Intrusion Detection System with Remote Signalling for Vehicles Using an Arduino Controller and Radio-Frequency Technology

Malicious activities or policy violations have been a concern for the past years. For example, many people have been victims of robbery on vehicles. A conceptual diagram of an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) [1] [2] for vehicles with remote signaling using an Arduino controller and radio-frequency technology is proposed in this paper. To address malicious activities on vehicles, two aspects are considered here, namely: notifier and detector. Firstly, an object-oriented C module that puts on and off a controller (installed inside the vehicle) and an anti-theft electronic editing that powered using an alternator and supported by a back-up battery are implemented. Secondly, a magnetic intrusion sensor, controlled by a proximity detector using radio-frequency technology, has been installed on each vehicle door. To enable IDS, a user needs to activate the monitoring system when leaving their vehicle. This is done using a remote system. In case the user does not activate the monitoring system while leaving the vehicle, a 5-meter-proximity detector will automatically lock the system and set off the monitoring system whenever the user is outside the detection zone. The detection zone is a 5-meter radius area centered at the controller. Here, monitoring consists of geolocating any intruders within the detection zone. This means, if any of the vehicle doors is opened while the system is still locked, the controller will activate the vehicle alarm for a few seconds, thereafter send an SMS notification to the owner. The system automatically unlocks as soon as the proximity detector is within the detection zone. The contribution of this paper, as compared to other similar work, is to reinforce the electronic implementation of IDS.

Hyper-chaos encryption using convolutional masking and model free unmasking

In this paper, during the masking process the encrypted message is convolved and embedded into a Qi hyper-chaotic system characterizing a high disorder degree. The masking scheme was tested using both Qi hyper-chaos and Lorenz chaos and indicated that Qi hyper-chaos based masking can resist attacks of the filtering and power spectrum analysis, while the Lorenz based scheme fails for high amplitude data. To unmask the message at the receiving end, two methods are proposed. In the first method, a model-free synchronizer, i.e. a multivariable higher-order differential feedback controller between the transmitter and receiver is employed to de-convolve the message embedded in the receiving signal. In the second method, no synchronization is required since the message is de-convolved using the information of the estimated derivative.

In this paper a hyper-chaotic cryptosystem is proposed based on two encryption processes: the image substitutionpermutation cryptography process followed by masking of the ciphered image. In the substitution-permutation cryptography process, the selective encryption using exclusive or operation is performed in the frequency domain, and the image is further encrypted in the spatial domain using the permutation encryption rule and keys generated by the Qi hyper-chaotic system. The ciphered image is changed into a time varying series which is fed into the hyper-chaotic transmitter as a driving signal. The unmasking process is proposed based on a model-free multivariable high order differential feedback controller used to synchronize the driven and the response systems of our scheme. Analysis and result have shown that the model-free controller offers a robust synchronization and the two encrypting processes for image increase the image security.

Cassava productivity is hampered by pests and diseases including cassava mosaic disease (CMD) and cassava brown streak disease (CBSD). The main objective of this study was to identify stable superior genotypes that combine disease resistance and high yield. Sixteen cassava genotypes were planted in a randomized complete block design with three replications for six planting seasons (years) at five sites in Tanzania. The genotypes were assessed using the additive main effect and multiplicative interaction (AMMI) analysis, and highly significant (P by-environment (G*E) interactions were observed for all traits studied. Percent sum of squares (SS) due to environment (12.66% - 85.23%) was the highest followed by G*E (14.12% - 39.56%) for CMD foliar symptoms, root weight and dry matter. Community-Based Pregnant Women Initiative to Support Emergency Obstetric Care in Kimpese Health Zone, Province of Kogo Central, the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Background: Maternal mortality remains high in low- and middle-income countries. Many maternal deaths occur within hospitals often due to a lack of access to basic emergency obstetric care (Emoc). Aim: The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a community-based pregnant women initiative to support emergency obstetric care in a Kimpese Health Zone (HZ). Setting: Kimpese Health Zone, Province of Central Kongo, in the South Western of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Results: Four hundred and thirty-five women were received for Emoc between January 2008 and June 2011, 75% were aged between 18 - 34 years old. Mechanical dystocia was the first cause of emergencies (34%). The diagnosis concordance between the transfers and the reasons for the transfer was weak and not statistically significant (Kappa = 0.350, p = 0.405). After the évaluation of the newborns, a favorable outcome was noted after the 10th day of de follow-up (95.4%). In multivariate analysis, the lack of ANC visits, the waiting time > 1 hour before the visit at the referral hospital, and assisted birth were the factors associated with the unfavorable obstetric outcomes. Conclusion: Improvement in maternal health involves better preparation of the community and the healthcare system for Emergency Obstetric Care. Research is needed for innovative and effective interventions in resource constraints settings.

