This review considers available evidence for mechanisms of conferred adaptive advantages in the face of specific infectious *** short,we explore a number of genetic conditions,which carry some benefits in adverse circumstances including exposure to infectious *** examples discussed are conditions known to result in resistance to a specific infectious disease,or have been proposed as being associated with resistance to various infectious *** infectious diseasedgenetic disorder pairings include malaria and hemoglobinopathies,cholera and cystic fibrosis,tuberculosis and Tay-Sachs disease,mycotic abortions and phenylketonuria,infection by enveloped viruses and disorders of glycosylation,infection by filoviruses and NiemannePick C1 disease,as well as rabies and myasthenia *** also discuss two genetic conditions that lead to infectious disease hypersusceptibility,although we did not cover the large number of immunologic defects leading to infectious disease *** of the resistance-associated pairings(malaria/hemogloginopathies,cholera/cystic fibrosis,tuberculosis/Tay-Sachs,and mycotic abortions/phenylketonuria)appear to be a result of selection pressures in geographic regions in which the specific infectious agent is *** other pairings do not appear to be based on selection pressure and instead may be ***,research investigating these relationships may lead to treatment options for the aforementioned diseases by exploiting established mechanisms between genetically affected cells and infectious *** may prove invaluable as a starting point for research in the case of diseases that currently have no reliably curative treatments,e.g.,HIV,rabies,and Ebola.

Trends in oxycodone and oxycodone-containing analgesics administration for back pain in emergency departments in the USA(2007–2018)

BACKGROUND:To describe trends in oxycodone and oxycodone-containing analgesic prescribing for the treatment of back pain among adults in emergency departments(EDs) in the USA from 2007 to ***:Data were gathered from the National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey(NHAMCS) from 2007 to *** study population included individuals of all ages presenting to USA *** NHAMCS reasons for visit and oxycodone drug ID codes were used to isolate patients with back *** main outcome was the proportion of oxycodone and oxycodone-containing analgesics prescribed for back pain in the EDs over the specified time ***:There was a relative decrease in the overall administration of oxycodone for back pain in the EDs by 62.3% from 2007(244,000 visits) to 2018(92,000 visits).The proportion of ED patients prescribed with oxycodone-containing analgesics for back pain increased among patients aged 45 years and older(from 43.8% to 57.6%),female patients(from 54.5% to 62.0%),black patients(from 22.5% to 30.4%),and Hispanic/Latino patients(from 9.4% to 19.6%).Oxycodone/acetaminophen was most prescribed and accounted for 90.2% of all oxycodone-containing analgesics in 2007,with a decrease to 68.5% in *** oxycodone was the second most prescribed medication,accounting for 6.1% in 2007 and 31.5% in ***:The overall number of oxycodone-containing analgesics decreased significantly from 2007 to ***,that number trended upward in 45-year-old and older,female,black,or Hispanic/Latino patients from 2007 to *** total amount of pure oxycodone increased significantly from 2007 to 2008.

Impact of solar reflectivity and infrared emissivity on the thermal performance of metal and concrete roofs in cloudy warmhumid climate

介孔活性炭作为一种具有高比表面积、大孔径和孔隙率体积、表面易于修饰、水热稳定性良好等特性的非硅基介孔功能材料,被广泛应用于催化、电化学、生物医药和吸附等诸多领域,成为国内外研究热点之一。本文综述了物理和化学活化法、硬模板法、软模板法、溶胶-凝胶法制备介孔活性炭材料,比较了各种方法的优缺点,并阐述了非金属掺杂、过渡金属掺杂、稀有金属掺杂和表面功能化氧化改性对介孔活性炭材料进行结构改性和功能化方面的进展。另外,简述了介孔活性炭材料中在重金属污染中的去除应用,最后对介孔活性炭材料新的发展方向进行了展望。

Spatiotemporal dynamics of the social structure of Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins(Sousa chinensis)in Xiamen waters from 2007 to 2019

As highly social animals,Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins(Sousa chinensis)exhibit community ***,our understanding of the external and internal factors influencing these dynamics,as well as their spatiotemporal variations,is still *** the present study,variations in the social structure of an endangered Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin population in Xiamen Bay,China,were monitored over two distinct periods(2007–2010 and 2017–2019)to analyze the effects of habitat utilization and the composition of individuals within the *** both periods,the population demonstrated a strikingly similar pattern of social differentiation,characterized by the division of individuals into two main clusters and one small ***,the two primary clusters occupied the eastern and western waters,respectively,although the core distribution area of the eastern cluster shifted further eastward between the two *** this distribution shift,the temporal stability of the social structure and inter-associations within the eastern cluster remained unaffected.A subset of 16individuals observed in both periods,comprising 51.6%and 43.2%of the population in each respective period,emerged as a foundational element of the social structure and may be responsible for sustaining social structure stability,especially during the 2007–2010 *** observations suggest that the composition of dominant individuals,an internal factor,had a more substantial influence on the formation of the social network than changes in habitat use,an external ***,the study proposes distinct conservation measures tailored to each of the two main clusters.

The United States Position on the Inclusive Framework's Two Pillars

The United States has not yet enacted,or even considered,any legislation designed to implement either of the two pillars in the OECD/G20's two-pillar global tax *** article discusses the reasons for this inaction and the prospects for any action by the United States in the *** reviewing the events that have brought us to the current state of affairs,the discussion considers the Biden Administration's proposals regarding Pillar One and Pillar Two,both internationally(i.e., in negotiations with other members of the Inclusive Framework) and domestically(i.e.,in the US political and legislative process).The article concludes that it should not be surprising that the US is going its own way in the multilateral tax process.

