Quantitative investigation on collapse margin of steel high-rise buildings subjected to extremely severe earthquakes

The anelastic deformation behavior of Pd_(20)Pt_(20)Cu_(20)Ni_(20)P_(20) high-entropy metallic glass was probed by monitoring the stress relaxation and recovery processes. The stress relaxation under consecutive strain steps can be described by the Kohlrausch-Williams-Watts(KWW) function. In addition, considering a hierarchy of relaxation processes related to the structural heterogeneity, a constitutive model is proposed in order to describe the whole process of stress relaxation and determine the contribution of different time scales. Moreover, a crossover from stochastic activation to percolation of flow defects with the ultimate strain can be observed during stress relaxation process. The anelastic recovery process after a strain step is studied as a function of the initial strain level and characterized by means of a direct spectrum analysis. The peaks in the recovery time-spectra revealed the evolution of flow defects in Pd_(20)Pt_(20)Cu_(20)Ni_(20)P_(20) high-entropy metallic glass. The understanding of the atomic free-volume zones effect and the anelastic deformation provides important insight into how atomic structural features affect the deformation behavior of high-entropy metallic glasses, and may provide a new avenue into the improvement of their mechanical properties.

A novel carbonaceous adsorbent for heavy metal removal was prepared from raw coal by one-step simple sulfur impregnation using K2S. Raw coal was mixed with K2S powder and then heated at 800℃ for 30 min in nitrogen to produce K2S char. The sulfur content and form in K2S char were determined, and the ability of K2S char to adsorb Zn^2＋, Cd^2＋ and Pb^2＋ was examined. The K2S impregnation was effective at impregnating sulfur into coal, especially in the form of elemental, thiophenic and sulfatic sulfur. The sulfur content of K2S char was higher than those of raw coal and pyrolysis char. The Zn^2＋ removal in 2.4 mmol/L of Zn^2＋ solution by K2S char was higher than raw coal with the removal rate of 100%. K2S char adsorbed Pb^2＋ and Cd^2＋ in 24 mmol/L of Pb^2＋ and Cd^2＋ solution with the removal rate of 97% and 35%, respectively. The elution extents of adsorbed Pb^2＋ and Cd^2＋ were zero in distilled water and 27% in 0.1 mol/L HCl solution. These results indicated that an effective adsorbent for heavy metal ions was prepared from coal using K2S sulfur impregnation, and that the adsorbed metals were strongly retained in K2S char.

A new combined desulfarizatinn/denitraticon (DeSOx/DeNOx) procees was teeted in this study. The procees uses the so-called powder-partlcle fluidized bed (PPFB) as the major reactor in which a coarse DeNOx catalyst, several hundrsd micrometers in size, is fluidized by flue gas as the fluidization medium particles while a contlnuogsly supplied fine DeSOx sorbent, several to tens of micrometers in dianteter, is entrained with the flue gas. Ammonin for NOx reduction is fed to the bottom of the bed, thus, SOx and NOx are simultaneously removed in the single *** adopting a model gas, SO2-NO-HaO-N2-air, to simulate actual flue gas in a laboratory-scale PPFB, simultaneous SO2 and NO removals were explored with respect to various gas components of flue gas. It was found that the vaxlations of SO2 removal with concentrations (fractions) of oxygen, water vapor, SO2 and NO in flue gas are little affected by the simultaneous NOx reduction. However,the dependencles of NO removal upon such gas components are clveely related to the inter-actions between DeSOx sorbent and DeNOx catalyst.

Dear Editor,Collecting duct carcinoma(CDC)or Bellini carcinoma originates in the distal collecting *** is a markedly aggressive subtype of renal cell carcinoma and accounts for less than 1%of all renal cell carcinomas[1].We described a patient with CDC and psoriasis,who showed complete response(CR)after being treated with combination therapy of nivolumab and ipilimumab(NI).The study was conducted in accordance with and approved by the Ethics Committee of Yamagata University Faculty of Medicine(approval no.2019-35).The need for patient consent was waived by the same institutional review board;all the patients provided written informed consents.

To date, many studies related to robots have been performed around the world. Many of these studies have assumed operation at locations where entry is difficult, such as disaster sites, and have focused on various terrestrial robots, such as snake-like, humanoid, spider-type, and wheeled units. Another area of active research in recent years has been aerial robots with small helicopters for operation indoors and outdoors. However,less research has been performed on robots that operate both on the ground and in the air. Accordingly, in this paper, we propose a hybrid aerial/terrestrial robot system. The proposed robot system was developed by equipping a quadcopter with a mechanism for ground movement. It does not use power dedicated to ground movement, and instead uses the flight mechanism of the quadcopter to achieve ground movement as well. Furthermore, we addressed the issue of obstacle avoidance as part of studies on autonomous control. Thus, we found that autonomous control of ground movement and flight was possible for the hybrid aerial/terrestrial robot system, as was autonomous obstacle avoidance by flight when an obstacle appeared during ground movement.

Fabrication of ZrC/ZrB₂/C Composites Having High Mechanical Properties at Elevated Temperatures

Ultra-high temperature ceramics (UHTCs) are most recently getting much attention for structural parts of hypersonic missiles with their cruising speed of more than Mach 5. Most of the UHTCs are poor sinterability carbides, nitrides, and borides. Therefore, they have been studied and developed for a long time. However, there are still many problems to solve. In this paper, based on the solid-state reaction presented as an equation of (x + y)·ZrC + 2·y·B → x·ZrC + y·ZrB2 + y·C, three-phase ZrC/ZrB2/C composites have been fabricated from ZrC and amorphous B powders using pulsed electric-current pressure sintering at 1373 to 2173 K for 6.0 × 102 s under 50 MPa in a vacuum. ZrC/ZrB2/C = 30/70/C~70/30/C vol% composites with the relative densities Dr of 96.6 to 98.7% were obtained at 2073 K. The 60/40/C vol% composite revealed high bending strength σb (554 MPa), Vickers hardness Hv (19.2 GPa) and moderate fracture toughness KIC (5.25 MPa·m1/2) at room temperature. Furthermore, all composites showed elastic deformation up to 1873 K and revealed σb more than 600 MPa at this temperature, in addition, some composites showed higher σb than 900 MPa at the same temperature. These high mechanical behaviors are discussed with those of the simple binary ZrC/ZrB2 composites which were fabricated under the same conditions except for their starting materials. The best mechanical properties of binary composites were σb (474 MPa), Hv (18.5 GPa), and KIC (4.45 MPa·m1/2) at room temperature, and σb of 400 - 700 MPa at 1873 K. Overall, three-phase composites, nevertheless including soft carbon, have higher mechanical properties than the binary composites.
