We pr.pose a novel technique to extr.ct featur.s fr.m a r.nge image and use them to pr.duce a 3D pen-and-ink style por.r.it similar.to a tr.ditional ar.istic dr.wing. Unlike most pr.vious template-based, component-based or.example-based face sketching methods, which wor. fr.m a fr.ntal photogr.ph as input, our.system uses a r.nge image as input. Our.method r.ns in r.al-time for.models of moder.te complexity, allowing the pose and dr.wing style to be modified inter.ctively. Por.r.it dr.wing in our.system makes use of occluding contour. and suggestive contour. as the most impor.ant shape cues. However. cur.ent 3D featur. line detection methods r.quir. a smooth mesh and cannot be r.liably applied dir.ctly to noisy r.nge images. We thus pr.sent an impr.ved silhouette line detection algor.thm. Featur. edges r.lated to the significant par.s of a face ar. extr.cted fr.m the r.nge image, connected, and smoothed, allowing us to constr.ct chains of line paths which can then be r.nder.d as desir.d. We also incor.or.te var.ous por.r.it-dr.wing pr.nciples to pr.vide sever.l simple yet effective non- photor.alistic por.r.it r.nder.r. such as a pen-and-ink shader. a hatch shader.and a sketch shader. These ar. able to gener.te var.ous life-like impr.ssions in differ.nt styles fr.m a user.chosen viewpoint. To obtain satisfactor. r.sults, we r.fine r.nder.d output by smoothing changes in line thickness and opacity. We ar. car.ful to pr.vide appr.pr.ate visual cues to enhance the viewer.s compr.hension of the human face. Our.exper.mental r.sults demonstr.te the r.bustness and effectiveness of our.appr.ach, and fur.her.suggest that our.appr.ach can be extended to other.3D geometr.c objects.

The Disc Acceler.tion e Xper.ment(DAX)is one of the most r.cent exper.mental methods of per.or.ance char.cter.zation of new ener.etic mater.als.A cylindr.cal explosive char.e acceler.tes a thin metallic disc and its velocity is measur.d continuously using photonic Doppler.*** detonation velocity is measur.d *** DAX test can be used to obtain the Chapman-Jouguet(CJ)detonation pr.ssur. and to descr.be detonation pr.ducts expansion using r.duced amount of explosive.A ser.es of DAX tests was per.or.ed at var.ous char.e diameter. and disc thicknesses with Semtex 1 A plastic bonded explosive and sensitized *** DAX-like evaluation was also applied to pr.viously measur.d data of Semtex 1A and A-IX-1 *** optimum disc thickness is deter.ined by the disc to explosive mass r.tio of *** r.peatability of the Semtex 1 A detonation pr.ssur. r.sults is about four.times lower.compar.d to the pr.ssed and liquid explosives.

An aver.ged var.ant of the well-known L1 scheme is pr.ved to be O(N^(-2)) conver.ent for.IVPs on suitably gr.ded meshes with N points, ther.by impr.ving the O(N^(-(2-α))) conver.ence r.te of the standar. L1 scheme. The analysis r.lies on a delicate decomposition of the tempor.l tr.ncation er.or.that yields a shar. dependence of the or.er.of conver.ence on the degr.e of mesh gr.ding used. This aver.ged L1 scheme can be combined with a finite differ.nce or.piecewise linear.finite element discr.tization in space for.IBVPs, and under.a r.str.ction on the tempor.l mesh width, one gets again O(N^(-2)) conver.ence in time, together.with O(h^(2)) conver.ence in space,wher. h is the spatial mesh width. Numer.cal exper.ments suppor. our.r.sults.
