The recent emergence of thin-film lithium niobate(TFLN)has extended the landscape of integrated *** has been enabled by the commercialization of TFLN wafers and advanced nanofabrication of TFLN such as high-quality dry ***,fabrication imperfections still limit the propagation loss to a few dB/m,restricting the impact of this ***,we demonstrate TFLN microresonators with a record-high intrinsic quality(Q)factor of twenty-nine million,corresponding to an ultra-low propagation loss of 1.3 dB/*** present spectral analysis and the statistical distribution of Q factors across different resonator *** work pushes the fabrication limits of TFLN photonics to achieve a Q factor within 1 order of magnitude of the material limit.

Meningioma in vivo research is hampered by the difficulty of establishing an easy and reproducible orthotopic model able to mimic the characteristics of a human meningioma. Moreover, leptomeningeal dissemination and high mortality are often associated with such orthotopical models, making them useless for clinical translation studies. An optimized method for inducing meningiomas in nude mice at two different sites is described in this paper and the high reproducibility and low mortality of the models are demonstrated. Skull base meningiomas were induced in the auditory meatus and convexity meningiomas were induced on the brain surface of 23 and 24 nude mice, respectively. Both models led to the development of a mass easily observable by imaging methods. Dynamic contrast enhanced MRI was used as a tool to monitor and characterize the pathology onset and progression. At the end of the study, histology was performed to confirm the neoplastic origin of the diseased mass.

The treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)relies on liver resection,which is,however,burdened by a high rate of recurrence after surgery,up to 60%at 5 *** pre-operative tools are currently available to assess the recurrence risk tailored to every single *** liquid biopsy has shown interesting results in diagnosis,prognosis and treatment allocation strategies in other types of cancers,since its ability to identify circulating tumor cells(CTCs)derived from the primary *** cells were advocated to be responsible for the majority of cases of recurrence and cancer-related deaths for *** fact,after being modified by the epithelial-mesenchymal transition,CTCs circulate as“seeds”in peripheral blood,then reach the target organ as dormant cells which could be subsequently“awakened”and activated,and then initiate *** presence may justify the disagreement registered in terms of efficacy of anatomic vs non-anatomic resections,particularly in the case of microvascular invasion,which has been recently pointed as a histological sign of the spread of those ***,their presence,also in the early stages,may justify the recurrence event also in the contest of liver *** the mechanism behind the tumor progression may allow improving the treatment selection according to the biological patient-based ***,it may drive the development of novel biological tailored tests which could address a specific patient to neoadjuvant or adjuvant strategies,and in perspective,it could also become a new method to allocate organs for transplantation,according to the risk of relapse after liver *** present paper will describe the most recent evidence on the role of CTCs in determining the relapse of HCC,highlighting their potential clinical implication as novel tumor behavior biomarkers able to influence the surgical choice.

Aim:The primary aim of this investigation into the correlation between prosthetic breast reconstruction,antibiotic prophylaxis and surgical drains was to determine whether the short-term prophylaxis recommended in the current guidelines is in fact able to sterilize the peri-prosthetic pocket in patients undergoing prosthetic breast reconstruction via tissue expansion,permanent implant placement,or Becker implants,as well as augmentation to correct ***:A total of 96 women who had undergone prosthetic breast reconstruction surgery were *** were recruited from the Plastic Surgery Clinic,Gemona,and the Surgery Clinic,Udine,both affiliated with the Udine'Santa Maria della Misericordia'University Hospital between May 2013 and May *** patients were administered the recommended short-term antibiotic prophylaxis,i.e.2 g cephazolin(plus 1 g eventually given after 3.5 h of surgery)30 min before *** pertaining to each patient were kept in a specific study ***:Samples of peri-prosthetic drainage fluid were taken from 92.5%of the recipients of breast reconstruction/implant *** 2.3%of the samples analyzed were found to be positive for microbial ***:The results of this preliminary study are encouraging,demonstrating that the guidelines regarding short-term antibiotic prophylaxis are indeed effective.