Family Planning: Choosing Contraceptive Methods in Kongo Central Province, the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Background: In developing countries, access to modern contraceptive methods remains a concern, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Although satisfactory progress in increasing family planning use has been observed worldwide, demand and unmet need continue to grow. This study describes the different reasons that push women in rural and urban areas of Kongo Central province in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to choose one of the modern contraceptive methods. Methods: A cross-sectional, analytical study on the 705 clients recruited during the family planning mini-campaigns organized from January to March 2021 in 8 health zones of the Kongo Central Province in DRC. Community Contraceptive Methods Distributors (CCMD) collected the data, community health workers (CHW) trained in clinical providers’ community family planning service. The Pearson’s Chi2 test was used to compare the proportions of the methods chosen in the different study variables categories, and logistic regression was done to analyze the strength of association between the uses of long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC) with the study variables. Results: The mean age (SD) of the clients was 25.7 years. The median number of living children was 2 children and that of pregnancies carried per client was 3. Three (3) clients under the age of 20 out of 126 (2.4%) have 3 to 4 living children and one a up to 6 living children. Out of a total of 705 clients, 11.1% aged under 20 and 39.1% of clients aged 20 to 24 requested LARC. Divorced and unmarried women chose SAC and married and common-law women chose LARC more, compared to other categories of women. Unemployed women prefer SACs more than other professional categories, and women farmers prefer LARC. The level of education has no influence on the choice of method. Background and aim: Access to contraceptive methods remains low in the world in general and in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Data of these contraceptive methods in rural areas of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) remain poorly known. The aim is to identify the socio-demographic characteristics of clients associated with purchasing contraceptives methods via different distribution system in Kongo Central province. Methods: Cross-sectional study including data from mini Lelo Family Planning contraceptive method distribution campaigns organized in 11 health zones of Kongo Central province, from January to March 2020 by community-based distributors (DBC), learner DBCs (DBCa), graduated DBCs (DBCg) and clinical providers (CP). Results: The median age of clients was 25 years old. A quarter of them were men and almost half of the clients were in a conjugal relationship and 46.5% were single. Background: A disturbed glucose metabolism is quite common during pregnancy. It is due to the diabetogenic potential of pregnancy and responsible for many obstetric complications. The glycated hemoglobin is one of the markers used to depict these disorders. Higher concentrations of this marker would be associated with unfavorable results of pregnancy. Objective: To describe the profile of HbA1c in non-diabetic preeclamptic pregnant women and to establish the association between the values of this marker and the maternal and fetal complications. Materials and Method: This is a case-control study of 142 pregnant women in their second and third trimester. They were followed in the maternity hospitals of University Clinics and the General Reference Hospital in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo between May and October 2019. The sampling of preeclamptic pregnant women was exhaustive. Controls were healthy pregnant women carrying pregnancies of the same type and of the same gestational age as the cases. Ultimately, 71 were preeclamptic and 71 healthy (controls). HbA1c was determined by immunoturbidimetry. Results: A total of 142 pregnant women took part in this study consisting of 71 preeclamptic women (cases) and 71 healthy pregnant women (controls). The average age of these pregnant women was 28.8 ± 6.8 (28.2 ± 6.8 years vs 29.5 ± 6.8 years p = 0.559), with an average parity of 2.3 ± 1.5 (2.2 ± 1.7 vs 2.4 ± 1.2, p = 0.005). The majority were carriers of monofoetal pregnancy. Higher HbA1c values were observed in the preeclamptic pregnant women compared to the controls (5.7 ± 1.3% vs 4.8 ± 0.7%, p 0.001).
