Photocatalysis is one of the most promising processes for treating air and water *** civil engineering materials for environmental depollution by photocatalysis have already been synthesized by incorporating TiO_(2) or ZnO nanoparticles in *** method suffers from two flaws:first,most of the NPs are incorporated into the cement and useless for photocatalysis;second,rain and wind could spread the potentially carcinogenic nanoparticles from the cement surface into ***,we propose the efficient synthesis of nontoxic and biocompatible ZnO nanostructures solely onto the surface of commercially available concrete and tiling pavements by a low-cost and lowtemperature hydrothermal *** samples exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activity for degrading organic dyes in aqueous media,and dye molecules are commonly used in the pharmaceutical,food,and textile *** studies showed no loss of efficiency after four photocatalysis *** supported structures,which are easy to implement onto the varying surfaces of commercially available materials,are promising for integration into civil engineering surfaces for environmental depollution in our daily life.

This paper reports fast and efficient chemical decontamination of water within a tree-branched centimeter-scale microfluidic *** microreactor integrates Zinc oxide nanowires(ZnO NWs)in situ grown acting as an efficient photocatalytic nanomaterial *** growth of ZnO NWs within the microfluidic chamber brings this photocatalytic medium at the very close vicinity of the water flow path,hence minimizing the required interaction time to produce efficient purification *** demonstrate a degradation efficiency of 95%in o5 s of residence time in one-pass *** to our estimates,it becomes attainable using microfluidic reactors to produce decontamination of merely 1 l of water per day,typical of the human daily drinking water *** conduct our experiments,we have chosen a laboratory-scale case study as a seed for addressing the health concern of water contamination by volatile organic compounds(VOCs),which remain difficult to remove using alternative decontamination techniques,especially those involving water *** contaminated water sample contains mixture of five pollutants:Benzene;Toluene;Ethylbenzene;m–p Xylenes;and o-Xylene(BTEX)diluted in water at 10 *** of *** was analytically monitored in a selective manner until it falls below 1 *** each of the five pollutants,corresponding to the maximum contaminant level(MCL)established by the US Environmental Protection Agency(EPA).We also report on a preliminary study,investigating the nature of the chemical by-products after the photocatalytic VOCs degradation process.

There is a need to develop interventions to slow or reverse the degeneration of dopamine neurons in Parkinson’s disease after *** that preclinical and clinical studies suggest benefits of dietary n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids,such as docosahexaenoic acid,and exercise in Parkinson’s disease,we investigated whether both could synergistically interact to induce recovery of the dopaminergic ***,mice received a unilateral stereotactic injection of 6-hydroxydopamine into the striatum to establish an animal model of nigrostriatal *** weeks after lesion,animals were fed a docosahexaenoic acid-enriched or a control diet for the next 8 *** this period,the animals had access to a running wheel,which they could use or *** acid treatment,voluntary exercise,or the combination of both had no effect on(i)distance traveled in the open field test,(ii)the percentage of contraversive rotations in the apomorphine-induction test or(iii)the number of tyrosine-hydroxylase-positive cells in the substantia nigra pars ***,the docosahexaenoic acid diet increased the number of tyrosine-hydroxylase-positive terminals and induced a rise in dopamine concentrations in the lesioned *** to docosahexaenoic acid treatment or exercise alone,the combination of docosahexaenoic acid and exercise(i)improved forelimb balance in the stepping test,(ii)decreased the striatal DOPAC/dopamine ratio and(iii)led to increased dopamine transporter levels in the lesioned *** present results suggest that the combination of exercise and docosahexaenoic acid may act synergistically in the striatum of mice with a unilateral lesion of the dopaminergic system and provide support for clinical trials combining nutrition and physical exercise in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

