A sulfur–microporous carbon composite positive electrode for lithium/sulfur and silicon/sulfur rechargeble batteries

Sulfur is an advantageous material as a promising next-generation positive electrode material for high-energy lithium batteries due to a high theoretical capacity of 1672 m A h g 1although its discharge potential is somewhat modest:ca.2 V vs Li/***,a sulfur positive electrode has some crucial problems for practical use,which are mainly attributed to the dissolution of its intermediate products in charge–discharge *** order to resolve the dissolution problem of lithium polysulfide,we attempted to synthesize a sulfur–microporous activated carbon(AC) composite positive ***,we have systematically researched the battery performance of sulfur–microporous AC positive electrode with variations of electrolytes as well as negative electrodes,and found its promising positive electrode performance for a nextgeneration rechargeable battery.

Distal posterior inferior cerebellar artery aneurysm with cerebellar arteriovenous malformation treated by open surgery: a case report

Background:The detection of a feeder aneurysm and an arteriovenous malformation(AVM)is relatively rare for the intracranial *** distal posterior inferior cerebellar artery aneurysm(DPICAAn)is reported to coexist or relate with the cerebellar *** previous reports about the treatment of a DPICAAn and a cerebellar AVM,endovascular embolization with the sacrifice of the posterior inferior cerebellar artery(PICA)has often been ***,there have been few reports of simultaneous open surgery for coexistent cases of DPICAAn and cerebellar *** description:A 67-year-old male presented with a *** detected a right DPICAAn in the telovelotonsillar segment and a cerebellar AVM primarily fed by the left superior cerebellar artery(SCA).In addition,the nidus was located medially in the left upper cerebellar *** resonance imaging raised suspicions of asymptomatic past hemorrhage in the cerebellar *** left PICA was agenesis,and the right PICA perfused the bilateral inferior cerebellar hemispheres;thus,the right PICA could not be *** selected open surgery to prevent any hemorrhagic event from the DPICAAn and the cerebellar *** cerebellar AVM was completely removed,and the DPICAAn was successfully clipped in a single-session open ***:Open surgery can be considered for DPICAAn and cerebellar *** anatomical location of the DPICAAn and AVM contributed to the success of a single-session open surgery.

Improving grain quality is a primary objective in contemporary rice *** modern rice breeding has developed two different types of rice,eating and sake-brewing rice,with different grain characteristics,indicating the selection of variant gene alleles during the breeding *** the critical importance of promptly and efficiently identifying genes selected in past breeding for future molecular breeding,we conducted genome scans for divergence,genome-wide association studies,and map-based ***,we successfully identified two genes,OsMnS and OsWOX9D,both contributing to rice grain *** encodes a mannan synthase that increases the white core frequency in the endosperm,a desirable trait for sake brewing but decreases the grain appearance ***9D encodes a grass-specific homeobox-containing transcription factor,which enhances grain width for better sake ***,haplotype analysis revealed that their defective alleles were selected in East Asia,but not Europe,during modern *** addition,our analyses indicate that a reduction in grain mannan content during African rice domestication may also be caused a defective OsMnS allele due to breeding *** study not only reveals the delicate balance between grain appearance quality and nutrition in rice but also provides a new strategy for isolating causal genes underlying complex traits,based on the concept of“breeding-assisted genomics”in plants.

Effects of docosahexaenoic acid or arachidonic acid supplementation on gene expression and contractile force of rat cardiomyocytes in primary culture

While fatty acids play essential roles in the physiology of the myocardium,conventional culture media contain little *** previously revealed that rat neonatal myocardium mainly contains docosahexaenoic(DHA),linoleic(LA),and arachidonic(AA)acids as polyunsaturated fatty acids(PUFAs),and these contents in cultured cardiomyocytes derived from fetal rats were markedly lower than those in the neonatal *** this study,we first assessed the effects of supplementation of DHA,LA,or AA on the fatty acid contents and the percentage change of contractile area in primarily cultured rat *** on this assessment,we then evaluated the effects of DHA or AA supplementation on mRNA expression and further directly measured the contractile force of cardiomyocytes with the *** study revealed that percentage change of contractile area was maximized under 20μM DHA or 50μM AA supplementation while LA supplementation did not affect this contraction index,and that a widespread upregulation tendency of the mRNA expression related to differentiation,maturity,fatty acid metabolism,and cell adhesion was seen in the cultured cardiomyocytes with supplementation of DHA or *** particular,upregulation of the gene expression of cellular adhesion molecules connexin43 and N-cadherin were remarkable,whereas the effects on differentiation and maturation were less ***,the increase of the percentage change of the contractile area of cardiomyocyte clusters in culture dishes with the supplementations was significant,whereas the enhancement of the contractile force was *** results suggest that supplementation of DHA or AA to the fetal cardiomyocyte culture may play effective roles in preventing the de-differentiation of the cardiomyocytes in culture and that the enhancement of the contractile performance may be mainly attributed to the improvement of intercellular connection.

Dear Editor,Several Phase 3 trials have demonstrated the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitor(ICI)-based combination therapies in the treatment of advanced clear cell renal cell carcinoma(RCC)[1-5].However,there is still no well-defined adequate treatment for patients who experience disease progression after initial ICI-based combination therapy.