Antimony oxidation and adsorption by in-situ formed biogenic Mn oxide and Fe–Mn oxides

Antimony（Sb）, which can be toxic at relatively low concentrations, may co-exist with Mn（Ⅱ）and/or Fe（Ⅱ） in some groundwater and surface water bodies. Here we investigated the potential oxidation and adsorption pathways of Sb（Ⅲ and V） species in the presence of Mn（Ⅱ） and Mn-oxidizing bacteria, with or without Fe（Ⅱ）. Batch experiments were conducted to determine the oxidation and adsorption characteristics of Sb species in the presence of biogenic Mn oxides（BMOs）, which were formed in-situ via the oxidation of Mn（Ⅱ） by a Mn-oxidizing bacterium（Pseudomonas sp. QJX-1）. Results indicated that Sb（Ⅲ） ions could be oxidized to Sb（V） ions by BMO, but only Sb（V） originating from Sb（Ⅲ） oxidation was adsorbed effectively by BMO. Introduced Fe（Ⅱ） was chemically oxidized to Fe OOH, the precipitates of which mixed with BMO to form a new compound, biogenic Fe–Mn oxides（BFMO）. The BMO part of the BFMO mainly oxidized and the Fe OOH of the BFMO mainly adsorbed the Sb species. In aquatic solutions containing both As（Ⅲ） and Sb（Ⅲ）, the BFMO that formed in-situ preferentially oxidized Sb over As but adsorbed As more efficiently. Chemical analysis and reverse transcription real-time polymerase chain reaction revealed that the presence of Fe（Ⅱ）, As（Ⅲ） and Sb（Ⅲ） accelerated the oxidation of Mn（Ⅱ） but inhibited the activity of Mn-oxidizing bacteria. These results provide significant insights into the biogeochemical pathways of Sb, Mn（Ⅱ） in aquatic ecosystems, with or without Fe（Ⅱ）.

A cross-sectional study on the nurses’attitude towards rapid response system activation for clinically deteriorated patients

Background:Hospitals have reported that implementing rapid response system activation(RRS)activation has increased patient *** a result,there has been growing interest in identifying factors that lead to successful RRS *** introducing an automated RRS activation system has prompted nurses to be more vigilant about monitoring vital signs,it has not necessarily encouraged them to conduct thorough patient assessments to identify early signs of ***:The current study aimed to assess nurses’attitudes towards RRS activation for clinically deteriorated patients in the clinical units of King Abdul-Aziz ***:A descriptive cross-sectional research design was utilised in the study,and 144 nurses working in the medical and surgical units of King Abdul-Aziz Hospital were recruited to participate using a convenient non-probability sampling ***:The study’s findings reported that nurses have a positive attitude towards RRS benefits(Mean=3.70;SD=0.70).Their overall attitude towards RRS activation among clinically deteriorated patients is still low positive(Mean=2.71;SD=0.61).The nurses’attitudes towards RRS benefits significantly differ among nationalities and the clinical area/unit where they were assigned,with a P-value of 0.0194 and 0.000,*** towards RRS barriers significantly differ among nationality(P-value=0.0037),education level(P-value=0.0032),area of assignment(P-value=0.020),and whether they have a good understanding of abnormal observations(P-value=0.0122).Regarding the nurses’attitude towards management belief,the significant result is only with the clinical area/unit of assignment with a P-value of ***:The current study found a low positive attitude towards RRS activation among ward nurses,especially given that monitoring vital signs is critical to their *** may fear being perceived as clinically inept for redundant activations caused by poor quality,but their attitude t

Empowering Rice Farmers in Nueva Ecija, Philippines: A Strategic Approach to Boosting Income through Special Purpose Rice Production

Low income is the main problem of millions of farmers who are cultivating 4.81 million hectares in the Philippines. This problem is attributed to challenges specifically low yield, low quality of produce, and significant post-harvest losses, particularly in a resource-scarce setting. This study aimed to help increase the farmers’ income in selected towns of Nueva Ecija through the promotion and use of special purpose rice production technology. Twenty (20) farmer-cooperators in three towns of Nueva Ecija were selected to demonstrate the production technology covering a total area of 4.75 hectares during the dry season, and 3.3 hectares during the wet season, both in 2023. Extension modalities such as training, techno-demo establishment, information material and technical assistance provision, and market linkage were undertaken to enhance their knowledge, attitude, and skills on special rice production and enterprise. The study utilized the descriptive quantitative method wherein the data were gathered through surveys, specifically personal interviews. Results showed that 70% of the farmer-cooperators were male and 60% were living below the poverty threshold. The farmers were 53 years old on average and engaged in farming as their primary source of income. The average yield of special purpose rice particularly the CLS-2 variety was higher (6.46 MT/ha and 6.22 MT/ha during dry and wet seasons, respectively) than that of inbred or non-special rice. The income per hectare from special purpose rice production per hectare was Php 75,420.00, which is higher than that of regular rice at Php 29,389.00, giving a higher benefit of Php 46,031.00. The technology adopters and area planted increased (from 6 to 9 and from 1.4 hectares to 2.75 hectares, respectively) in Licab, Nueva Ecija. The opposite was true in Sto. Domingo and Guimba, Nueva Ecija where farmers were discouraged by the marketing issues that arose.