The Internet of Things(IoT)has revolutionized our world today by providing greater levels of accessibility,connectivity and ease to our everyday *** enables massive amounts of data to be traversed across multiple heterogeneous devices that are all *** phenomenon makes IoT networks vulnerable to various network attacks and *** an Intrusion Detection System(IDS)for IoT networks is challenging as they enable a massive amount of data to be aggregated,which is difficult to handle and analyze in real time mainly because of the heterogeneous nature of IoT *** inefficient,traditional IDS approach accentuates the need to develop advanced IDS techniques by employing Machine or Deep *** paper presents a deep ensemble-based IDS using Lambda architecture by following a multi-pronged classification *** classification uses Long Short Term Memory(LSTM)to differentiate between malicious and benign traffic,while the multi-class classifier uses an ensemble of LSTM,Convolutional Neural Network and Artificial Neural Network classifiers to detect the type of *** model training is performed in the batch layer,while real-time evaluation is carried out through model inferences in the speed layer of the Lambda *** proposed approach gives high accuracy of over 99.93%and saves useful processing time due to the multi-pronged classification strategy and using the lambda architecture.

The theory of ecological speciation suggests that assortative mating evolves most easily when mating preferences aredirectly linked to ecological traits that are subject to divergent selection. Sensory adaptation can play a major role in this process,because selective mating is often mediated by sexual signals: bright colours, complex song, pheromone blends and so on. Whendivergent sensory adaptation affects the perception of such signals, mating patterns may change as an immediate ***, mating preferences can diverge as a result of indirect effects: assortative mating may be promoted by selectionagainst intermediate phenotypes that are maladapted to their (sensory) environment. For Lake Victoria cichlids, the visual environmentconstitutes an important selective force that is heterogeneous across geographical and water depth gradients. We investigatethe direct and indirect effects of this heterogeneity on the evolution of female preferences for alternative male nuptial colours(red and blue) in the genus Pundamilia. Here, we review the current evidence for divergent sensory drive in this system, extractgeneral principles, and discuss future perspectives [Current Zoology 56 (3): 285-299, 2010].

The implementation of molecular profiling technologies in oncology deepens our knowledge for the molecular landscapes of cancer diagnoses, identifying aberrations that could be linked with specific therapeutic vulnerabilities. In particular, there is an increasing list of molecularly targeted anticancer agents undergoing clinical development that aim to block specific molecular aberrations. This leads to a paradigm shift, with an increasing list of specific aberrations dictating the treatment of patients with cancer. This paradigm shift impacts the field of clinical trials, since the classical approach of having clinico-pathological disease characteristics dictating the patients' enrolment in oncology trials shifts towards the implementation of molecular profiling as prescreening step. In order to facilitate the successful clinical development of these new anticancer drugs within specific molecular niches of cancer diagnoses, there have been developed new, innovative trial designs that could be classified as follows: i)longitudinal cohort studies that implement(or not) "nested" downstream trials, 2) studies that assess the clinical utility of molecular profiling, 3) "master" protocol trials, iv) "basket" trials, v) trials following an adaptive design. In the present article, we review these innovative study designs, providing representative examples from each category and we discuss the challenges that still need to be addressed in this era of new generation oncology trials implementing molecular profiling. Emphasis is put on the field of breast cancer clinical trials.

The authors consider a simple transport equation in one-dimensional space and the linearized shallow water equations in two-dimensional space, and describe and implement a multilevel finite-volume discretization in the context of the utilization of the incremental unknowns. The numerical stability of the method is proved in both cases.

Carboxylesterases are enzymes widely distributed within living organisms. In insects, they have been mainly involved in dietary metabolism and detoxification function. Interestingly, several members of this family called carboxylesterase-like ad- hesion molecules （CLAMs） have lost their catalytic properties and are mainly involved in neuro/developmental functions. CLAMs include gliotactins, neurotactins, glutactins, and neuroligins. The latter have for binding partner the neurexin. In insects, the function of these proteins has been mainly studied in Drosophila central nervous system or neuro- muscular junction. Some studies suggested a role of neuroligins and neurexin in sensory processing but CLAM expression within sensory systems has not been investigated. Here, we reported the identification of 5 putative CLAMs expressed in the olfactory system of the model pest insect Spodoptera littoralis. One neuroligin, Slnlg4-yll and its putative binding partner neurexin Slnrxl were the most expressed in the antennae and were surprisingly associated with olfactory sensilla. In addition, both transcripts were upregulated in male antennae after mating, known to modulate the sensitivity of the peripheral olfactory system in S. littoralis, suggesting that these molecules could be involved in sensory plasticity.
