transcriptional mechanisms. Our results provide novel and important information to understand the response of the olive fruit to B. oleae attack; information that can shed light onto potential new strategies to combat this pest.

Er/Ybco-doped phosphate glasses(PO-AlO-BaO-BaF-KO-ErO-YbO) with varying BaFcontent,were prepared by a conventional melt quenching technique and their spectroscopic properties were examined through the Raman, absorption, emission and decay measurements. Raman spectra(350-1400 cm) of the Er/Ybco-doped phosphate glasses with varying BaFcontent, were recorded upon laser excitation at 785 nm. Near infrared luminescence spectra were measured in the1400-1600 nm region under 970 nm diode laser excitation and characteristic band was observed at1533 nm corresponding to ~4Ⅰ→~4Ⅰtransition of Erion. The decay curves for the ~4Ⅰlevel of Erion, were measured and the lifetime is found to decrease from 7.94 to 7.70 ms when BaFcontent increases from 0 to 8 mol% and then increases up to 7.83 ms with further increase in BaFcontent(12 mol%). The emission *** and figure of merit for the ~4Ⅰ→~4Ⅰtransition of Erion were evaluated and compared to the other host matrices. The upconversion luminescence was measured and intense red emission was observed for all the studied samples.

The diagnosis of sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease （sCJD） is extremely difficult. Diffusion-weighted imaging has been shown to be the most sensitive technique for the detection of signal alterations in sCJD patients. The present study analyzed the diagnostic value of diffusion-weighted imaging and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery sequence in the early stage of sCJD in one female patient and correlated the clinical symptoms during disease course and magnetic resonance manifestations. Thalamic and basal ganglia hyperintensities were observed on magnetic resonance images in a very early stage, i.e., when the clinical typical manifestations of the disease were not present. With the progression of the disease, cortical and basal ganglia hyperintensities were observed on magnetic resonance images, showing an obvious cerebral atrophy. These findings suggest that diffusion-weighted imaging and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery sequence are helpful in diagnosing sCJD.
